Holy crap Grow, I thought my 20 yrds was bad enough. That would kill me and I'm 37.

wonder if he chokes chickens to.

SOME people might benefit from experiencing dispatching a deer with a knife. Who a serial killer wanna be? From my experiance and from most of the slashers on here it seem's to take a long time for the deer to expire after having there throat cut. Which in my book is not benificial to the deer or to my experiance as a whole. A second killing shot should be administered as soon as said animal is deduced to still be living. If you are worried about wasteing meat then shoot them in the neck. If you can't get close enough then put one through the lungs.

my question is how hunters on here can assasinate this mans character on conjecture and hearsay just because they wouldn't do it. The DEC did an investigation and cleared him of all wrong doing. End of story. If it was my character being assasinated on a forum like this I think I would sue the crap out of it. Hope he doesnt see this site.

I love the ATV crowd, they have chased a ton of deer to me. Guy came in on his property 300 yrds to my left on an ATV last monday. 5 min later I hear deer running up the hillside to my left and they crossed in front of me going right, just out of sight. Well just in time the neighbor starts his way up the hillside on his ATV about 500 yrds to my right and the deer split the differance and came right to me. Shot the nice 8 point in the group. Love it when a plan comes together.

How would cutting a deers throat make you reflect on life and death anymore than shooting it again? This post has taken a strange turn from questioning the neccesity of cutting a downed deer's throat to phylosophical questions about life and death. Quite strange. Anyhow this post has given me an Idea for an invention. The deer bayonet. I would make them to fit on any type of gun.Maybe held with some type of clamp since I dont think I could convince every major gun manufacturer to put a bayonet lug on there rifles. I would make it about a foot long to get adequit penetration. Deer gos down and is still alive just stick it a few times in the lungs and step back.Would keep you about 3 armslegths from the deer and safely away from it.

I dont know, unless he gives an interview I will take all comments posted about his hunt on here as rumor. I have noticed that as soon as someone shoots a nice buck the jeolous ones ( Antler envy ) come out of the wood work and the charachter assasinations begin. If I ever shoot a big buck of this caliber I would call the DEC right away before I even moved the deer and have them come out and verify the validity of the hunt. I mean really, a pic of a buck with velvet on it as proof he shot over his limit is kind of lame proof. Could have taken that pic off anywhere on the net as far as I know. Suburban hunting is no more unethical as hunting over food plots, behind a fence, on a QDM ranch, or 300 acres of posted and managed land. One or the other or all the above might stroke your fancy but it all comes down to personal preferance. The DEC did an investigation and said it was legit. I think if there was any question as to the legitimacy of this hunt the investigation would still be open and it would still be in the news as to why it was still open. It never ceases to amaze me how other hunters are willing to crucify another hunter through pure word of mouth and rumors from someone who they dont even know, just a name on some computer screen. For all I know the ones sowing contention are PETA operatives. DEC said it was a clean kill, end of story.

I belive from what I could find on the net Nys regulates cemetaries but they are privately owned and not for profit.

I would have to pass and hope someone else shoots him and ties up there tag. Where I hunt there are a ton of hunters and all sorts of shooting all the time and yet I have no problem seeing big bucks.I passed on about 12 smaller bucks including a 2.5 7 point at 10 yrds with a decent rack, which has not been shot so far this yr. So the old saying well someone else is just going to shoot him doesnt fly with me. If you want to shoot him shoot him just dont complain about not shooting bigger bucks. They dont get bigger if they are dead.

Geeze, He should buy a ticket he seems to be lucky.Glad he's ok.And may God bless him and his family.

I don't think one would hunt over populated areas for the " challenge " of it. Rather as a means of population control and easy meat. Whether or not he knew the big boy was hanging there or just got lucky and he meandered by one day I dont know. I would say he probably got tiped off that the buck was there and figured out he could hunt there and a light bulb went off. Hard to tell, the stories get a little blurry once the rack size increases. Probably hung a stand to kill deer eating ornementals in the cemetary for the owner and just got lucky. They have a huge problem with overpopulation in Ickthica. We have a simular problem here in Binghamton over at the University. There even talking about a kill over there too because the deer are such a problem. I like to run the back roads by the school on my way back home in the morning to watch the bucks chasing does during the rut. See some real slammers. Trust me if I could get back there on some property I would do it in a heartbeat. We should be glad for the guy and push to have a hunt go on in town and not side with the anti's. Deer are not pet's they are future freezer meat.

And where is this?

