  1. Mike I’ve been following your posts as non-water fowl hunter. I hunt small game and big game, never got into water fowl. As you might remember, I started a thread where I stated that I thought it was a waste of state money for state employees to round up and remove swans. However, I really don’t care if folks choose to hunt them. But your postings got me to thinking. What do you think would happen when the 1st swan is shot by a water fowl hunter on Long Island sound or the lower Hudson? Not looking for an argument, because I don’t hunt ducks or intent to hunt giant white ducks. Don’t you think the NYC media would film this first swan being shot by a hunter? Wouldn’t it get posted to social media. I don’t think the limited number of NYS water fowl hunters could ever win the public relations shit storm that would come your way. I think within a short time of the first swan getting shot down here, there would be calls for the complete ban on water fowl hunting on long island sound. Again I really don’t care if folks hunt swans. Just don’t want to pay NYS employees to remove them. Let land owner or others gather the eggs or hunt them if they wish. But beware of what you wish for. I always thought it important to pick your battles and mute swan hunting might not be a battle worth fighting. best regards
  2. Also there is state land off of rt22. above Dover Plains. you should be able to get a turkey there
  3. much easier getting permission to hunt small game in Putnam / Dutchess than getting permission to hunt deer. knock a few doors and you'll get a place to hunt. But i would look for working (real) farms. I would avoid gentleman farmers / weekend farms (horse farms) of NYC folks. They won't be inclined to give you permission
  4. My father fought in Korea...had a 30 cal. carbine. the 15 rounds in the carbine wouldn't always stop a screaming Chinaman...why would a 22 stop a criminal. The carbine ended up being used as a baseball bat lots of times. somethng larger than a 22 would be needed for home defense
  5. I love it!....well not really I moved all my assets off-shore. Ain’t got no money, no more Getting free health care on your dime Even though I’m in my prime Lobster and sex aids, all free Sandra fluke, come do me Bama baby’s, we will abort 73% already done according to newest report Love them subsidies Get on your knees Like Michael Jackson I aim to please
  6. what year is the gun...what does is are the 1st few numbers of the serial number. interetsed in what version of the ithaca company built it. if its from the 80's or 90's I might be interested in it. thanks
  7. not too many farmers left. 3 or 4 orchards in North Salem. 1 in Yorktown ( I think). large horse farms and other large land owners in NS. but real hard to get access. Orchards are you're best option
  8. I've been small game hunting in westchester for nearly 40 years (north salem). mostly orchards and some large horse farms. been using a shotgun all this time on pheasants and rabbits. There are two hunt clubs in the area you might want to call. (1) Putnam fish and game (2) North salem fish and game...north salem fish and game might have closed though. good luck
  9. It's a shame that the average dummycrat / liberal won't understand this
  10. I've had luck with a small fence in the middle fo the road. nothing to big, just big enough to make the driver slow down. just make sure its small enough to drive around. Put your private road sign on the fence...should work
  11. Giant white ducks are very good eating. Was a traditional English Christmas dinner! I have no issue with hunting them just with the expense state is will to spend..but they been protected in england for years.
  12. I read the website and links within it. i think it was more the 11 pages. I think the effort to put the report together was a waste of money as well
  13. you mean this link...http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7076.html if so yes...your point?
  14. So why don't they kill ever Pheasant? Brown trout. None of which is native to NYS. Both are introduced / invasive species.
  15. I would say NYS is. there are better things to spend their money on. Mute Swan are harmless and been here for years.
  16. Not kidding! NYS has no money for hatcheries, no money for its pension promises, no money for getting rid of feral hogs and many others worthy projects, but it seems to have money to capture or kill or kill 2000 mute swans http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Mute-Swan-Cull-Kill-Plan-Long-Island-New-York-State-242298341.html these folks are nut!
  17. here's one I got a few years back
  18. As I see it there are two options open to retired folks in this state Vote with your feet and leave (avoid high property taxes)Sell your real estate and rent a home. This will allow you to avoid high property taxes, but allows you to live in a state you are a custom to. I’ve already started to liquidate my rental property and will do the same with my residence in about 10 years when I retire. I love this state, but can’t afford it any more and don't want to be made a criminal because I own firearms
  19. Oddest thing, I ever saw in the woods was when I was hunting a small patch of state land in Putnam county some 20 years ago. I’m 30 feet up a tree watching a trail, when I see two young lovers holding hands and being very affectionate towards each other. As they get directly under my stand, I realize that it’s two dudes. 2nd runner up is when I walked to my stand in the dark and stepped on a sleeping coyote. my 250lbs crushed the poor thing. it howled and whined for about 1/2 in the dark...never saw it in the day light
  20. just passing along an email from New York State Senator, Greg Ball Friend: I have teamed up with Purple Heart Homes to assist a service-connected disabled veteran in either constructing or fully renovating a home in our area. We now need YOUR help locating a qualifying veteran! To make this project possible, we are working with Dale Beatty of Purple Heart Homes. Dale is top 10 CNN Hero finalist that was deployed in Iraq in 2004 when an explosion from an anti tank mine hit his vehicle, and resulted in the loss of both his legs. In 2008, he founded Purple Heart Homes, a registered 501©(3) non-profit organization. The veteran does not have to live in our area currently, but must be willing to relocate to Putnam County. To qualify, veterans must have their DD214 and a service-connected VA disability rating. If you know a qualifying veteran or would like to join the Purple Heart Homes Senate Task Force, contact my office at (845) 279-3773 or email Krista Gobins at [email protected]. Sincerely, Greg Ball New York State Senator, 40th District Albany Office: 817 Legislative Office Building Albany, NY 12247 518-455-3111 District Office: 1441 Route 22, Suite 205 Brewster, NY 10509 845-279-3773
  21. This nation is broke....we don't have enough money. But this said, I second Mr. VJP comments that the military is underpaid and their pensions are too low. There are better places to look to cut. We might not all agree with this list, but places to look prior to the military are: - Length unemployment insurance - Foreign aid - Obamacare - Welfare / WICS - Public sector unions (pension / retirement ages….have them wait until the social security age to collect) - Government regulations But the simple fact is a shit load of American's are just not working and paying taxes. These folks need to have jobs. JOBS = TAXES hence revenue to the government. This nation needs to allow business to employ the people. If unemployment was calculated the same way it was in the 1980’s the unemployment rate would be near 14 or 15%. If the congress / president did some of the following we would see job creation and thus increased tax revenues to the treasury: (a) Repeal Dodd / Frank ( b )Repeal Sarbanes Oxley ( c ) Repeal Obamacare (d) Open ALL state and federal lands and waters to oil and gas drilling ‘d’ above would a long way towards increasing revenues to the treasury. Just thoughts
  22. I guess I would ask premission from our protector and overlords and watch the deer flop on the ground for a while, or I would simply take off my skirt and walk up to the deer, place the barrel a few inches away from its head shoot the damm thing. No wonder we live in a nanny state. People would actually call the cops.
