  1. I say we ban all bows, and in there place have to use a matchlock or flintlock longrifle. Seriously, I would have no problem with truly handicapped persons using a crossbow. The sticking point I guess would be what is considered handicapped? What level of physical disability would everyone consider worthy of a crossbow permit? A torn rotator cuff will heal eventually enough to use a bow again. So do "physically" disabled people need to get a doctors note evey yr saying they are still disabled or is it a one time thing? What should happen is Statewide AR and crossbows legalized for all seasons.
  2. Anyone remember this slammer. http://www.snopes.com/photos/hunting/412deer.asp
  3. I would prefer a 400 pound buck with a 200 inch rack. Could you imagine! next all the companies will be putting growth hormones and steroids in there bait, The deer with look like a bull coming through the woods.
  4. Ive always thought tree stand hunting was the hardest way to hunt. You have to put up all those stands ahead of time, then sit in boredom for hours on end as still as a leaf only to have deer pass by out of range. Then you have to make a decision whether or not to move said stand. If you move it you will watch them walk under where your stand use to be out of range. And if you don't move, then an even bigger buck will be standing under that tree you were thinking about placing that stand in. And then comes the worst scenario not seeing anything and dealing with the head games of whether or not you put the stand in the wrong place. Unless your land is silly with deer then it really doesnt matter how you hunt its all easy.

    CVA?

Whatever happened to Remington's loaders? I almost bought one of them instead of the T/C but the Remingtons were a little heavy, and the T/C Triumph had a break action and easie hand removable breach plug.
  6. Article on some of the Heaviest bucks ever killed. Shooting a 400 pound buck would be crazy. And a 291 lbs NY buck is pretty respectible. Wouldn't want to drag it though. http://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/article/true-heavyweights/
  7. My uncle found a blood trail one time and followed it in the snow. Came up on a 4 point trying to jump a fence but was to weak to. since it was to dark to shoot he layed his gun against a tree and yelled for his friends and took out a knife. The buck faced him but he was able to walk up and wrap his arm around it's antlers pull his head up and slash its neck. Well it didn't like that one bit and this almost dead buck came very much alive and started jumping around. Well apperantly it kicked him in the head because he woke up with his friends freaking out standing over him looking for gore marks in him because of all the blood. Once it was determined he was ok and all the blood was from the deer he got alot of ribbing about it but said he would never try to knife a deer again no matter how "dead " it looked. Only wound they could find on the deer was one of it hooves were shot off.
  8. 1. 5 yrds makes a big difference if your shooting a bow under 300fps 2. no matter how tempting, if you have a dominate buck (big 10 point :'( ) at 40 yrds chasing his harem of does around do not blow a grunt. He will pack up his girls and move to a more discrete location rather quickly. 3. If someone says a particular pc of state land is devoid of deer check it out its usually loaded. 4. The spot on a creek you decide to cross is always 3 inches deeper than you think it is ( causing very cold feet rest of day) 5. Climbing treestands are the best thing to ever happen to hunting
  9. Forward it to Barak Obama for me with love.
  10. Funny, Blood spurting everywhere, but just a flesh wound! Just 2 410's used to get them bunnies. Good Lord man I nearly soiled my Armor.

Conneticut Valley Arms ( and traditions also ) are built in Spain by American hateing Spaniards. T/C (Smith and Wesson corp also based in America) actually are built in New Hampshire by Americans. Savage also built in America also makes a good front stuffer. I prefer to keep Americans working so I prefer American made products. With that said, I have owned one cva that I won as a door prize. Was able to kill 2 doe with it before I sold it and bought a T/C Triumph. So they will get the job done.
  15. It was heart breaking, I watched him all summer, stalked within 50 yrds of him during bow twice without being able to get closer to make a shot with the recurve I hunted with then and watched him on numerous other occasions. He was a little bit careless for a young stud and I guess it was only a matter of time before someone blasted him. It happens I guess, Ive seen enough sensless crap while hunting over the yrs that I just expect it anymore.
  16. LOL, Hey one mans crap is another mans treasure. ;D
  17. Kind of envious, I only have 200 acres posted that I am going to go all out with food plots on this yr. Wish it was 300. I agree, as long as they can run and not run into a fence, its fair chase.
  18. Ive seen search for the holy grail, and with all those rabbits around its quite obvious what happened to him. Was the Holy hand grenade used to down all those rabbits
  19. And you need to know how to judge a deers size and shoot said deer in the matter of a few seconds. Them ADK and other "Wilderness" bucks don't stand around and wait to get shot like there southern brothers.
  20. You guys are missing the point of the question. you won it, it's free. I would say hell yeah. Pet the deer and then shoot them. When I was a kid we had chickens and Rabbits and cows we did this with so I have no problem with killing farm animals. They are nothing more than farm animals and expensive ones at that. Not something I would pay to do but if its free im in. What I have a problem with is calling it hunting. A 4 pointer killed on state land is more of a trophy than a 190 class buck killed behind a 500 acre fence. It just has to be called what it is a fenced hunt not a fair chase hunt.
  21. I also wouldn't consider a Texas Ranch hunt, where there are 30 deer standing under a feeder hunting either. Now comes the real question that should get this riled up into a frenzy of name calling. How bout the guys that put up a fence of posted signs on their 300 acres plant it full of food plots and don't let anyone else hunt it. The deer have zero pressure and walk around during the day time without a care in the world. And as soon as the shooting starts every deer in the area crams in there, Is that really hunting?
  22. Well, the male variety usually doesn't have to cope with any stress for many years at all, usually not more than a yr or so. Funny but true. Though I have been seeing bigger and bigger deer every yr, Not sure If its more people letting little deer go, Less hunters killing deer in general, or Im just becoming a better hunter. I have a feeling its a bit of all the above.
  23. All expense paid, free food, lodging, and meat for the freezer, ahhhh let me think, Ok, It may not be real hunting, but would still be fun to have your pick of 1 of 50, hand raised booners, standing in a field in front of you. Now does that hunt include a hog and a run through the stocked pheasent field also?
  24. I was thinking more like shooting at deer illegal, then we would never loose one I found a 9 point with a 10 in drop tine one time that was shot through both lungs. I found the trail in the snow and turned around and there it was laying there. I back tracked it to where it was hit, lots of hair on top of the snow. I then walked in the direction I thought the bullet came from and found where the guy was standing against a tree. He never even went over to see if he had even hit the deer. It maybe went 60 yrds into the brush from where he shot it. Still got that one hanging in the rafters in my basement would have made a nice mount if he looked for it.
