Forget Maine. Let's plan that bear hunt for NJ.
-
No wonder I didn't see any deer. You shot them all! lol Congrats to you and your family.

Isn't it better that we can use either tag or both during either season? What if you see a nice buck and you're MLing? What if you took a doe with bow and had to burn an either sex tag? I like it better this way that we have more choices.

Opinion on Shotgun for DEER/TURKEY/WATERFOWL
hunter replied to Rev Ev's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I picked up that 870 combo a few years ago in 20 ga and love it. Besides being a great slug gun and small game barrel. I think mine is 26" with choice of chokes but if I needed a longer or shorter barrel I could buy one. -
Paula, I think you can still add the ML tag.

Your camp looks awesome, but in this economy it might be difficult to get the true value. If you can afford to wait list it and don't take less than it's worth. Good luck.
-
I hate to say this but I think you need new hunting friends and locations. It's very hard when these people are family. Good luck.

Congrats I'd say that investment is paying off.

Dave, I think the law is one and a half ounces of scent. I assume that means each set. But by all means check the DEC site to be sure. Of course in Maine you are allowed to bait even if you're self guided. I think we need a "Hunting NY.com" bear hunt to Maine. Maybe we can get a group rate.

I have heard some bad reports on guides who take big money and give you a boat ride and a camping trip for your money. If you want to go on your own like in Moose River Rec Area fine cause you won't be out a thosand but if you are going to pay I would suggest finding a good guide in Maine or Canada. Even then check references. I went on a bear hunt in Shining Tree Ontario and the guide was rather relaxed about helping his hunters. Two guys shot a 150# and a 200# so he acted like the rest of us were at fault for not taking bears. There was about ten other hunters. BTW I gave you the Town cause he's changed the name at least once. It might be late for an ADK hunt maybe try SZ. Check the DEC web site for top producing counties near you. Plan on using food scent attractants but check the regs, I think you can only use 1.5 ounces per sitting. I think you can take more but only 1.5 each trip into the bush. But please double check with DEC. Good Luck.

Hey Bayrat, my bro got a ten on Sun. and his buddy got a doe on Mon in 7S. I hear they are up and moving. I have some land in 7P near Sidney that I was going to hunt but now I'm thinking of joining the party in 7s. Good luck.

Congrats to him.

I wasn't able to go up this week but my brother John got his first deer and it's a ten point buck. He was hunting private land in 7S. They had four doe permits and were just looking for meat but he got blessed. Hope to get pics later. Good luck to all. Safe hunting.

Bellmorekennels and FJM beagles 11/09 Rabbit hunt!!

Bellmore, my daughter recently got a male beagle pup when she was in Pa. She passed a breeder and couldn't resist. Now I have been told I can take it hunting. I wanted to know what kind of training should I give the dog and how soon should I start? I think the pup is about 10-12 weeks old now. Do you do this type of thing? Is this season too soon to take out? Thanks for any help you can give me. -
I saw two at a gun show last month by exit 109 on Rte 17. One was a mint with the box 30-30 over 20ga. for $500 and one good shape in 222 0ve 20 ga. for $400. I was tempted by the mint one but don't really need another gun.

I am sorry to hear a story like this especially how he was allowed to get away with it. I just met a women in Sidney who went walking with her kids and dog on their own land only to find a tresspasser hunting squirrel. And he had the balls to ask her why the dog wasn't on a leash. For someone to be tresspassing on your land with a loaded gun and challenge your right to be there is too much to bear. To have a coward shoot your dog and lie about it is criminal, I don't care what the judge said.

Thanks and God Bless all our service men and women and vetrans as well as their families.

I think you need to register in advance and have paking permits for sterling forest. Just don't want you to get in trouble. Good luck.

I have been told it's a sign of a heart shot and the deer in question when dressed was indeed hit in the heart among other organs.

First off state land is fine during bow and I saw you own one. So that should give you plenty of time in the woods . If you're in the NZ and bow season is short, you can drive to SZ during our bow season which is pretty long. Second when you ask for permission you may want to offer to use shotgun or bow only as this sometimes make the owners less nervous. I have two spots in zone 7 that are rifle but have told the owners we would only use shotgun and they were grateful that we were concerned for their safety. Last as I have said many times find a club with land. I have been overwhelmed with the friends I've made and the invites to hunt their spots that I hardly ever hunt the club property. Good luck.
