That's what you ADK hunters are supposed to put in your stand seats to keep you awake until a buck finally shows up. Big woods bow hunter "No-Doze" basically, lol
-
I've tried all kinds of pin configurations and at one point or another that all seemed to work well for me at the time. I could never get used to the one pin set up though for some reason even though many of my bows shot relatively flat to 30yds. I shoot two pins now (20+30) but prefer to lean on my 20 for best results.
-
I need to start practicing some sort of quick draw with my eyes closed and my zipper down. That seems like the most common time for a shooter to show up, and I haven't been able to pull it off yet,lol Those last few dribbling drops hitting the leaves 20ft below when you gotta cut it off and spin around mid-stream always send them deer into red alert mode!

Maybe all this has nothing to do with controlling the herd at all in these doe only zones. Perhaps the real intention here was to get more hunters into the unaffected regions where we got plenty of buck and doe for everybody! A little reverse psychology on the DEC's part would not surprise me especially hearing how many here will be hunting the first two weeks in different unaffected WMU's now.

It looks a lot like grouse crap without the brown cap I'm used to seeing. I doubt it is, but I'd be investigating/observing some of the other bird species in your area that may be the culprits. Probably wont be too hard to narrow it down from there if he's a frequent visitor as it looks he might be.

Noodlepoopers..... they're a new invasive!

Does anybody do fallow fields?
wooly replied to sailinghudson25's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Maybe it would have been easier if he just asked check "yes or no",lol Sorry grow, I couldn't resist, lol I'd love to hear how you grow cornflakes to fallow though! -
I'm not real familiar with gun mechanics, but from my experience, the 870 is one of the simplest guns to disassemble entirely and put back together even for a dip-whit like me. That's where I'd start.

Enjoy,,,, I wouldn't eat that thang as delicious as it looks! Only orange stuff going down my hatch are shaped like carrots, lol

Don't kid yourself NFA...., clearing a forest or native forage field to convert it into a corn, clover, or soybean plot for the sole purpose of deer hunting has an impact on everything surrounding that plot. Seriously, right down to the birds that carry seeds from those naturally occurring fields and deposit them in other areas to create new native growth that supports ALL wildlife even the critters you're not focused on trying to kill , Most hunters these days don't have the time to dedicate to really see what's happening out there year round, and that's understandable,, but you can't dismiss it when it's happening right before your very eyes. It's easy to miss when you got the deer blinders on all the time. I'm not trying to sound like a smart azz or know it all, but I try to take note of even the most insignificant changes around me now that I'd rather hunt with a camera these days.

You be quiet unless you got something constructive to add to this, lol I'm sure you got somethin'....

Really great post Jennifer... even if it was just a summary. The only problem with what you've clearly pointed out is the blatant disregard for less preferred game species in the eyes of the typical special interest group of hunters with ONE goal in mind..... more deer killing opportunities. I don't think it's possible you're going to convince anyone here other than a select few that less deer and increased predators is a good thing. Deer hunters have tunnel vision....PERIOD, and I'm not claiming to be immune to it myself at times, but it's the truth. Invasives on all levels from insects, to critters, to vegetation, are constantly introducing themselves to our landscape due to the changing environment we've created, and most are going unnoticed until they become a problematic. We have to result to drastic measures to rid them from some areas entirely before the next invasive shows up to take care of the problem for us, creating a whole new set of problem we have no idea how to solve once again. As much as I hate to say it, I don't believe the modern day hunter is much of a "conservationist" anymore just because they dump loads of cash into their outdoor pursuits. Most will talk a good story, but ultimately, they're clueless to nature and real conservation. No one is really paying much attention to anything out there anymore beyond their favorite critter to kill. Sorry to break it to you all this way, but that's one of the biggest turn offs to hunting that turns a lot of folks away, myself included, or makes them give up a past time that was once a very enjoyable way to pass the fall and winter months to seek out other ways being more involved with the entire experience..., not just the hunt and kill.

Goygeous wolves Biz! You are right...., NY'ers would be no match for those hungry monsters!

