  1. Keeping it mowed is ideal. Not practical in one of my plots. So I read to spray mid may and mid june to kill it down a bit. That ensures proper seed contact come august when planting.
  2. Have done Brassicas and oats. Not the rye but it should work just as well. Here are some pics from a no till plot last year. July (week after spraying), August, sept and then oct.
  3. If all of the plants are dead (you may need another round or 2 of glysophate in mid june and again a week before planting), I suspect a tiller will be fine. I turned over an overgrown grass field for planting last year without spraying (bad idea) with a tiller. And, with what you plan to plant, you don't need to go deep, just soil contact. In fact, I suspect you could have good plots without the tiller. Killing everything and soil contact is all you really need for Brassicas, oats and winter rye. I don't plan to till this year. Just spray three times (first this weekend, again mid june and again mid july) with spreading seed in August. Then fertilize 4-6 weeks later with 15-15-15. Just my experience - others may have more knowledge. https://www.whitetailhabitatsolutions.com/blog/easy-no-till-food-plot-methods
  4. I should have done that and got out with you Sunday. But I am willing to take the ride again if you want company. Did you say that your wife works in Lake George? Sagamore? That's where we are staying.
  5. Starting late in life, I really don't recall what my first gun was. Possibly my CZ 455 in .22 cal but I know I bought a few centerfires about the same time. Natalie's first is my CZ 455 and she has also been given the tikka t3x 7mm-08. When she gets her license, I suspect a savage 220 will be in order. That's a really nice gun you bought her Sodfather and I suspect she will cherish it for life!
  6. Heading to Lake George for a firm retreat this weekend. Guessing I will see a ton of birds on the ride up and back. Perhaps it will inspire me to actually get out next weekend. Congrats to all you bird killers and those that will get it done shortly!
  7. My back lawn is a 6 too. Can’t figure out how to train the dog to use a toilet. But I love her, even if she leaves yellow spots and other land mines.
  8. With ya Biz. Finished cut 3 myself today.
  9. Stop talking about someone’s great grandmother like that you two!
  10. Go stickbow. Used they lose little value if any. Plus you automatically become smarter, more handsome, stronger and taller. Well maybe not taller for you.
  11. This really is not a joking matter. I really hope those shrimp get the help they need.
  12. You hunting off that deck? Looks very viable. lol
  13. Maybe in the turkey world Janet Reno is crazy hot. Seems like a strong possibility.
  14. As opposed to the hot hens?
  15. I gap off of the riser or sight window for elevation and use the arrow for windage. After shooting a bow enough you kind of just know on the elevation but it takes a while. But if I shot a longer bow, the fixed crawl would certainly be an option. It makes it so easy if you set a crawl for 20yds and just put the tip where you want to hit before releasing or slightly higher or lower for distances from 0-25. My way requires two cross references before shooting until you really have a groove and then you stop thinking about elevation. It works but fixed crawl is easier. I just don't like how it make the bow feel and sound. I did shoot my first ever trad whitetail using a fixed crawl.
  16. Lots of good reviews on the push. They shoot a fixed crawl I think which pretty much makes the tip of your arrow the sight for a given distance. Its effective although it does tend to be a bit louder.
  17. You do have to come to grips that you are aiming for the center of a softball vs a hair. Hopefully you hit dead center, but minimally you keep it within an inch or 2. That said, my recovery rates are just as good with a trad bow as with a compound. Blood trails are not as pronounced however. Loosing 4 deer would certainly make me reconsider. And I have had times I picked up the compound just because I was not confident with how I was shooting at the time. Its not an all or nothing game.
  18. Same exact coaching technique our defensive line coach used.
  19. There are a few good trad shooters on this forum. I just post more often! Culver was shooting good on Sat. Look forward to seeing him hunt with his recurve this year fabricated from his Dad's old compound. How cool is that!
