I decided to take a break from watching the field bucks the other night and go looking for some late season antlers. Just before sundown, I ran into this guy at 10 paces. I got off six shots while he ever even got his pee-shooter out of the holster....thank goodnes, lol! Only the 3'rd one I've ever encountered in the wild. They don't like it much when a skinny white country boy goes chasing them through the woods with his camera!

I sure wish I could get closer to these guys for some quality shots, but I can't risk it at this point of the season. I tried another sit last night but between the farmer spreading crap, a hot air balloon, and a small airplane doing aerial loops, there were only a few small bucks that showed up. I did get the Moultrie to catch it's first vid of a small 6'er. I guess it does lose quite a bit of quality in video mode compared to the sweet pics it takes. It does take one pic before recording video, so that's nice for a little sneak preview of what it's captured that I can view in the field on my camera before loading the vid at home. Here's the triggering pic it took.. ...and the corresponding vid clip. If you listen real close, you can hear him chomping on apples along the edge. I'll get some more pics loaded later tonight.

Last night the farmer came through the field on his quad with the dog behind and screwed everything up. I only had two 8pt's pop out a little closer than I'd like, but they didn't notice me.

Finally starting to see some new bucks show up. I'm sure some of them will start to dissapear as well, but I'm looking forward to seeing their replacements. Here's a few shots from Friday night..also saw one lonely doe,lol
-
I haven't tried the video on it yet. I'll switch it over tonight and see how she does. I've been kind of curious to try it out anyhow.... it's the first cam I've owned that capture sound with the vids. I'll post a clip, buck or doe, as soon as I get one.

Bambam- I've only had the m-80 black flash a little over a month now, so I haven't gone through to test all the modes yet. So far I'm super happy with the quality of pics it takes on the high quality setting in 4 shot rapid fire mode. I'd buy another in a heartbeat!

Happy B-day Lawd! Need a few more years on ya before we consider you a mature buck!

I bought one of the Extinguishers about 4 years ago and it's still in one piece. I used to lose a lot of o-rings and bend reeds from other calls when I'd take them apart in the field when they'd freeze up and I tried to put them back together. Haven't had to un-freeze my Extinguisher yet by taking it apart.... just move the tone adjuster back and forth once or twice and your back in business.

Dang, any one of those would look good hanging from the barn rafters! Fun time to be out there before they all vanish. Nice pics!

I might try to hang a few driveway alarm sensors aound the cabin. Maybe a few sensors on the outside facing the doors and windows, but keep the alarms inside the cabin. Put a few sensors inside the cabin as well, but hang those alarms outside. Theives aren't usually too bright and there's a good chance they're already paranoid from the drugs and booze... a few "alarming noises" might be enough to send them running for the hills. Just a thought..., and less expensive than taking a chance they will find a pricey camera.

...and just for the record.... not a single doe or fawn again tonight.

Here's a few shots from tonights sit at the field. Had a few of the regulars show up, but also had a few more I can't identify yet at such long range. Did I ever tell you guys how much fun I have sitting around a field edge with nobody to talk to, lol This is a new face basket 8 who was the first to dart across the field... before the farmer came rolling through on his quad again. To my surprise, the nice 9'er was the second to emerge from the corn while the sun was still high. The third buck to show up tonight looks like he's one of the resident 8's I've been seeing.. When he bolted across the field, five more bucks popped out from the far tree line and they all joined forces in a clover killing mission... ...and to end my night, I had one pop out a little too close for comfort. This guy may be another of the regular 8's, but he got spooked by the neighbor blowing off his left over 4'th of July fire crackers...he shot into the timber before I could get off a second shot.

Thanks for the warning Grow, but you're too late! I got zapped by 3 yellow jackets on one of last weeks hikes. I thought I out ran them after the first stinger hit me on the back of my calf a half mile back when I walked over a ground nest.... When I stopped to take a breather at the creek 1/2 mile away, I got hit 2 more times on my arm and the back of my neck. I thought I could fight the four or five followers off with my cap, but I was wrong! BEE's SUCK this time of year! As soon as the goldenrod starts turning golden, you know the deer and the bees will start acting stupid soon, lol!

Thanks guys! Funny the lack of fawns was mentioned. This has been my worse summer for fawn sightings in many years. Just a handfull here and there and most of those are roadside observations while traveling. Since my first series of pics in this post, I haven't seen a single doe or fawn in this field. My cams across the road get tons of doe, but only a few yearling bucks and not a fawn yet. I'm not really sure what to make of it all just yet, but it's certain'y not normal for this area. I'll be heading up the hill again tonight after dinner to see if anythings running around tonight. Also heard my first pack of yotes howling just as I left the woods the other night. That's something that I don't usually hear untill mid-late September, so it kinda makes me wonder if that might have something to do with things playing out the way they have so far.

That's some serious bitch slappin'! Impressive night capture freezing the action in IR!

I had my first camera stolen a couple weeks ago but I can't remember where it got stolen from. Now I've been drawing a treasure map to remind myself where I hung them all.
-
....and here's a few of the regulars. Looks like antler growing season is just about over and we'll be pealing off the velvet in a few more weeks!
-
I've been slacking getting new pics up lately. Here's a few fresh TC pics of some recent new faces... I'll try to get a few more longshots of the other bucks posted soon. Normally I get excited seeing a buck with an antler missing but this guy's kinda rushing things. Oh, don't worry.... I looked for the missing horn, lol A small chunk of this field across the road JUST got cut..... I'm looking forward to sitting it tomorrow night with the Nikon. There were some great bucks here last year. The narrow cutting isn't ideal for for my summer scouting, but I'll do my best to make it work.

Should be an easy commute at 7am heading 90 west bound. Give yourself an extra 1/2 hour head start just in case there's a fender bender heading into the city. "Rubber-neckers" going your way will slow you down gawking at the train wrecks going the other way. Avoid the "Big Blue Water Tower" merge at all cost.....

Planning a road trip to Niagra Falls middle of this month
wooly replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
You guys should be right on time for the Erie County Fair. I wouldn't call it a tourist destination, but it's a stones throw off the I-90 and I bet the whole family would enjoy the stop. Other than that, I can't think of anything much more exciting unless you wanna stop over for a beer and some small talk! -
Ha- that's kinda the reply I was expecting. I was just playing dumb. Maybe it's just your ego that gets in the way of your credability for me. That's ok... but you have to do better than to back it up with mediocracy and repetition of something you read in a book or see on tv. My concern with your reply was the way you danced around the original topic of... "how often do you check your cams?" Somehow you spun that into "this is how checking cams affects mature buck behavior", which had nothing to do with the price of beans in Mexico. So, I'm curious what your answer to the original post is....that's all.

I want pics of the big bucks on your wall......fair enough? I only remember you posting one last year, so in a sence, I'm calling you out.
-
Yes I will Paula......., but shhhhhhhh......you must lower your tone to a deer whispering whimper when we speak, and never move your lips untill administering...... "The Kiss of Death",lol