I agree,If half the people on here had figured out that they could have legally taken that buck from that location that deer would have been dead long ago. Some of the best hunting I have done was within 50 to 100yrds of houses. ( with permission of course ) Suburban hunting is no more unethical than any other form of deer hunting. Some people like to romanticize Deer hunting and dream of huge racks in the corn or treking the ADK wilderness in search of a whiley buck. When this guy probably had a harder job of trying to figure out where this monster would slip up and present a chance for a kill. Out of the thousands of acres of the Liberal, treehuggerdom of Ikthica This guy figured out the one acre to set up on and secured permission to hunt this and was able to make a killing shot that brought this monster down quickly and not running all over Ickthica with an arrow hanging out his arse. So my hats off to him and congrats. And to all the haters your no better than cayugadeer.org and you should probably sign up for there news letter to see how you can help stop the killing of these poor innocent deer by the big bad bow hunters. Im sure they need a few more tree huggers for there drum jerkoff circles. And yes I know I spelled Ithica, " Ickthica " Its what I call it because after your done talking to some of those bone heads up there you just feel Icky and need a bath. Guy defenitely has some cahones. View of where deer was killed. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&gs_upl=2765l5703l1l5875l10l7l0l0l0l0l485l2378l2-3.3.1l7l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1024&bih=562&wrapid=tlif132255781664410&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Lakeview+cemetery+ithaca+ny&fb=1&gl=us&hq=Lakeview+cemetery&hnear=0x89d08182e0af88f7:0xae52768a56ece74,Ithaca,+NY&cid=0,0,14040334797175121783&ei=iqHUTtjVGYe4twfnvby7Ag&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&ved=0CA8Q_BI

Just do yourselves a favor and shoot the deer again. Bullets are cheap and when placed in the correct spot will not waste anymore meat. Just walk up and shoot them in the neck where the head connects. Instant death, severs the cord and all motor functions cease. With bow place one in the chest and walk away for a bit, it can get a bit grisely. Yeah you " waste " an arrow but its not about you anymore its about quickly dispatching a suffering animal. You at least owe them that.

A game cart would have been handy this Thanksgiving when my Dad killed a huge doe a mile back from the road. Two hrs later we had her out but the last 300 yrds up hill through the pines was a pain in the neck with all the trees down from the hurricane this summer.. I'm pushing 40 and my Dad is in his 60's and we agreed to go in on a cart for next yr.

He was quite the scrapper. I haven't seen a buck so badly beat up before. He was missing a few spots of hide off his back. His neck, ears, and face were all tore up from fighting. Wish I had got him during bow season a few weeks earlier, he probably would have had been closer to 180 - 190. Its kind of a bad pic but he had a big body. Love my Triumph! Best investment ever.

Took this buck November 21st. Isnt the biggest of bucks but he's the biggest ive seen personnally this yr. Passed up 6 other bucks from the 19th through the 21st before this one showed up and got the big enough nod. Weighed 168 lbs and 15 inch inside spread 8 points.

I think you should atleast check to see if deer is dead before you try and gut it? http://www.wbng.com/news/state/133994898.html

Unfortunatelly unless he has a prior record it will probably be a slap on the wrist compaired to some states.

Good story. I'm glad to see someone else has my bad luck to with the bow. Shooter bucks Out of range, blowing past my stand at 100 mph, or showing up after its to dark to shoot sounds like my experiance. Just go's to show, that sitting as long as possible in your stand could change your luck in an instant.

I had to laugh at an interview with one women at an encampment, I dont remember which one. But basically she was crying about how all the homeless were showing up at dinner and eating all there hard earned food that they had scrounged up and expected them to feed them free food. I had to laugh at the irony. I'm not defending what wallstreet, or the goverments of the world have allowed to happen in the name of greed but you have to laugh at someone who supposedly stands against corporate greed and for trickle down poverty complaining about how people expect to receive there food for free. I especially like Obama's job bill he keeps touting. He claims it will put construction worker's, police, and teachers back to work. And who are the majority of these kinds of jobs affiliated with? Union's! Does he really think we are that stupid that we can't see he is just pandering to his base. So lets put billions of dollars into putting a miniscule amount of people back to work and let millions not in unions be damned. What an out of touch, hypicritical bunch of jerkoffs. I saw an article in cnn the other day about who the richest 10 members of congress were. The top 4 or 5 were all Democrats.

I asked around and no one has fessed up but i didnt think anyone would. A bow shot deer can travel a long distance when just wounded, so who knows where they came from.

I see bears while hunting all the time. I saw five from my stand in 2 days of hunting last week. I would have to say unless you walk up and punt one of there cubs down a hill your pretty safe. All the bears I have run into in the woods except one have gone into overdrive to get away from me.One followd me through the woods for a while, bit he wasnt agressive, even a little playfull. I think he was just curious. I did have a pack of coyotes run up on me in the dark one time though and scared the crap out of me. They started snarling and barking at me before they high tailed it. One followed me a while and would bark everyonce in a while but he never got closer than 50 yrds. But all the other coyotes I have run into have turned inside out.
