Toruk, DMP is a doe management permit which allows the hunter to shoot a doe in a certain WMU with gun. So far if you buy a sportsman license you get 1 antlerless and one either sex for bow and ml. You can use both for either season or one in each. But you can't shoot a doe with gun unless you have a DMP. The map shows certain areas that you can't shoot a doe with these bow or ml tags but in general you can. I think it's one zone in the ADKs but the map will show them. So figure what zone you will hunt and apply when you buy your license. It's ten bucks more and you build up prference points if you get denied.

Nice bucks and in daylight to boot. Good luck.

Thanks WNY, I will.

Yeah, not crazy about heights myself, but I'm going on a hunt in SC with ladder stands and I'm going to try it. Should I have a harness for this? I'm hoping the ladder isn't straight up vertical. I think it will be easier if it has a little lean to it. PS also a little worried about snakes and gators so that might be the motivation to get up the ladder. I wouldn't mind a low boy at 8' but I think they're at 12 or 15.

You can when they cross that fence.

I think most of them escaped from the first round up.

The tatoo guys look like my brother in law. He won a contest and Katy bar the door, started getting his head, neck and face tatted. Not making him rich either, small prizes and trophies but he thinks he's a star. Also funny he doesn't have a Wal-Mart near him, so he's a K-Martian.

Yeah, I'm late as well. I finished the basement and that's where I used to warm up. Funny thing is I never missed the target at such close range but don't want to risk it now. Thanks for the wake up call Geno.

OK a little embarassing but my brother and I have a 20 acre plot with one small food plot and an 8x8 ground blind looking out on plot. Good for bow season and alot of turkey. Not much action during gun and hard to access if snow or ice due to steep logging road. We also have 5 acres with permission for adjoining 10. Usually keep as sanctuary till end of gun but this year we might hunt earlier. I use a pop-up on this land but I'll build a box once I figure out where I want it. Maybe a food plot with it. Also have two clubs with 300 acres and 150 acres believe it or not with very little pressure because most guys have their own spots and are very generous with invites which has gotten us on 2,000 acre,115 acre and 50 acre properties. Funny thing is we had more action on the 50 acre parcel. We just picked up a camp with almost two acres adjoining woods that should be good due to apple trees and trails and tracks I have seen.

Good luck and safe trip.

7 As an alternate if you build a ground blind whether pop up or just brush in a spot to hide the deer will get used to it. Just be careful with scent which I assume you are already. Even a small box blind will blend in after a few weeks to the deer. I would not trust that tree. Good luck.

Deer antlers are now used as steroids by baseball players!

I thought the old saying was "You can't eat the horns".lol -
OK I booked two afternoon hunts with the option for a third if I need it. I will post feedback regarding the outfitter after the hunt.

He is in a wheelchair now, must have been an old show. I saw one similar where he hunted a beach in Canada and eventually shot a griz that he snuck up on. I mean he shot it with his bow.

Finally gonna get some range time

I hate to be "that guy", but why are the guns facing downrange while someone is down range? We usualy rack em before going down range. BTW glad I got the 870 in 20 ga. I use the 2 3/4 buckhammers and love em. I used to have a 12ga single shot that was light and kicked like a mule, hence the move to 20 ga -
Dave, I know it sucks but try to look at it's $40.00 per year. There are so many people trying to take this right away from us I wouldn't volunteer to give it up. BTW that's where mine is too and I had to pony up last December myself.

What doesn't make sense is having early seasons only for those who didn't fill last year's tag like early bear and NZ archery before Oct. 1. Plus you have to carry last year's lic to small game up to Oct 1.

Now I know why the DEC changed thier policy; all the bucks are at skyhunter's.lol

PS Most guys use a tree stand or ground blind.

Newbee, just a few basics; you need camo and more important is scent control. Wash clothing and self in hunter non scent soaps and use a cover scent. I like earth scent but there are many to pick from. Some claim to just eliminate our smell while others conceal it with a natural smell like apple, pine, earth. Some guys use a cover scent on their boots, most just wear rubber scent eliminator or blocker boots except during the rut when some use doe in heat pee to try to lure bucks to follow their trail. Then you have calls. Doe bleats, buck grunts and rattling antlers. The last two are also for the rut usually. Most of bow season takes place before the rut so you will want to make sure you don't jump the gun. Most important is find where the deer are by locating feeding areas. this will probably be your best shot. Even during the rut if does come in to feed they will draw in bucks. When you find a feeding area which alot of us try to create with food plots. You can't bait deer in NY but you can grow stuff they might want to eat. I guess you'll be hunting public land to start with but if you find places near farms or apple orchards you will probably see more deer. Find the trails they are using which will be obvious from trampled grass and droppings and tracks. Droppings should be fresh or they may have moved on. Last my best advice is to join a club with their own land to hunt on. Sometimes it's better to travel away from your location so close to the city where you'll find larger tracts of land and lower dues. Other clubs are local but own land further up where they hunt. If you hurry on this last suggestion you can be in for this season. Good luck.
