  1. What if he had a knife..., or a baseball bat..., or a broken beer bottle?
  2. My October rig. Nothing too flashy. Upgraded sight and swapped out my 6 arrow quiver for a 3 arrow this summer to cut some weight.. PSE Bow Madness 70lb 29" I'll spare you all my November bow for now.
  3. One of my favorite and most exciting tactics throughout the season. My most productive sets have come from trying to rattle bucks from one covers edge to another covers edge down wind, with a small open area between them. Bucks will tend to emerge from the far cover and scan the opening to look for the fighting bucks. When they don't see them in the clear, sometimes that's enough to peak their curiosity enough to pull them across the clearing to your edge when they think the two fighters have already made their way into the next thicket. Rattling works really well here early in archery season, but your results may vary depending on the structure of the deer heard in your area.
  4. Go get your camera Red. Just apologize to the nice ranger, and tell him you must have forgot to tag your cam when your cat jumped out of the truck and took off into the park. Make sure you leave a picture of "Felix" and your contact info with him in case someone finds him,lol
  5. I'm a call-o-holic! It makes me feel more a part of the hunt by communicating with the deer instead of just waiting for them. If I'm not making some kind of animal noise, I probably fell asleep on stand. I remember one time I was lowering my bow and pack from my stand on a wet rope. As the rope slid through my wet jersey glove hand towards the ground it was making a long, drawn out, vibrating grunt sound. When my gear finally landed at the base of my tree, I turned around in my climber to start my decent and spotted a handsome buck sprinting in from behind me. He stopped and looked around for a while at 10yds, then slowly walked away as my bow laid on the ground at his feet.
  6. I got my Bow Madness 4 or 5 years ago. I wont get a new bow until I get good with this one.
  7. I've got an old "clunker climber" I use like this. It doesn't bite ANY types of trees well.., it's terribly heavy.., and it scares the crap out of me to even think about climbing with it..,so I use the platform as a permanent stand now. Like the guys have already mentioned, make sure you ratchet it down good so it doesn't drop when you hop on it or bump it from below on your way up. One thing I like to do is make sure that the cable that goes around the backside of the tree is set in the fork of a branch off the main trunk to prevent it from falling out from under me. I still use straps with it for my own piece of mind even though it's not going anywhere. I don't use the top half of the climber. Instead I use a small seat designed for stump sitting, that straps to tree and flips up flat against the tree if you want to raise it out of the way. It's definitely not my favorite stand to sit in, but it's always nice to have one more option.
  8. If it's just a little hole you can cut a piece of rubber and drill an oversized screw through it and the tank. If it makes you feel any you can putty over that, but that shouldn't be necessary. Had to do that to a loaner when I backed over a piece of rebar on a job site once. Pretty sure that wont pass your next inspection though, lol
  9. Great action shots there! No one will ever convince me crashing antlers early in the season is a bad idea. I've seen more battles in October than a lifetime of Novembers!
  10. CWD.............. (Chronic Weiner Disease!)
  11. Planning on hunting with my x-bow the same way I do with the vertical bow. Stand placement will be set much the same with shots no longer than 30yds but ideally most shots will be inside 20 anyhow. That's just the way I like to hunt regardless of what weapon I'll be using. I can't say that extending my range was ever much of a factor for getting involved in the new season. It's still going to be a short range game for me and it will be interesting to see first hand how they react to the increase in sound at the shot. I doubt I'll even bother with any dampeners or silencers before season arrives. A summers worth of shooting has made me realize the damn thing is gonna be LOUD no matter what I do, compared to my verti-bow!
  12. From my first official NY bear hunt... Pretty exciting stuff! I lost the blood trail at a pile of pickles and a sesame seed bun...
  13. You're too fat to be a model! Cute make-up,lol
  14. I sent you some insider secrets Burt. Let me know when you get them so I can send you the bill!
  15. Hope you didn't get your new Luke Bryan concert tee wet and muddy out there today, lol
  16. Looks good- congrats! Something about skulls I like more than traditional mounts.
  17. BURRRRRRRRRRR.... I had to trade my shorts in for a pair of pants this morning! It's way too early for this!
  18. Wont be long before you have a few more to put up at the new stadium. Your work is showing up all over town these days!!
  19. Let's hope your buddy doesn't do anything stupid that would lead ECO's to discover un-tagged venison in his freezer. Had the same thing happen here with a neighbor down the road years ago that lead to a loss of his hunting privileges and confiscation of his rifles due to deer being put down in a no rifle zone. Putting this out there in the first place may have been the first clue that tips DEC off to their first big pre-season case of the season. The internet has become a valuable tool for law enforcement to nab poachers by their own admission or incriminating evidence posted by others. To answer the question though, I probably would have put her down as well but she would have never found her way into my freezer.

Is this the place you're looking for? http://hollandrodandgun.com/
  21. When I used to fletch my own arrows I'd use two white and a flo-green. It made it easier for me to follow the arrow in flight and recover it after a mis...... I mean pass through. The white stood out more from the greens, reds, yellows, and oranges of the fall leaves on the forest floor. I haven't fletched my own in a few years now, so just use whatever they come with.
  22. Good for you! Enjoy your season!
