  1. I assume the truck had a license plate????? I'm just sayin'!!!! They caught a couple of poachers wit a crossbow down here in Region 3 last fall. Guess what their license plate number was? "LUV2HUNT" wow that's real hard to forget! They were caught and prosecuted.
  2. Agreed. Biologists concur that the Eastern Coyote is a far different animal than it's western cousin and has a considerable amount of Wolf DNA in their genes, absent in the western coyote. The Eastern Coyote is larger, appears more Wolf-like, habits that include family structure and packs, etc etc.
  3. Partridge Run is like that. One of my favorite places for grouse hunting. But it's a bug area, you can cover a lot of ground for nothing. I just hit the coverts that I've discovered there over the years. Hint, the new growth aspen stands can be very productive.
  4. Congrats! Nice to hear some positive stories on Grouse Hunting. Sounds like the flushing rates are good this year.
  5. Well I have a full beard. But I am fuzzy about keeping it trimmed and shave the neck line - which I do only twice a week.
  6. As a Roman Catholic, I grew up on the St. Joseph's Version of the Bible. However, I have the KJV and the NIV, as well. Just making sure I got all may bases covered! ;-) Being a good Christian is about the Llfe we lead. Not how pious we are.
  7. I like Bag targets for all around use. I like the giant Block targets later in the summer, I can put small dots on the block anywhere and focus on the spot. 3D are pprobably the most realistic to hunting practice though. Anyone that has ever shot a Animal Field round paper target can attest to shooting a 2D target vs a 3D target are not the same thing.
  8. That's impressive! Hooking into a steelhead is one thing. Actually landing one is quite another!
  9. Thanks, FastEddie... those are simply gorgeous!!! A work of Art!!
  10. That I'd love to see. Arrow making can be quite an Art!
  11. Yeah.. I get that a lot!!! "Stop stringin' your bow backwards!". LOL! Truth is I find it the most comfortable and forgiving design. The reverse handle fits in the folcrum of the hand like no other handle does. Provides for an incredibly smooth and quiet release. And makes for a very versatile hunting bow.
  12. Hi, Fasteddie... yeah traditional archery is an addiction! Here are the arrows I made for 2012. They are Lodgepole Pine shafts, the crown is dyed using RIT Dye and de-natured Alcohol (the crown is actually darker than the picture - camera flash), hand chopped full length feathers. I keep my designs simple because "Picasso" I'm not.
  13. A new to me Northwind Archery (Gerry Fiegl, Amherst, NY) Reverse Handle Longbow I picked up. Mint condition - not a scratch on her, Bamboo Limbs with Horn Tip Overlay and Cocobolo Handle. 54#@28
  14. If it is a legal firearm. They have no business confiscating it. My reply to the officer would have been similar to Doc's, to include. "Officer, you will be hearing from a representative of the NRA, the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association and my own lawyer, in short order". What part of "The right to bear arms, shall not be infringed" do these anti-gun people do not understand. Sounds like a cop to me that does not want citizens to have guns at all.
  15. Well, I hike into my spot which about a mile from the access point, in Putnam County. I ran into a fellow half a mile in, off the AT. And the gentlemen was 82 years old. I was shocked! God Bless Him! I don't mind the drag or the hike, if that is what it takes.
  16. WOW! I did not realize down to that detail. Thanks, WNYB!!!

Pygmy.. there is hope! Eva Longoria is a hunter too! There are celebs in Hollywood that hunt. But most keep a low profile for fear of being Black listed.
  18. Thanks GFH. I took out an Old New York map and plotted the WMU boundaries and came up with 4G as well.
  19. All good advice above. I've been an avid Fly fisherman all my adult life, going on 4 decades now. A couple of things 1) I would start out with either 5wt or 6 wt line, and get WF (Weight Forward) line it will help your casting getting started, 2) try nymphs and wet flies first, over 90% of trout feeding is under the surface, this will help give you confidence, 3) two must casts to learn initially, the standard cast and the roll cast, these two casts will get you in most waters easily, 4) over the years I probably have a collection of 300 or more flies on me all the time, but it is really not necessary for our area here in New York there are some basic patterns that will consistently get you fish.. the Dark Hendrickson, the Light Cahill, the March Brown, Pheasant Tail (Isonychia) and the Blue Wing Olive, any combination in wet, dry or nymph, for big trout the wooley bugger and or black nosed dace. 5) Lastly, if you can find a copy - try and get a book called "The Curtis Creek Manifesto" it is a great beginners guide book. All the Best! & Tight Lines! Steve

I would have to agree with what Doc said. And you couldn't pay to hunt with draft dodgin' Whacko Nugent. These "pro's" don't hunt like we do. They hunt petting zoo animals. I do know some of the big names in the Traditional Bowhunting world and these are down to earth individuals. The real deal. And they hunt like you and I do. No food plots or fenced hunts. I was lucky enough to have met Glenn St Charles a couple of times while he was still alive. These men, as humble as they are, left behind a huge legacy. And it is because of them, we enjoy the bowhunting seasons we have today.
