  1. I usually get out for the bow open for about five days, then an occasional weekend. I go to Maine for a week in early November for rifle, Then I'll go in NY for gun open for about a week. After that if I haven't tagged a buck I'll play the sympathy card around my birthday in early December. I guess around 15-20 days total.
  2. Seems like a great deal. It would be ideal for a couple of guys who don't have a place to hunt.
  3. Good luck Bubba and all the other bear hunters.
  4. Good luck, I hope he takes it. I almost bought one years ago but the gun store only had it in 7.62X39 and I wanted someething bigger but it was a beauty. I could definitely go for one in 30-06.
  5. I think these guns sold for like $550-600 without the scope. I'd say $400-500 would be a good deal. Good luck.
  6. Welcome. Hopefully I can give you some work soon.lol
  7. John, it washed away because the culvert opening gets blocked with rocks and debris washed down. My culvert is half way down my driveway but there is one that comes under the road at the top of my driveway and just lets the water run down an embankment to my culvert. I am thinking of trying to run that one at the top under my driveway there at the top and eliminate that water from washing junk into my culvert. I heard somewhere the town does it for you when you buid a driveway if it's close enough to the road. Either way it's got to be fixed right this time. I have to get up there and see what it looks like and find out about FEMA. Any suggestions are appreciated. You do excavation on the Island right?
  8. Don't forget one or more of you may get one in Oct. When the application period ends they raffle off the remaining ones among the guys who were rejected. I got one like this a few years ago. It just showed up in the mail. Good luck.
  9. JMHO if the Savage is the model with the adjustable trigger you should grab it. I got one in 300 mag in a package and paid more. If it's not adjustable look at the Marlin bolt actions. They do have adjustable triggers. My next gun will probably be a Marlin bolt action in 7-08. BTW I love Remington and have an 870 and 760. Last I would advise you to spend as little as possible because as you gain knowledge your taste will change and that's why I think the Savage is a great deal. If you're going to shoot skeetor trap you want an auto-loader to soak up some recoil. If you want a shotgun to hunt the 870 comes in a package with scope mounted rifled deer barrel and 26 in smooth bore for a good price. BTW am I the only one who saw the documentary about Remington bolt actions firing when taken off safe. Alot of accidents and internal memos acknowledging the problem.
  10. I think you are supposed to get a DMP for every 50 acres. You should definitely check on this. I thought you give your tax number when you buy your licens and it was automatic but I'm not sure.
  11. Thanks John, I did find an alternate way in but found out my driveway washed away again and I need a new electric service. At least the cabin didn't wash away. Let me ask you guys a question: I had my culvert repaired and my driveway redone in May, should that contractor bear any responsibility for it not standing up to this storm? I understand it washed out alot more and is going to be alot bigger job this time. Also, will I be able to get FEMA money to fix? Thanks for any help you can give me.
  12. Does anyone have any info on the extent of the storm damage and how far along the repairs are? My camp was on Rte 3, I think the collapse was on the Rte 51 side from my camp, would like to know if I can get in from Wells Bridge. Good luck to everyone else who was affected by the storm.
  13. I just saw one advertised on a hunting show. I didn't write down the info but maybe you could do a search online. I know they exist. Sorry I can't be more helpful
  14. Welcome Muggzwest, first go out to DEC office in Stony Brook with your hunting lic. You'll get parking permit, map and personal ID to hunt out east. Don't forget it opens Oct 1 out there. You'll have to have reservations and check in at Ridge during Nov., but they'll explain it to you. I would call the Region 1 office first because I have not hunted out there for several years. There are alot of guys who still hunt there who can give you fresh info. Make sure you are tick proof and check yourself after hunting. As for upstate look in the regulation book you get when you buy your license. There is plenty of state land. I also recommend joining a club with land to hunt on. Best thing you can do short of buying your own. Good luck and safe hunting.
  15. I love the .45ACP. I would definitely go for a Kimber or a Gold Cup Colt before I would drop that much for an Ithaca. I think Remmington is making one and Browning is making a .22 version for a reasonable price just as a commemerative of the 100th anniversary. I have a gold cup and my brother has a commander gold cup. Talk about rare.
  16. Joe, thanks for your service. I got an early start this year with a deer hunt in South Carolina when I was on Vacation in Myrtle Beach. I also plan on my annual hunt in Maine.
  17. Just to tie up my post I hunted with low country and was satisfied with the outfitter. I didn't get a deer and posted a short account on "out of NY' section.
  18. Run out and buy some lotto tix. Good luck on the season.
  19. Cabin, I found it. Second, are you trying to make me go broke? This looks like a beauty. I'm trying to resist.
  20. OK I did two hunts with Tony and he was friendly and helpful. Saw nothing the first night but a bobcat not in season yet and a deer when it was too dark to shoot. He told me I could hunt for an hour after sunset but I couldn't see if the deer was a buck or a doe so I didn't shoot. It was alot of fun for not too much money. His wife is an award winning taxidermist and just seeing her work was a great experience by itself.

That sucks. I usually put in for 3J as a safety net in case I don't get my first choice since I have a few spots to hunt there. Well, go kill one of those monsters the AR is building in 3J and don't forget your DMP might still come in the mail. It happened to me once in 3J. I think in Oct when the DMPs are closed they have another lottery of all the denied guys and you still keep your preference points. Good luck.

No. That's only in the zones with Anler Restrictions. There are only a few. The definition for a legal buck is one antler 3" long. That has always been the way if you only gun hunt. If you didn't buy your license you can still apply for a doe tag. If you bought it and didn't apply, I think you can go back and try to get a doe tag. Don't feel bad getting one deer is a great accomplishment for a new hunter. Hell, I'm still happy if I get one. Do you bowhunt? Or Muzzle Load? Do you know what zone and WMU you plan on hunting?
