I saw my first set of twins on one of last weeks hikes through my hunting grounds but they didn't stick around long enough for a pic of them together. I'll get 'em.... but yeah, this years fawn crop is not looking so good so far here and I think we're not seeing as many since winter took out many of the expecting mothers.

I almost forgot about the bear that killed a deer in my neighbors yard a few years ago, lol. This sucker didn't even eat the deer, he just killed for sport, and then moved on to the bird feeders after he was done drooling all over the soggy carcass! Once the food was gone, no one ever saw the bear again. Bears typically aren't ambush predators that lie and wait over a location waiting to pounce just because they caught a meal there before.(unless we're talking grizzlies over a salmon pool) They're scavengers or oppertunistc feeders... not pre meditated killers, that's why I think something rare occurred the led the bear in the original post to kill this deer where it did. Anyhow, here's our local killer!

I like horse-radish on my roast beef, so I'd be willing to try some of the other horse parts, lol

I probably would have shot that bear 1000x's............... with my camera ! I think there is probably more that led up to this than we see here. I would guess that deer was sick or injured and the bear "hunted it down" and cornered it in that backyard where it could easily catch and eat it.

Hunters Creek trail park is the one I ride in, but it's actually in South Wales. It gets pretty hairy up near the Centerline Rd end along the creek before the bridge. Heading down towards Rt. 78 is a leisurely ride winding up and down the ridges. Great place to just tie the bike to a tree and hike around for the day if you got nothing better to do. Don't forget the camera..... lots of critters running around in there too. Lots of room to roam and no hunting make it a great outdoors escape for anyone just outside of the Buffalo area. Very clean and quiet country setting as well!

Beautiful shots Elmo! You do a great job with the architecture and cultural stuff! I wouldn't even know where to begin there! I picked up a 50mm 1.8 for this kind of street stuff, but I found I don't get out enough to use it as much as I hoped I would. What camera and lens did you use here most? Thanks for letting us tag along on the photo journey with you!

Let me get this right..... you take a trip across the ocean, to a far away land, and the only two pics you bring back are of a statue and a stuffed animal, lol You gotta do better than that.... no holding back on us now!

Should be ok as a last resort, but I'd wait till all the vodka is gone, and stay clear of the fire crackers this weekend!

I have a pretty rugged county trail park just 5 miles from home so I do a lot of biking there in the summer. Some of the trails are rather treacherous with 100ft+ cliffs just feet from the twisty rooted trails. I'll have to grab a few pics next time I'm there. I've been beating this bike up for about 5 years now and thinking it may be time for a new one, but I'll probably wait till next spring with that. Since I quit smoking almost a year ago, I really enjoy being able to push my physical limits way beyond the casual rides I used to take here.

Any Non-white Members?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it's because they haven't got any good bucks on trail cams yet. Give it another month or two and the avatars will change like the fresh autumn winds..... -
I appreciate the comments everyone! I keep looking for ways to improve, and this quick set was just a small step towards that. The more I look at these pics, the more I think a couple more off camera flashes and triggers may have really made them that much better. I wish I had lit the bottom of the snake better to show the checkerboard pattern of his underside, and I wish I had another flash behind him to separate him from the background, but I doubt I would have had the time for all that even if I had all the extra gear I wanted with me even if I did have it. I don't know if his size shows well in this set either, but he was every bit of 42" if not longer.... hell, he may have been a slender 48"er for all I know but I didn't put a tape to him. Some of the other shots I snapped really show it better, but I wasn't crazy about them. I like big snakes because they seem to tire out faster and stand their ground more than those speedy little guys that slip away and never quit trying to escape so it makes it easier t photograph them I know my pictures aren't perfect, but like ants.... once apon a time my pictures REALLY sucked even to me. There's just something about photography that has always been addictive to me no matter how good or bad I've been at it! Getting close to the critters has always been the funnest part for me.

I don't know, but I don't think they get preorbital by working on the plumbing system, lol
-
It's a link for preorbital scent NOT urine. Might work for some situations. I know of a few summer "scrapes" that pop up every year that have no signs of pawing the earth or urinating below the licking branch, BUT there IS a licking branch. Come fall, these are always some of the first scrapes to open up so it may work well for pre seasoning positioning of scrapes where you need them, but I've never tried it. Durring season you can accomplish the same thing by clipping the licking branches from scrapes in other areas and hanging them where you want them.

I'd keep that quiet if those were my cows. Wouldn't want the FBI yanking me out of bed in the middle of the night with a box of Q-tips to swab my "angus" for DNA! Not worth the $125,000 IMO!

Q: What is a "real" hunter? A: Here ya go....
wooly replied to mike rossi's topic in General Hunting
I made it to the 7 minute mark with no greater sense of eskimos being any better hunters than anyone else. I got more of a feeling they are more of a seagull type opportunistic scavenger from what I did watch. -
Great shots Curmudgeon! Finding stuff like those little guys can be pretty exciting...... for me at least, lol! Glad you took the time to grab a camera and snag a few shots! Keep an eye on them. That first step looks like a real doozey!
-
Go get 'em Red! $100,000 bounty on the line.... I'm rootin' for your azz!.......... In all their travel , I wonder how many antlers they picked up.... or left behind along the way?
-
LMAO!
-
Honestly, I don't "LOL" any more about a bad cop getting killed or locked up any more than I do an honest citizen getting gunned down on the streets by a thug or a dirty cop. I could give a rats azz what happens to either of them perusing the lifestyle they chose. It really doesn't affect my life, but I do pay attention to what's going on and bank that information away in the back of my mind should a personal situation ever arise an encounter with either party.
-
Lol- the COP was the killer..... he was the one who should have put his hands in the air and layed down his weapon!
-
So if Scott had gotten the cops "taser" and used it on him, the filthy pig.. and Scott would both still be alive and Scott could have served his sentence....... if convicted of a crime of course. The cop would have never missed an hour of pay, and lived happily ever after. Look at both of them now.
-
Yep..., just ask Walter Scott how that worked out for him when he was pulled over for a broken tail light and shot dead 8x's IN THE BACK! Cops get nervous arriving on a scene even if they DON'T see a gun, and they don't always use their best judgement before "pulling the trigger" to diffuse a situation because they are also susceptible to human error judgement calls just like the rest of us.

45....................................? You're probably in bed already! Hope it was a good one!

These guys are more elusive than NY mountain lions! Hard to believe not even one trail cam pic of them yet!
