Got a letter from the Sherrifs Dept...
bubba replied to nyantler's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
congrats. My county judge will not give a concealed any longer. I got mine in 87, so I have had concealed since then. -

local walmart denied me the right to buy ammunition
bubba replied to apoallo's topic in General Chit Chat
Wait until they realize that many rifle rounds can be shot out of an encore pistol. This is why I reload, or carry my permit with me. The last time I purchased 22 shells they asked to see my permit. She looked at it and sold me the ammo. Unless she had a better memory than I, to write down all my info later, she never wrote anything down. The only thing I have ever had to do when I purchased powder, the seller had to put my name and address in a book they have to keep for atf. If you purchased pounds of powder every day, then they might come and ask why. -
I would be more concerned about the same things on a federal level after November if things do not change hands in Washington. As far as the involuntary admission, when you purchase a firearm, that question is asked on the form. If you put yes, see how fast you are refused or at the least delayed. So, that is nothing really new.

I would think if the governor signed it, it would become law not stopped. Unless he vetoes it, then it could go back and be overridden with a vote.

and you really think the current administration is honest forthright and all for the average Joe? Wait until the new system goes into effect if you think medicare is bad. Anyone over 55 will not be getting health care and no one under 55 will be able to afford it. The good part about the current system is no one can afford a house, so you will not have to use it to pay for health care.

Some how shooting a deer in that shape after along fight and in that situation does not seem very sporting or ethical to me. Maybe I just think weird, but just to say I shot a 10 point that was lying there incapacitated does not see much like bragging rights. But to each his or her own. As to what I would do, I would call the local DEC officer and report it and wait for them. Yeah you may shoot that 10 point but good luck getting them apart without ruining the antlers anyway, So you end up with a pile of sawed up antlers and some very stressed out high adrenaline meat, and would have to make up a lie about getting the deer unless you want to brag about killing not hunting a deer that could not get away.

statistically the youth are the safest hunters. It is the group between 30 and 50 that are involved in most hunting incidents. They become careless and are lore likely to break the law which makes the incident more likely. You can find this information in the dec website.

Here is my data from my encore. 115 grain nosler partition bullet 52.4 grain Imr 4831 26 inch barrel cci large rifle primers and winchester brass. length just off the lands. About 3200 fps. Deadly accurate and deadly. My only advice is to stay away from non premium bullets. They tend to fragment a lot more at the higher speeds. For example I started out using 117 grain sierra game kings. I shot a nice doe at 167 yards nice quarter sized entrance through the ribs and tore the opposite shoulder off all but a piece of hide holding it on. The should was not salvageable at all. I shot the nicest buck I have ever gotten an 8 point weighing 197 2 days after being shot with the above load. he went 20 yards and piled up. Quarter sized entrance a little bigger exit and lungs were mush. It rapidly became my go to rifle for deer. Go with IMR 4831. It was developed for the 270 and 25-06 if you plan to reload.

You can. I got one for Christmas last year. Closest store is Watertown over an hour away, and I rarely go there. So, I used it online. BTW the Watertown store is just as bad as the others. They seem to have about a third of the inventory in guns ammo and such and much much more clothing. I was in there one day and wanted to look at a handgun. The umm to put it nicely clerk asked if I had a permit. Showed her my permit and she said she could not show me the gun as my permit was from another county. After a 10 minute debate and another store person intervening, I still was not allowed to look at the gun. I said that's ok, Dicks is in the same mall and I will go there and buy it. The again clerk is a nice way to put it said well if their price is lower than ours come back and we will match it. I was going to explain that if they would not let me look at it, due to my permit being from another county, how could they sell it to me. Instead I shook my head walked away chuckling and talking to myself.

Keep looking. Usually the late August./Early September they start. Plus, it is the up to the instructor if ti is listed on the site or not. Call your local regional office and ask. They have the complete listing and will give you sign up information. Instructors are only mandated to do one course a year, and many do just that.

Teachers can do it if they volunteer. Instructors in NY can not be paid. That is what stopped the program in schools a few years ago. Plus bringing guns into a school now is a big old no no. One would think if these interested teachers were really interested, they would be doing so now, and not getting paid.

Welcome aboard. I am across the river from you. In my office I look across at Brockville. I have hunted moose a few times with relatives who live in Canada.
