I've just been working on some puzzles, and trying to stay focused, lol.

Real nice looking mounts! Does that first buck have velvet or bark around the bases, or is that just the light playing tricks on my eyes? Just curious how or if you even preserve that if it is one of the two?
-
I'm bulking up for winter Burt.... almost at 155lbs now,lol I'll bet that Steve863 guy gave them the idea! He's always complaining about the fat guys that ride their quads to their hunting spots and don't even drag their deer out!
-
Maybe he looks like this guy!

Collect calls bring back a lot of memories of nights I don't remember all that well.

I know that's how it's supposed to work, but I'm "different"! I really think I'm going to get a small stock pile of supplies started and mess around with a few of my own concoctions. Here's a vape link that keeps popping up in my research. Might save even more in the long run by DIY. http://www.rtsvapes.com/

Nice job on the vids and a great gobbler hunt! I couldn't find a "forum button" on your web page or I would have joined!

Would have been nice if they had sent you a cudde...back,lol Sorry, no experience with the razors, but I got one of those broken Blades in the junk pile somewhere too.

Ha- I'll never smoke another cigarette again, but now I can't quit vaping. I actually jumped up from 20 to 24 ml nicotine and now I think I'm going to get into making my own liquids. From what I hear, you can make your own for a few bucks for a 30ml bottle instead of paying $20 from the shops. I think it may cost around $150 to get started on your own, but those up front costs for supplies will last you a loooooooong time!

I don't pretend to be a trophy hunter. Never have, and never will. Don't blame my kind for the part I bolded above when you yourself fall into the same category by stepping outside your own criteria. You already said you'd kill this deer because your neighbor would.... and then say everyone is trigger happy, lol
-
I'm kinda rooting for your neighbors to tag him. It sounds like they may appreciate that animal for what he already is right now. I hate to see anyone settle for anything less than what they truly want. That's just the way I read a post like this when a guy starts making excuses for killing a buck like this before he even has him in his sights.

I usually get a little crazy right out of the gate in hopes of luck playing a bigger role with the early season patterns. I guess my reasoning being that I live in a really deer rich area, where sightings and opportunities seem to increase as the season wears on, plus there is quite a bit of hunting pressure from my neighbors who also kill a lot of deer, so your first crack at a good one may be your last. Usually after the first week or so, the excitement of being on stand again has worn off and my approach is more laid back and less aggressive or intrusive. I wasn't looking for any right or wrong answers with this post. I think it I intended it more to find out what risks you guys were willing to take to determine just how important the kill really is at the end of the day, and who's more interested in having a good time! There's more than one way to kill a buck, and it's pretty rewarding when it happens according to plan no matter what approach you take. The best hunts IMO are when the two worlds collide! Good luck this fall everyone, stay safe, and enjoy your hunts!

I always seemed to have my best luck with bucks taking over scrapes once the velvet started pealing off, but I always scratched up some earth in front of my cams just to draw them in out of curiosity even during summer and winter. These were usually the ones that required the most maintenance on my part, but most often abandoned. I don't really mess with scrapes anymore once/if they get taken over. Those annual scrapes seem to pop up in the same spots every year and already have stands over them in anticipation that they will get re-opened and frequently re-visited throughout the rut. IMO- these are the scrapes that that require little to no maintenance and are already in the most productive areas.
-
They're already scraping on their own here too. Are you just using it to hang a cam over, or are you planning on hunting over it if bucks take it over?

30 Years Alone In A Tent In The Maine Woods & Not Noticed
wooly replied to Mr VJP's topic in General Chit Chat
I heard he had a laptop with a big sticker across it that said "Papist",lol Even if he killed all his own food, and made his own clothes from the critters, and never broke into a single home, folks would be screaming that he "stole it" all from society. A poor guy can't even run away from home anymore. He does look pretty healthy under the circumstances. -
I'm pretty sure if they were legal back then, I would have had at least one of each. I have no clue which one I would have got started with, and I'm not sure it would not have made much of a difference in how I hunt now. No doubt in my mind that both methods would have stuck with me, I'm just not sure what my preference would have been. If there's a season for ANY weapon, I wanna be part of it today, the same way I was back then.
-
What kind of approach will you open the early archery season with? Patiently sit back and wait for an opportunity at your target buck in an area you hope he eventually uses and hunt smart..., or pull out all the stops and aggressively jump all over his late summer patterns before they change?

Happy B-day FE!

Now that you mention it, I'm feeling a little moist myself..... You know how that goes though, the older we get, the more often we have to change our diapers......which reminds me, it's almost time for my nap! BTW- I fondle my "Horton" and wouldn't touch your "Barnett" if you paid me! Biz- if someone already did it, I wanna see pics. I wont believe it until I see it!
-
I'm not too worried about it Pygmy. I just wanna be the first NY'er to post his x-bow kill in shorts! That's all that really matters to me.
-
Mine is only 160lbs. Guess I'll have to keep my shots under 100yds.
-
Glad to hear you haven't gotten yourself tangled up in some cock fighting ring Jo-jo! I always figured you were a good egg to have around the hen coop, lol

I don't shoot a slug gun anymore, but when I did, I loved my red dots. My favorite was my Winchester 1300 Black Shadow within 100yds.
