  1. Good luck in NF I'll probably be heading up that way soon if I don"t luck out in Maine.
  2. I know it sucks and after awhile you could probably just do a Canada bear trip for all the chances we buy. Good luck.
  3. I guess you're right about Maine as I'm still waiting. lol Good luck to your buds in NH
  4. Anyone else waiting for the Maine Moose Lottery on the 18th? I have some preference points and agreed to accept any tag. Hope it helps. Well good luck to all in the lottery.
  5. Bob, I belong to Whitney Point and Oxford. Both are great and are into archery & rifle, but not exactly near Smyrna. Don;t know if there are any closer. Maybe check at Mayhoods on Rte. 12 in Norwich. He has a bow range. I think he has a gun range but don't think it's public.
  6. It was formerly known as Osterhaut's Landscaping. His office is in Oneonta.
  7. Well, since I got some views I thought I would update you guys. I had Onontio Landscaping come in and find and repair the culvert with a more professional entrance with brush gaurd and it was torture tested and passed with a major storm afterward. Warren and his men also graded and rebuilt some damaged Press. treated walls and poured some cement under the fireplace foundation the stabilize. He and his men are pros the price didn't creep up even though he had some problems on the job.
  8. I had a neighbor who used a horse trailer as a blind 30 years ago in Delaware county but on private land. I don't think you're allowed to leave something like this overnight on state land, if it's legal in the first place. I would also worry about someone stealing it as it doesn"t sound cheap.
  9. I have to tell you if you are serious about moving do it now. I doubt your seven year old will be agreeable in five years. Just finishing grade school and looking to start high school with friends they have had all their life. Second grade is easy to transfer into a new school. JMHO Good Luck.
  10. Good luck and safe hunting.
  11. I belong to the NRA to protect the second ammendment and two hunting clubs with land so I have more choices of private land to hunt. Both clubs also have ranges.
  12. I have only seen tracks once or twice. We have a resident turkey flock of about a dozen birds and see deer right up to gun season then they go nocturnal for the most part. We haven't found any kills other than next to the road so I don't think they are too many by us.
  13. My brother owns land on the other side and it's good for both deer and turkey. There is quite a bit of state land there besides Beaver Meadow there is Pharasalia and others. I think you will be happy especialy if you put a food plot in. As a bonus my brother has never had a problem with trespassers like I do further down.
  14. I haven't used state land for a while but I remember SL near Windham with lean-tos where hunting was allowed. I think there is a list of places in the regs book. Not sure if it has changed but I believe North Lake and South Lake allowed camping as well as Ber Spring Mtn. which I believe is currently closed but I hope will reopen soon. Fahrenstock in Putnam allows bow hunting or it used to. I know there is a campground there you just have to check if it's open. BTW I know several parks furthe west offer cabin rentals and allow hunting. Search NYstate park cabin rentals and see which ones allow hunting. If not the same park I am sure there will be SL nearby. I have seen campsites on islands in Indian lake but the boat rental was a private firm not state but I am pretty sure there are others closer. I know they rent boats right in Harriman and have camping as well as cabins. I didn't like their campsites now they were too crowded. I got spoiled using the Boy Scout campground when it was open to all. Check out the private campgrounds in and around Roscoe. No canoes but you won't find nicer fishing and the campgrounds were nice, you fish world famous streams right in the campground and have plenty of state access points nearby. Good luck.
  15. It is slightly above and I have electric. Any suggestions appreciated.
  16. Need help using a spring for water source. Camp had a system but is not working and looked marginal to start with. Last owner apparently formed a collection box out of racks and stuck a pipe in. He had a complicated system of storage tank and pressure tank with pump at the camp. Unfortunately it's not working now and wanted to try to redo with some kind of spring house to protect water from bugs, etc getting in. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I do know to have the water tested but the last guy was using it so I think it will test OK. Even if it's not drinkable I can still use it for toilets and showering and bring in drinking water until I can drill a well.
  17. While I was worried about a minor erosion problem on one side of my new camp the rain took out half my driveway on the other side. I was up here two weeks ago and all was well, came up this past weekend to try to channel the run off away from my camp and the damn culvert got plugged and cut a channel through my parking and u-turn area. It is also undermining my deck posts. So my new friend the landscpper is coming to clean out the culvert and my wallet.lol No seriously I didn't need that quad. He is doing alot of work but I can't let it wash away. Hopefully I can get some turkey hunting in.
  18. If you go to Orange county I like Davis in Goshen. Nice 100 yd indoor with electric target return. If you shoot pistol I like Master Class in Monroe. They have loaner guns so you can try a Kimber. Careful you will want to buy one. This is a shorter range but both places have great people running them. Now I want to go to the range. Think I'll hit one on my way to Camp tomorrow.
  19. I find it funny for phrases like common sense and middle ground top be used when the antis are neither. In NYC a person with a pistol permit not for business or work must carry his weapon in a locked box to the range or hunting grounds. I know a guy with a premise permit only for self defense in the home and he has to request permission to go to the range and practice one day a year carried in the lock box. And the antis still aren't happy. Go ahead try to be reasonable.
