  1. I'm taken a few beers on guided hunt in maine and NB. the guides all use heavy plastic sleds (guide sled). These are not childerns toy's but heavy duty firewood and big game moving devices. One man can easily drag a 250lb beer out of the woods with one of these. I've done it many times (no snow over grass) and i'm not in the best shape.
  2. Is this a proposed law of something that already passed?....thanks

    Clean Up

    I usually take these steps: (a) Retrieve ( b ) Wipe clean (c )Redeploy (d) Repeat
  4. Culvercreek hunt club - I 100% agree with you. This town needs to fund it's own solution. You and I don't need to pay for it!!!
  5. they are bedding along highways. train tracks, schools and office parks. and yes along side houses. These deer are tame. you can walk up to them and pet them. I'm sure you could get a nice buck down there with a baseball bat or golf club!
  6. You have a better chance at hitting the power ball than getting permission to hunt private land in hasting on the Hudson. Greenwich CT is quite a different town. Large estates and MULTI million dollar properties. Hasting is a town of city commuters (mostly middle class) with very small parcels of land. Most of these folks would call the cops if you knocked on their door asking permission to hunt or they would report you to the humane society
  7. Not in Hasting on the Hudson. Not much land. I doubt any public large tracks. You could pull off the highway and great bucks if you want to jack one.......Just hope they don't run 30 yrds into someone back yard. Don't get me wrong, I would love to hunt them. But there no land. And the Westchester County Cops have been treating these small tracks on the side of the highway as their private hunting preserves for years. They will chase you out. the town needs to hire sharp shooters to cull their deer
  8. If you are not going to scout. Maybe you know some farmers / land owners up there. Pay them a finders fee to loacte likely bears spots for you. But I think you would be better off going to Maine and booking a hunt.
  9. I'm all for hunting them if feasible. But there is no land and no real backyards in this town. Most folks have a 1/4 ac lot or smaller. These are urban deer living in narrow strips along MAJOR highways and shopping centers. The above said, they need to bring in trained shooters with small cal. Rifles to eliminate the deer problem. It would be a nightmare hunting 10 miles outside NY city.
  10. It's a nice deer and I would take it. As for age I still say 2.5 (I know), maybe 3. check out the link below http://www.1atexasdeerhunting.com/bodyagingdeer.htm
  11. bIZ-r-oWORLD No way he's 6.5yrs old. In Putnam deer rarely ever it past 3 years. It a nice deer, but still a only a few years old. The velvet make him look bigger than he is. right now he's 100 tops. might grow a big larger...maybe get another 10 inches or so, but the ass end and neck are thin...unless you are saying he's real old and declining
  12. just my opinion he's 2.5 yrs old / 95 to 100 inches
  13. I used to hunt Peakamoose Mountain years ago. Its part of the Slide Mountain wilderness area. You might want to check this place out. I think you'll see more bear then large deer http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/9150.html
  14. many times a large swamp will have slightly higher ground..maybe a small 5 to 10 ft hill. I've often found the bucks bedded on these spots. Bucks tend to use these higher spots to gain a better view or perhaps to stay dry. try to locate and sneak up to these spots. Good luck
  15. There’s absolutely no need to have AR’s. I’ve gotten plenty of nice 8 pointers off public land. For those that haven’t been able to connect with a large racked deer and want to make some tasty bone skew. Maybe you need a new spot, maybe you need to wait for the pumpkins to march back to the pumpkin patch (3rd day of the season). The woods are usually empty of hunters the second week. If you put the time in, are willing/able to travel to new spots, you’ll find larger deer. But lots of folks want to eat there deer, some kid want to shoot his first buck. An old fart might not want to wait in the cold to get a buck. Whatever you want to harvest is ok with me. If you really want something hanging on the wall that you can brag about, go on a paid hunt
  16. It's a root of a lilly pad...very common
  17. http://screen.yahoo.com/massive-deer-herd-jump-over-102226379.html
  18. Damm- LOL...you can catch them as well on the to RI...right off 84 above hartford...I guess I had a freudian slip
  19. 'Rhode' not 'Road'. Bring a good size bass or pike rod. and a bait runner reel if you have one....if not free spool the line. use 15lb test and circle hooks. get some bunker chunks (also and live line eels or, bunker or porgies) and you should get in to some blues or stripers. Stripers will be below the blues....blues will be mid water or near the surface...strippers on the bottom Night fishing will be better than days. if you can, Narragansett (point judith) has a large charter fleet. private boats and party boats. If you have the time, get out on a private or party boat. Good luck
  20. GMC Seirra and a Toyota Camery POS with 220K miles (it wont die) on it...Camery had lots of dead deer in the trunk prior to getting the truck
  21. Biz-R-World There are plently of bear down here. One just got hit by a car on RT 22 (Wingdale) the other day. Try some of the NYC property in Kent or near Fawnstock (Putnam). Saw 5 in Dutchess (sow cubs twice) last year. There some ok state land as well in Dutchess. But if you are going to target them, you need to scout now and get them with a bow. Once the gun hunters get in the woods, the bear seem to vanish. Best bet is if you know any local farmers and orchard guys have them call you if they see any. I have a few farmers that will let me know when they spot bears (for a fee $). Good luck
  22. Go to google...type in 'adjusting a garage door'. you'll end up with few videos and some other DIY sites. good luck
  23. If you have crop fields around you, I wouldn’t waste time or money planting food plots. I would manage the property to provide thick nasty bedding areas (mt laurel, thickets, etc..). Leave these areas alone (do not enter them). Hunt the trails between the thick bedding areas and farmers’ fields
  24. Culvercreek hunt club - I'm not concerned about any of this. I shoot what I decide to take. If i want a large racked deer I put the effort into it. But some people don't have the time or patients to do so. I don't care what they get. If they want to shoot a spike go ahead, who i'm I or in this case the state to say anything. AR is just plain wrong. If you want a large racked buck, work for it, go to a perserve, book a hunt. If you put the time in, you'll get a large deer. I've done it many time on state land....it really isn't that hard
