What time will you be in your spot on saturday

Based on this morning and the fact I was about 15-20 late I want to be in my spot 0600 the latest. -
WTF do crossbows have to do with declining turkey numbers?? Most turkeys are shot with a shotgun. Some people are just attention whores. I’ll be impressed when you jump out of a tree onto the animals back and slit its throat.
-
4P and 4R very low turkey numbers. But turkey hunting participation is way up. I believe way too many predators. The hawks are out of control.
-
In my favorite spot in 4P sitting in a tent. Shot two bucks with the crossbow from here. Good luck to all.

Rifle. Specifically a Remington 7600 pump carbine in 35 Remington or 35 Whelen. Heard about the Benoits in the early 2000’s and bought all their books and videos. Soon after bought my first 7600. Shot some nice bucks with the pump guns but funny thing the first buck I actually tracked I shot with a Remington 750 auto in 35 Whelen. It was a very rewarding experience that I have not yet duplicated. I shot a nice one with my crossbow and it was a great experience but it’s not the same as slinging a rifle over your shoulder and hunting on your feet. I guess I’m a cowboy at heart not a Indian.

52 years small game 50 years big game.

Unknown at this time. But in the same area and same time frame.

We all knew in our hearts it would end this way. Now the challenge is prosecuting the boyfriend. And to investigate the other couple shot to death that might or might not tie into This incident. Sad for sure.

Yes I’d like to know also??

I remember: I took my Hunter safety course at Sears and Roebuck. My grandmother bought me a 12 gauge single shot shotgun for my 14th birthday. 14 was the age for small game and 16 for big game. When a cop saw me with a shotgun coming out of the woods he pulled over and asked if I got anything. My mother let me take April 1st off from school. Every bar had a rifle raffle. I could go on for hours. But even today at every family gathering the conversation revolves around hunting and guns. Every male in my family including every one who married in hunts and or owns guns. Amazing that happened that way.

Well I started this thread in April and did not check it all summer. Glad to see no one changed their minds. So I’ll update my summer. Struck out turkey hunting. Nephew got a nice one on DEP land. Bought a Ruger Wrangler 22. Nice little handgun for only 200 bucks. Shot that a lot. That got me in a Ruger mood so I shot my 10-22 and Mini 14. Fun to shoot guns. Of course I shot skeet. Not very well but whatever. Mowed the new food plot we planted on that little piece we bought surrounded by DEP land. Clover came in good. Have several bears on camera. I’ll try for one on Saturday. As for crossbows I’m done talking about them. Not buying a new one. My Tenpoint Titan is fine. Killed two bucks with it. One good one and one small one. So that’s it. I’ll let you guys get back to the same old same old. Good luck hunting. As the kids say peace out.

Unofficially....Live from the woods 2021 turkey hunting thread.

Hunted 4P and 4R mostly on DEP land Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I got two gobblers going but real hens showed up and stole them away. I think numbers are down based on field sightings and what I heard in the woods. Only heard one shot. Some might remember last year two of my nephews scored while I was stuck sick in Florida. One scored again this year on DEP land.- 633 replies

Com’on man better cams, higher speeds, shorter axel to axel length, lighter material, better sights, better arrows, better broadheads, trigger release, .........lots of other stuff I’m forgetting. I bought a compound bow in 1973 and it was hard to shoot. I’ve shot lots of modern compounds and they are very easy to shoot. I’m going to leave this discussion because I’m bored. I’m going to leave with this thought. For the most part NYS sucks. But we are blessed with fairly abundant deer population. The season begins in September in the Northern Zone and finishes the end of January on Long Island. We can use rifles, pistols, shotguns, black powder, bow and Xbow. The bag limits are very liberal. We have the 3 point rule in much of the state and are shooting bigger bucks than ever. If you put your time in as most on this board do your going to score some sort of a deer. Any deer is a trophy. Happy hunting I hope that all your dreams regarding hunting come true. Mike.

That line has been crossed a long time ago with modern compound bows.
-
What I think is funny is that you think of these things. I won’t repeat it because I think you heard it the first time.
-
That’s really really funny!!
-
Put the time in has become a joke. My nephew bough a bow last summer and killed a huge buck on Long Island with it. I posted the pictures in the harvest thread. Modern bows with fiber optic sights, trigger release and light weight materials are easy to shoot. The purists fought against compound bows and trigger releases years ago.
-
Your right. No sense to continue. Xbow is a legal weapon. Now we are just fighting for more access. Truth be told as I already stated the Xbow limitations annoy me more than the additional two weeks. I’ll just buy myself a new bow and pat myself on the back when I kill a deer with it like I was William Tell.
-
A very good question.
-
This graph was taken from a year 2000 report about deer hunting in NYS. Notice we are now below the graph they used.
-
Yes I agree more people are bow hunting because of increased access and bows are now easier to shoot. Just like Xbow. More access and easier to shoot. Com’on Man we heard all these arguments when compound bows came out.
-
So here’s a maths issue for you. Bow take is up about 8k. Xbow take is 10k. Our yearly deer take is almost the same every year about 220K. But more hunters chose to use a bow. At least 8k more. But at least 10k chose to use a Xbow. And the DEC survey showed that most hunters support the use of Xbows. It’s called freedom. And they chose it.

Have no idea what you are referring to.
