When I first looked at the map I had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't the piece of land I'm watching, lol You are spot on, corn is tough to "observe" as I suggested. I missed that part that the entire field section was corn and filled in the blanks with my own property layout that offers some good opportunities to view around the boarders.

When do you know you have coyote problem?
wooly replied to GR HUNTER's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
You're freaking clueless about coyotes ............rob...., so I didn't bother quoting the rest of your fantasy post. Seriously, you should stick to topics you have some knowledge about instead of pulling shit out of your ass like you did here. I bolded the part you need to "Google" more before you keep spewing senseless crap like this Have you ever even SEEN a coyote in the wild? -
If I could add one thing the "summer scouting" list, it would be to observe first hand before you go tromping through an area to randomly hang cams. You got a good chunk of land there for observation if you can slip off a few nights after dinner to just watch how things unfold in those fields from afar RIGHT NOW! Grab the binos, some skeeter spray, and anything else that makes you feel comfortable and just pay attention to where they are entering and leaving the open spaces in front of you. That's all subject to change over the next two months or so, but since we went to the October 1'st opener now, there's always hope you can nail a target buck by back tracking his summer patterns early in the season. I'm not gonna get into dissecting your map any further than saying I'd be concentrating on that BIG GREEN area right now to learn how he dots connect from there.

Not really. When I didn't find many antlers or dead bucks here this spring it told me they made it off the hill to more suitable wintering grounds before the snow piled up and temps plummeted. The does and fawns are what really took a hit to winterkill. I counted 50+ of those on my hikes. The big buck in the pics is the one I have the last 3 years of left antlers from. He'll be 5.5 this fall. For some reason no matter how bad the winters get, he sticks it out here and amazingly pulls through.

Don't the gunfire when you pop a yote bother them? -

So you only shoot them once they get inside the fence.... or just on the outside looking in? Just wonderin'... -

Forgot to say, this is my favorite post from this thread! Curmudgeon gets bashed quite a bit for his stance on yotes, but I honestly believe that he's had more opportunities to observe yote behavior more than most here ever have . (with the exception of those DWOD (downwindoutdoors) guys that knock 'em over like tin cans. If you guys think that eradicating coyotes from the NY landscape entirely will help your beloved deer population on your properties will increase your odds then whack away. There will be another...bigger...better.. less intimidated by humans predator that will take his place. It's hard enough to find an efficient yote killer during the winter months, and I'm sure the novelty would wear off real quick with a swarm of skeeters buzzing around your heads while your sweating your nuts off during the summer months. Some guys here are dedicated to predator hunting, but for the most part, most here aren't driven enough to target them while big game seasons overlap no matter how deep the hatred runs. Another hairy predator will soon step in to take the coyotes place as soon as you think you've got it all under control. Yotes have an appetite for those white footed mice that seem to be the primary carrier of ticks that carry lyme disease. Take your pick of what is more threatening to your woods I guess. -
My buddies beagle likes to pick up empties around the pool and conveniently stash them in the shade at the corner of the pool house. If we could teach her to open the refrigerator door and bring back full ones in return, that would be pretty sweet!

When do you know you have coyote problem?
wooly replied to GR HUNTER's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I'd bet if the OP had posted a trail cam pic of two yotes together in that field, he could have kept the same title for this post. The way many of you are talking is that one coyote on your property would be one too many, so my response was directed towards that way of thinking. I spend a ton of time in the woods through all 4 seasons, and I see plenty of coyotes. I also see an abundance of many other species that should be non-existent if I go by some of the responses I see here. Really don't matter to me how you guys handle things in your woods, but I'm here to tell you, until you get out there and really pay attention to what's going on with the big picture, it wont make much sense anyhow. I am not anti-coyote hunting by any means. I think they are beautiful animals, and exciting critters to watch, and challenging animals to hunt.... within the regulations. -

By the sound of things here, it seems like coyote season is already open 365 d/p/y and it's not helping control the population much. Like if it WAS legal year round everyone could stack up SOOOO many more since they wouldn't spend so much time looking over their shoulders. Or maybe everyone that claims to be killing all these yotes out of season is just FOS, but pretending to be a POACHER has somehow become an admirable title for "hunters" to label themselves with. -
Got to see another amazing sunset tonight.... Also got to see my favorite buck!

Mudbugs & Grilled Salmon, It's What's For Dinner

You're the only guy I know that is happy his girlfriend gave him CRABS! -
Seriously, I was in my observation stand tonight with a couple of bucks in front of me. (within 30yds) I got no problems trying new things to see a deers reaction, especially this time of year. I let one RIP that shook the metal on the stand I was in....... they never even flinched with the wind blowing right to them. About 10 minutes later, they got up from their beds and looked spooked outta their minds. That's the same way they reacted when they smelled my orange creamcicle vapor last week. They'll be back...

VERY artistic image Lawdwaz! Great composition and leading lines! You nailed this one! I admire all the time you put into setting up your shots! I think this would work well in black and white also, lol

Pretty sweet! Any altitudes above 20ft are not for me. I was on a plane ONCE, and that was only so I wouldn't get divorced before the honeymoon was over! My window seat was right on the wing and I swear I saw every one of those wing bolt slowly un-screwing itself with every bump in the road. Good thing I passed out before we left the runway and don't remember a thing until I woke up on a ship!

How's this Paula...... lmao? Think I'll get any bites now? I snapped that one at the waterfalls today.

Not so hot here. Been running the same ad on Craigslist for 6 months now and no takers yet. 5' 9''.., white boy.., 150lbs.., blue eyes.., yellow teeth.., red neck..., brown undies... "Red Dog".... FREE to good home! Love, wooly

Thanks guys! I'll bring back something to hang on the walls next time I see it! That's the problem with having too much gear...... it's easy to leave a lot of it behind when you don't think you'll need it.
-
You guys are alright in my book.... but that ain't saying much! I'll add "The Cleveland Show" to the list of laugh-ables, but it's not for everybody..., here, lol

Going through some pictures, I forgot to post this beautiful sunset I saw on my walk home from the deer stand last week. I forgot this happens here pretty often. I didn't have a wide angle lens with me or I would have got some better shots that weren't so cramped. I'll bring it next time for sure. Pretty sweet sight to see! I was tripping over my own two feet because my eyes were glued to the sky walking home in the dark!

Damn..., that dude had a talent for creating excitement when there was not much to be excited about during a Bills game the last decade or two... Bummer for sure.
