  1. Merry Christmas to all my HuntingNY friends AND foes!
  2. Sweet shots for you guys to hang onto for years to come! Great job from someone who can really appreciate the time and effort that goes into this step! I know everybody doesn't get into the whole posing for field photo thing, but it's definitely a great way for you and others to look back on your hunts when you document them that way. Those are some wallhangers for sure..... The bucks, AND the pics!
  3. Pretty creative, and a nice decorative piece..... BUT, birch bark candle holders don't sound like a good idea to me for some strange reason. You realize birch is made of wood right, lol
  4. Time to start scooping up all those antlers I couldn't get my hands on during hunting season! This one still had some flesh on the skull, but looked like he'd been there a while. I didn't look for the rest of the skeleton with all the snow in the goldenrod, but I'm sure it'll turn up. If I had to guess, I'd say this skull was from back in archery season just judging by the critter wear and condition. Anyhow, it was nice to see some bone sticking out of the snow once again. Hopefully this year will be ALOT beter than last!
  5. Mine comes off whenever I get to where I'm going. A few years ago my sling almost cost me one of my best bucks to date. I had my backpack on, and slung my ML over my shoulder while I made my way to a different set up. When I fastened the waist belt of my pack, I accidently (unknowingly) wrapped it around the outside of my sling and continued on. When I spotted my buck browsing along, I grabbed the sling from my shoulder but the gun wouldn't come up from my hip since I had it buckled around my waist. Panic set in, but I finally came to my senses realizing what was happening and corrected it somehow going un-noticed and pulled off the shot. Sometimes it squeaks too at the worst possible moments no matter how much I grease it up...
  6. There's a few spots around here where guys like to chuck the carcasses over the guard rails every year. One location, just on the edge of a county trail park entrance, they're even kind enough to take the time to load them into big black Hefty bags before they launch 'em over the edge. I suppose the bags help them slide across the snow to where they all pile up in the same place at the bottom this time of year. The carcasses themselves wouldn't draw much attention to anyone in this area, and the scavengers usually clean them up pretty quick. It's the bags left behind that make it obvious some pig hunter had a hand in its disposal.
  7. My sisters little forkhorn from 2015 had the same thing behind his ear. Didn't even give it much thought and got him cut up and stuffed in the freezer. Far as I could tell it was just a surface rash of some sort that didn't go any more than skin deep and just in that one spot. She don't eat the ears anyhow!
  8. Because it's sitting there all alone looking pissed off that her husband is out fishing and having a good time with the boys, lol
  9. I never realized how good I had it with Verizon until I got HughesNet.
  10. Small craft advisories are still important even when you're not on the water....
  11. That's the way my gutpile location is currently. I'm trying to fight off the temptation to move it for something different right now. As soon as the creek in the background of my pics freezes, it becomes a K-9 MEGA-highway as well as a few other unexpected visitors. A few years ago I found a deer carcass down here that was getting pounded by a group of winter mink even during daylight. Countless times I'd walk up to the carcass while they were gnawing away inside the rib cage totally oblivious to me being there. I've been meaning to set my blind up here and have a go with the handheld camera and these hawks, but now the creek has flooded and my blind is on the other side. Maybe I'll give it a shot this evening in snow camo from the brush. I can bring old smokey along in case I see some more walking guts to add to the pile!
  12. Only ONE thing better than getting a hawk on cam to me.., and that's getting TWO hawks on cam! Fresh guts bring them back in no time flat! The crows and ravens know the cam is there now and wont land on the pile with it so close.
  13. Just want to get in on some of the late season action with another nice slickhead! Killed her 12-17-16 at 30yds while still hunting. Dropped in her tracks with a solid shoulder shot.
  14. Made a similar (almost identical) shot on my archery doe this year. The entrance side looked good at first, but she was obviously quartering towards me harder than I had thought. I got the same balloon "pop" on impact which I believe was the arrow penetrating the diaphragm at such a steep angle completely missing the lungs. Hardly any blood at all from her either, I'm guessing due to loss of pressure in the body cavity to force it out at that point. Arrow exited out the guts in front of the rear leg seen here when I flipped her over. Deer found the next day less than 50yds from impact sight. Walked right by her in the dark on my way out, so it must have got the job done pretty quick. Good luck with the recovery.
  15. Absolutely they can fill up fast due to a failing pump. You may also want to check to make sure your pumps discharge line exiting the building is still tied into your storm drain.... or extended away from the foundation far enough.(depending on your set up) If pipe is cracked, snapped off, or glue joint leaking outside the foundation wall, the water may not be making it into the storm drain and simply recirculating back into the basement. Good chance it's just the pump though.
  16. Damn... just put some new deer track decals on the truck window backwards.. Oh well, at least there all facing he same way,lol
  17. First of all, congrats on a great late season buck and first with the ML! Now someone needs to explain to me what kind of history one has with a 2.5 year old 6pt, with a 17" spread that tells them this is an inferior buck with bad genetics? What did he look like last year... a basket 6... a forkhorn.... a spiker... no clue..? It would seem to me wherever he got started he has made a pretty solid jump in packing on some serious growth in a short time. In my area this would be an EXCEPTIONAL 2.5 yo 6pt, with unknown potential if given the chance to mature. Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT saying you shouldn't have killed him. I just think it's a little too early to start playing the "cull card" on a free ranging 2.5 year old NY buck of this caliber. You really don't know what he could have been with a little age at this point so spare me all that CULL crap, lol. I'll admit I get a little annoyed when I hear guys making excuses for the deer they kill when it's not the biggest buck on the property, so pardon my post if anyone finds my opinion offensive. In no way is it intended to take away from your KILL!
  18. Sorry for your loss bud. Take comfort in knowing you were right there for him and did what you could. Some things are just out of our control and part of Gods bigger plan.
  19. You're probably right. I was looking at the wrong (2015-16) regs book, lol My bad!
  20. ML doesn't start till December 14'th. Don't start rolling those regular season buck tags into antlerless just yet. Regular season runs till the 13'th
  21. Hell yeah DUUUUUDE!!! Sweet bucks and great season for sure! I like the sun star effects, but they distract from your buck so I cut them out and tweaked them a bit... hope you don't mind, lol Congrats!
  22. Well then I get to keep what I was gonna give you to wash it down with!
