  1. Early bow season last year I was in my stand watching deer pass by in my shorts and no shirt. I doubt a facemask or paint would have done much good besides making me look like a super hero, lol
  2. Not my property, and the landowner doesn't have a problem with it so neither do I. A few plants have sprouted this year right along the trail, so I'm thinking they might become a problem to him in the near future.
  3. Got a big 20x20 patch of it right across the road from me down in the creekbottom. These plants will make you feel small they are enormous. Every year new plants pop up further down stream. I've never got any of the juice on me, so no nasty burns for this guy, although I've been tempted to test its potency in the hot summer sun.
  4. That's what I thought. No law against being a bad farmer,lol
  5. Hmmmmm..., what if a fella were to dump a 50lb bag of corn in front of his stand and cover it up with an inch of dirt, or maybe some of those leaves you've all been raking off the trail? Technically, it would become a micro plot at that point correct?
  6. I figured you were one of those guys who played with dolls Burt! Now put this in a frame and hang it on your wall at camp!
  7. Tri-County Tool Rental should have something for you. http://www.tri-countytoolrental.com/ EAST AURORA 550 Olean Road East Aurora, NY 14052 Tel: (716) 655-2375 ARCADE 16 Steele Avenue Arcade, NY 14009 Tel: (585) 492-3191
  8. Well then have I ever got news for you..... gunfire doesn't have much of a calming affect on deer movement neither, so chances are you wouldn't have enjoyed yourself either way,lol If you could see and hear the bikers coming down the paint stained tree path, I think you may want to reconsider your public land set up strategies. Again, I'm no public land hunting expert....it's just my hunch you may need to get in a little deeper than the parking lot or foot paths.
  9. What can I say to that...? Us mountain bikers, hikers, birdwatchers, and photographers are forced to be obnoxiously loud out of fear those silent, drunken, litterbug snipers in the treetops will mistake us for a cautious critters tip toeing through the leaf litter. I don't think you can stereotype different groups here without being fair to them all... hunters included, lol Even when you got all hunters on the same page with one end goal in sight, there remains a divide. How many times have you heard the pissing and moaning here alone about them pesky small game and turkey hunters interrupting big game season by intrusion... or was that by inclusion? Hunters don't even like being in the woods with other hunters. Go figure. If you're looking to spend quiet hunting time in the woods, then public land probably isn't going to be where you're gonna find it, but last I checked, making a little noise and enjoying the outdoors was still legal. If you don't own, or can't find private land to carry out your hunting adventures because someone else is likely using it for that purpose already, it may be time to be a little more tolerant of the "non-hunting public" since they seem to be the ones standing in the doorway between hunters and todays "prime" hunting grounds.
  10. The only time I use NY public land is for non hunting related recreational activities so that's what I based my answers on. I am far from being an anti-anything, or a non hunter, but this reply makes it sound like my input is coming from hunter enemy #1. Hunters need to quit separating themselves from the pack, and learn to share the lands available with everyone, to enjoy whatever outdoors activities they wish. Everyone wonders why hunters run into so many hurdles trying to secure permissions to private lands and perhaps open new public grounds, when their narrow minded approach only accommodates themselves. IMO- the non hunting outdoors enthusiast is likely to be more understanding of sharing public grounds with hunters, than hunters are willing to accept the fact that non hunters have just as much right to enjoy their activities as well.
  11. For the most part, the bucks I follow around here all summer wont disappear until some time in November. I DO get excited to hunt the bucks I'm seeing now for a good month during archery season. They may vanish during the rut, but often times re-appear in their core areas before seasons end. Sometimes I never see them again, but when they leave their antlers behind, it's hard to argue they've been there all along or at least come back before it's over. Anyhow, that's a pretty nice buck Cabin Fever. I do however sense a little frustration in your post.... I suppose that's understandable after seeing that buck you had roaming around your property a few years back.
  12. A 90 year old lady, clutching her chest, and staring at a flag is not her remembering 9-11.... it's sign language for " I'm having a heart attack, somebody call 911"!
  13. Yep, there was plenty of all that too Pygmy. Every now and then I'd hear a commotion (wing flapping and purring), and then one of them would get airborn above the grass for me to see them. I didn't have the best seat in the house for this show, but I saw enough that it counts as a first for me!
  14. Sat the field edge tonight but only had two bucks pop out of the corn. Both youngsters, but I was happy to see "Bam-Bam" still has his club horn hanging on! I can't believe how dead it is up there this year.
  15. I've seen pictures of this before, but this was the first time I've ever seen it for myself. Two of these guys did battle while the other two followed them around in half strut for the better part of an hour. Eventually I remembered I still had my box call in my pack, so I gave them a couple clucks and they made their way across the field to me.
  16. Haven't seen as many around the yard as in years past so I never even got the feeder out. Plenty of their favorite flowers out as usual but it never brought them in this year. Seeing quite a few in the fields lately though now that the thistle and burdocks are getting purple tops.
  17. Looks like something took a bite out of his ear,lol He's looking new and improved!
  18. Looks like you're gonna need to chop the top off the ground blind to let some sunshine in!
  19. An x-bow and a recurve hunter? Pretty sure there's a law against being so versatile, lol Enjoy both of your new rigs!

I hate seeing garbage in the woods. I know this isn't the same scale you're talking about, and it's more a hobby of mine to scoop up junk I find in the field. About two weeks ago I started collecting spent shotgun shells just to see how many I could find. Got 54 so far,lol Keep up the the good work!
  21. Just to clarify my point.... you don't really expect me to believe that moose has small paddles all because of mute swans do you? Yes, I saw the all of the other goofy captioned pics in the other threads too. This crusade seems to be taking on a different approach in the wrong direction from where it started. Kinda wishing I hadn't signed at this point.
  22. These silly little captioned photos in every category really missed their mark with me. I thought the whole point of the mute swan issue was to bring attention to who's in charge of making environmental/conservation regulations and decisions.... All these posts about mute swans performing abortions, and feeding on orphans at the playground are a bit of a stretch from the end goal here don't ya think?
  23. Thanks guys! I ran out for a morning hike today and decided to do some "jump shooting" in the goldenrod. You'll never guess who I walked right up on, and he wasn't very jumpy! I saw two other nice bucks and a few doe. Couldn't get a bead on any of them though.
  24. I was up there years ago just to float around and eat.....and drink. It didn't rock my world so I haven't been back. Did see a little excitement across the water while chewing down my beef on weck though! I wonder what folks talk about in those little circles after they drop someones boat from the fork lift 8ft up in the air.
  25. 2014 Instead of starting a new topic for 2014 bucks, I'll just add them here because I don't know how much time I'll be able to dedicate to this. I shot out last night to try to find some deer across the road. Bumped a few doe with fawns and could only find two bucks. I think there all hiding in the tall grass right now. Caught this guy watching me walk the mowed field edge. I cut through a hedgerow that seperates the hay from the corn when I spotted this guy moseying along.