Great installment to this thread Bucko! I enjoy following along with this thread as the seasons change even if I don't get into some of this stuff the way you do. Looks like the kiddos had a blast out there with ya!

First 2 Weeks October/Muzzleloader Doe Only Implemented 2015
wooly replied to LetEmGrow's topic in Deer Hunting
WHHHHHHAAAAAATTTTTTT.... you gotta be chittin' me! First I've head of this. I think you're full of it! -
LMAO- you rock Burty boy! Charlie has become somewhat an idol to me for his photography skills, but I don't pay much attention to ANYONES predictions outside my own observations any more.
-
Yeah...., definitely don't forget the rubbers, lol Gonna be a long weekend alone in the woods with your buddy and you never know what's gonna happen! You guys could stumble upon a tribe of naked bush bimbos infected with HIV and have to fiddle fudge your way out of a bad situation, lol
-
Yep- missed you in my reply. No change for us 9h'ers. Shoot 'em up, let 'em walk.... whatever your heart desires, we are free to hunt as we please the way we have been.

You must be talking 'bout poachers right? Last I checked, guys moving into areas killing deer on properties that they weren't welcome on were considered trespassing poachers. Yes, that does make things more difficult for a landowner or region when you look at it that way. Someone like yourself threatening to reconsider what dmu's they hunt is not an issue seeing you likely already have access and approval. It won't change much in the grand scheme of things. My comment of gunners grinning for the moment was only directed towards the divide that has recently come about between the two implements.(gun and bow) There is a separation there, and some are failing to see this will have an impact on ALL hunters in the end whether they realize it or not right now by fueling this separation. The whole "it doesn't pertain to me" will one day soon..... so wipe that smirk off your face before someone wipes it off for ya. (DEC)
-
I understand that completely, but you know what's gonna happen when and IF the gunners wipe out the whitetail to DEC standards....(whatever that may be) That's when they'll pull the rug out from under all of them as well and this shoddy management plan will affect even them. If you don't think there will be some screaming and yelling then you're out of your mind! All (gunners) that may be grinning ear to ear today will likely shed some tears tomorrow when "the ultimate goal" is finally obtained. This trickle effect always starts at the bottom when there's an unknown agenda that need to be implemented.
-
I have to admit, I was a little shocked to see my area in 9h go unaffected, but I think last years bad ass winter saved us with a mass doe/fawn winterkill. Or maybe the coyotes are doing a better job than I gave them credit for.... After seriously reading every post in this thread, I think some of you are having a hard time seeing past the deer under your stand no matter what the sex or how many are there at one time. Absolutely I think this was the wrong way to go about (start) getting things under control, but I'm sure this is only the beginning. Regardless of your preferred weapon of choice, changes needed to be made, and they started at the bottom of the totem pole. Eventually they will make their way to the top with new changes and EVERYONE will feel like they're being crapped on equally the same. Just wait and see....but don't be surprised when it these management plans roll over into gun seasons as well.

Great vid!

Do I gotta spell it out for you or what Paps.... I may have killed a fawn or three, but I'll never publicly admit to it.... OK, I just did, but I may have sneezed while filling out my tag. I got people that look up to my hunting prowess so I got a reputation to uphold, lol (not really) I thought for sure you would be the first to jump on my conspiracy theory bandwagon (but I guess not)
-
Remember once upon a time we had to check a box on our carcass tags to acknowledge our kills "adult" or "fawn". I never killed one with spots, but I did kill many anorexic "adults" that yielded under 30lbs of flesh. Maybe that was some sort of subliminal conditioning for what the future of deer hunting would be, to open hunters eyes before they pull the trigger.... much like they're doing here. JMO, but those guys and gals up in DEC headquarters got more time to think this crap up than I do.
-
I knew that but I was just taking a poke at the way they come to these numbers. Wouldn't it be great (seeing that these percentages don't really mean all that much) if there was a box on the carcass tag the hunter could fill in with his own age estimation! NY would become the mecca of 3+ year old spikers, forkies, and basket sixers, lol It wouldn't hurt nothing since we don't know any different anyhow.... Maybe then all this AR talk would go away finally.
