I agree with the 280, or 30-06. If he's recoil sensitive he could get a semi auto but won't be as accurate for long range target, but I guess he could get reduced recoil ammo. Might be better selection of ammo in 30-06. Just steer away from light weight rifles to manage recoil.

That's a tough one to get. Good luck to him.

RIP old timer.

Welcome and thank you.

Bill, It was great to meet you and Eileen. I'll call you next time I come up.

I use Remington Buckhammers out of my 870 with a rifled barrel and they are great and reasonable. I was paying almost twenty dollars for five sabots before I switched two years ago.

I think I'm gonna go the crabapple route too. I have seen some advertised that will bear fruit the first year, I guess because they are alredy somewhat mature but they said that some will hold fruit till January. I just have to find out the best time to plant.

Well done. Congrats on a great cow.

I always wear wool socks because they keep you warm even if wet. If it's cold I also wear thin liner socks that wick moisture off my feet and insulated boots. I worry more about staying dry and I recently started using all rubber boots. Last year I used a therma care back pad which kept me warm and helped because I have a bad back. Naturally a good hat and gloves is important to keep your feet warm. Last you might try to elevate your feet if possible to aid in circulation from time to time.

Just a thought, maybe AR should only apply to State Land. I mean if someone owns land and pays taxes and wants to harvest what used to be thoughht of as a legal deer why shouldn't he be allowed? Even if it only exempts the actual owner. If someone owns land and wants to practice AR they can with or without the state making it law. It seems my choices are being limited to cater to a vocal minority of trophy hunters so why not? I also think alot of small 3 pointers are gonna start getting shot. I've seen small 3s that I would pass on but if that might be my last chance at a legal deer maybe not.

Nice buck. For a bow kill I think he is a wall hanger. Congrats.

Looks like it will be a good opener for you. Good luck.

I saw that and I've been meaning to stop by as soon as I'm sure my camp isn't going to wash away lol. BTW my camp is about a mile or so from there. I'm glad to hear about the deer cause this will be my first season hunting here. I guess I'll rough it at my camp for bow unless the contractor is going to be working but I don't think he will be. I think he's gonna be hunting. Good luck Clifford, John and all my buddies on this site. May we all be eating liver by Sunday.

Yeah, love my S&Ws. I have three and love them. In the past Rossi had a bad rep but I think they merged with another company now. Not sure but I would stay away from the older Rossi guns. I know a guy who had a problem with a Rossi revolver. I've heard good feedback on Taurus. If you're going to scope it and use only as a hunting gun why not look at Ruger single actions? American made, stronger and bullet proof compared to a double action. And probably similar cost of Taurus. Good luck with your new toy.

I usually don't shave when I go hunting so I get natural camo plus I don't like to shave without using after shave so it's scent control issue also.

Well, I'll be getting my camp back together soon. New excavator contractor will be coming in at the end of the week. Still have alot to do. Don't know if I can get it ready for bow but I can stay with my brother for that. Hopefully I can have it ready for gun. Will be my first season in the camp.

Sorry to hear of your loss. May she rest in peace.

Arizonagirl, nice rifle, you might want to try Gunbroker.com also. I think you'll sell it fast. Good luck on your elk hunt.

Great buck and you still have this year's tags to fill.

Glad to hear your cat is OK. I'm thinking anytime a yote is on my porch is "open" season. Good hunting.

Thanks Phade, I told him to consult a lawyer who is familiar with this field.

Geno, I agree with you, nothing like owning your own land. And you don't have to spend a fortune. Most real estate is overpriced hoping to get a dude from the city. I would offer half if you like it. Exception is foreclosures, many of them are deeply discounted already. I picked up a camp with utilities on 1.5 acres for 15k near Oneonta. I wanted more land but I have a 5 ac piece nearby and with my neighbor and I allowing each other to hunt It's 15 ac. Not alot but alot of deer and that's without a food plot. When I get round to planting it'll be even better. That piece cost me 6k and taxes are $230 a year BTW I have nothing but woods behind me with deer visiting my apple trees at the camp so I'm not sur I won't get a deer off that small parcel too. At this time avoid the gas areas if you want a bargain and don't mind not getting in on the gas which is a crap shoot anyway. They drilled a well across from my brother's property and he's getting nothing. I'll keep my eyes open for you as I surf the web alot.

Moose River Recreation area. Call first, there's a Ranger office in Limekiln, I can't remember the name of the one on the other side. Might be Cedar River. They have rules like only 4x4, no self-cotained campers etc. There are camping spots but the gates are open from 7am to 7pm so be prepared. I haven't been there in a while so rules might have changed. Good luck.
