  1. I dont know if i would use them on deer or not, but the 410 self defense ammo looks awesome.
  2. Make sure nothing comes in contact with the actual barrell itself. Gun will not shoot accuratly resting on the barrell. Should only rest on forearm of gun.
  3. Rifled barrles are specifically made for sabot slugs or a plastic capsule that the slug travels in down the barrel and separates once it leaves the barrel. Buck hammers and others with tail stabilizers or plastic wad on the back say they can be used in rifled barrels but I find there performance to be anything but steller. Yes they kill deer with them every yr but there drop in velocity is dramatic past 50 yrds. Regular sabots should have 1inch groups out at 100 yrds with proper shooting form and a scope. Im not sure remington makes 20 gauge sabots but I know federal does. You can see the differance below. Switch to the sabots and you will see an improvement.
  4. Would have to be agricultural fields to find that many. I hunt for them in hardwoods because thats all I have access to and I found one fresh 3 point last yr after a ton of hours of walking and looking. And I only found that one because I almost pee'd on it. Though I must say I might not be that good at spotting them. Because last yr I went over one spot three times and this yr my Dad shot a doe in the same spot and as were walking up to her there was one lying not far from her that my Dad picked up.
  5. I would go to a full sabot slug. I always had good luck with remington copper sabots, though I wasn't really all that impressed with how they expanded.
  6. Should have went with a lone wolf, they only weigh 15 lbs. Expensive but worth the drop in lbs. The summit open shot is another good one that weighs only 15 lbs to. Though the open shot isn't for the big boys more for us short people.
  7. Try the Cedar river flow between Cedar lake and West lake especially around mud lake and ADK louie caves. Last time I was in there I saw a ton of rubs and tracks. Even my friend who hikes there all the time was impressed with all the deer sign.
  8. Did you reply both. Get it, get it X- Gun wink wink. I expect 200 posts by tomarrow Congrats on the kill's.
  9. Ill have to look into those, but like anything if they want them bad enough they'll find a way to get it off. Even if they have to drag a blow torch back in the woods. I burned my name and address into it in 6 different places on the outside and inside with a wood burning tool. If they want to conceal who it use to belong to they will have to put some time into it with some sandpaper I stepped out 40 ft and hung it up in a tree in my back yrd and got 30 pics in a matter of 10 min. Which is good or bad could be triggered outside the IR flash range which would be bad for night. But good for day time. I expect it to be less when it warms up a bit. It is currently hanging overlooking an apple tree with a bunch or frozen apples on it. I gave it a good shake before I left and dropped a bunch of apples. I let it set 2 days and went back and all the apples are gone and it say's 60 some pics so well see. Ill let it hange till Saturday then pull the card and see whats on there.
  10. Cool rain hood, I will have to see if I have an old pie tin laying around. I know the cams are suppose to be water proof but I think they are just water resistant if you ask me. I plan on getting a bear box for the cam before I place it in thieverie territoriy. I'll bring my cordless drill and lag bolt it right to the trees from inside the box. Only way to get it off then will be to destroy it. I also have several government issued hardened locks that I aquired in my Military days to lock them up with. Hope I dont lose the keys or I will have a heck of a time getting this thing open. Also the bears are thick around where I will put it and dont need them chewing it up. They seem to love plastic and work really hard at tearing down the posted signs on the property I hunt no matter how many nails I put in the sign. Bastages.
  11. Winter ready corn. Burst mode on, I can fit 2000 pics on the SD card I have in low and use the 12 vlt battery so I should not run out of juice or room for pics to fast on burst mode.
  12. Like the advice to make sure you turn camera back on. Would really suck having cam out for 2 weeks and checking it to only find out it wasnt on. Also does anyone else build a weather shield to put over the top of your cams to keep rain off the lense?
  13. I absolutely love my Triumph but thats just because I couldnt aford an Encore or a Pro hunter at the time. All three are solid american made guns and will do the job. Like the feature of being able to buy barrels for anything with the encore and prohunter though.
  14. So I finally got around to getting a trail cam and want to know what advice everyone has for trail cam usage. I will be putting it up sometime this week to hopefully see what has survived the season. Where should I put it up, what not to do, ect, ect. Let me know. I bought a 8mp IR Stealth Cam Prowler XT if any has experiance with this cam.
  15. Just a tag snack for me this yr. Was fortunate enough by the grace of God to fill 3 of the 5 tags. Was thinking of dipping them in chocolate and serving them with a nice red wine.
  16. Honestly I dont think alot of the deer herds around the state could take the xtra hunting. If muzzleloader is xtended it should be on a yr to yr basis and only in mangement area's they deem to need xtra doe removal. Xteneded bow seasons are low impact and don't really stress the deer out alot. But gun shots ringing out all the time really getem worked up.A month and a half of gun is not needed for NY. and I think a little over kill, especially if we have a harder than expected winter or an out break of disease. Could potentially be a bad thing for the herd. And stressing the deer out during the most stressfull time of the season for deer in the dead of winter during January in NY doesn't seem to be very smart either. When the snow starts flying deer need to be laying up conserving energy not running willey nilly around the woods burning up precious fat. All this will acomplish is making fat coyotes IMO.
  17. Sweat deal!! Passed on 5 doe this week and a 6 point dont want to cut up any more deer. I'm done!!! Just like to sit in the woods and freeze. Anyhow welcome to the frontstuffer for shotgun club. Ive used mine exclusively for 5 gun seasons ( 15 deer) in a row and even gave the old 870 to my dad. Nothing better than the smell of rotten eggs in the morning. Or evening for that matter.
  18. Sweet looks like it will be Christmas eve shed hunting this weekend!! My wife is going to love me.
  19. I hunt with my frontstuffer all gun season so it doesnt matter to me. never needed more than one shot. I think its catching on because Ive talked alot of people into hunting gun with muzzleloader. Very rare anymore to hear a volley of rounds where I hunt though there are still a few machine gunners out there. I finished off a doe last day of gun that someone shot the leg off of. I was cleaning her out and here they come tracking her. They all had muzzleloaders, not a shotgun in the group.
  20. I doubt any deer that layed in the woods with its guts in would be good after 24 hours no matter how cold it has been. Doesnt take long for decomp to start with guts in and blood pooling. As to your previous question, If you find deer next morning after season I'm not sure. I would say what they dont know wont hurt them. Unless its on stateland then I would seek guidance from an game officer. I'm sure they would give permission to recover.
  21. There is a guy over on the Bowsite that picked up 5 sheds on 12/11 down on the Island.
