Only thing that would make those any better is if there was an antler in them! Keep on hikin' as long as your old legs will carry you, and enjoy the morning!

One of those times you wish you had the cam set to video with sound! Good shot Ed!

I have a few spots like that. It looks like you should be tripping over antlers with every step in there, but I rarely ever find anything in them. Most likely doe and fawn groups using them most of the time, but I always check them anyhow. Occasionally, an antler will show up for me in one of those kind of areas, and when one does, it's usually a good one. Years like this one with minimal snow can really spread the antlers out as deer are not as restricted to specific travel routes, and confined to any particular bed and feed areas. Sign can be misleading (subtle) when the weather doesn't force them to lay low to conserve energy in a small area. Most bucks in my area have shed by now so following the most recent heavy sign may be the least productive approach. I generally pay little attention to all those rubs and other rut sign when looking for antlers too this time of year. Think back to those SLOOOOOW days on stand when the bucks disappeared back in late November and December post rut. Wherever they went to elude the pressure in your area is likely where they holed up around the time they hid their antlers heading into January when they started dropping. Don't be fooled by a stubborn buck or two you may have on cam recently that hangs onto his horns heading into March. I honestly believe too many guys see that and assume "most bucks in my area are still packing". Oh, and one last thing...... I've NEVER found an antler in a swamp in all the years I've been shed hunting. Maybe a good tactic in an area with swamps on a bigger scale than I'm used to, but not in my neck of the woods!

Grabbed a Presidents Day forkhorn today! Saw lots of antlerless deer out enjoying the sunshine, but this was the only antler I could come up with.
-
Caught one crawling out of a fox hole the other day. Only the 2'nd pic of one of these things I've ever got and both from this winter. First one wasn't far from here but over a carcass. Seeing their tracks everywhere lately!

Grab your camera, lay down in the snow, and squirt some ketchup on the ground around you for some good close-ups. I've always wanted to try that with them, lol
-
Gotta give them credit. They sure are resilient creatures no matter what they're up against! Looks like he's just out taking advantage of a nice sunny day soaking up some rays.

Wasn't expecting to see any of them for another month or two around here! Cool shot, and hopefully a sign of early spring! Where abouts?

You can say that again! This one is a 2015 refurb I think. I snagged it off ebay for cheap. Just what I was looking for in a critter cam.

Damn that sucks buddy. Looks like you two shared some great hunts together. It wont take her long to get another mouth full of feathers now that she has her own wings!

Well, I just thought the whole post was pretty shitty right from the start. If you're gonna bash someone online, at least have the ballz to do it to someone who knows you're doing it and has the opportunity to defend themselves against your accusations. There's two sides to every story and I don't think you're in a position to put anyone down for not being more like you. You'd throw a fit if you found out your neighbor was posting about you somewhere without all the facts wouldn't ya? What if he was calling you a lazy bowhunter who he never even sees go outside to practice with his bow, and instead practices dangerously inside an occupied trailer with his dogs and GF? I'm sure you'd have something to say back to that, but if he was doing it behind your back, you'd never get the chance.

Awesome shot! Do you think he was there to chew on the deer ribs, or just to scoop up a few mice that were snacking on them? Mouse activity around my carcasses has been crazy as soon as the sun goes down especially in my swamp set ups. I've been hoping that would be a big draw to lure one of those guys in some night.

Can't really say what I'd do in this case just because I've never experienced it in an open season like that. I've found a few noteworthy buck skulls during shed season that I've had a pretty good idea about who killed them, but at that point you never really know for sure. I've scooped up a ton of skulls over the years, and never once felt obligated to now track down the hunter that couldn't track down his own animal. Post season finds get chalked up as deadhead/unrecovered bonus bucks on the shed season talley..... end of story. They don't get put up on the wall, and there are no stories concocted about some amazing made up hunting adventure the way some of you are implying this guy is doing. There's also no CSI investigation being performed to find out "who done it?" I guess the only real issue I see with what this guy MIGHT have done would have been if he had already filled his buck tags for the season when he hauled it (or parts of it) out. If he didn't have one left to tag this "find", that was technically reduced to his possession at that point, there may be some legality issues that are of bigger concern than the moral ones we get to make up on our own. I'm not sure how that works in reverse if he had tags but didn't fill them out or report during an open season on a find like this. Just one more reason I like to wait till hunting season is over before I officially kick off shed season and start cleaning up everybody's mess.

Good thing you had the chainsaw with you to buzz off those antlers!

Out moving cams around this evening when I spotted this suspicious milkweed pod out on the frozen tundra all alone! I grabbed ahold to free the poor little fella and yanked my SEASON MAKER from under a foot of snow! I don't know where the heck this guy came from but he's welcome back any time! I ain't coming home until I find the mate to this one!

Looking to unload my Spypoint Force 10 for $60 shipped TYD. Cam is about 6 months old, has incredible battery life, and takes lots of pics. Just lacks the day time colors, sharpness, and contrast I'm looking for in a critter cam. It's not for me, but may be a decent budget cam that fits someone elses needs. More sample images from this cam available on first page of my signature link under "Trail cam pics" and "Carcass cams". Most recently taken day and night pics attached.
