  1. I am not as handsome as Devito but I appreciate the compliment!
  2. I think I mentioned earlier this year that the bacon, mayonnaise and white bread sandwich is a hunting lunch favorite for me. Man that would be the gourmet version.
  3. Wishing her the best with her competition.
  4. That’s the plan Dinsdale. Much like trad shooting, I just need to find what works best (hence my inquiry) and repeat a billion times. I just need to shoot a lot and will do so. Would love to have confidence at 150 offhand. I definitely need a rest or tree now for that type of yardage Wolc i plan on practicing several times a week with the pellet gun. I shot my best back when that was my primary practice tool. Just kinda forgot about it. But it is coming back out.
  5. I think I need to be more deliberate when hunting. I know I rush shots. Don’t get me wrong, I kill deer fine but I think I could become a better shot if I really focus on proper technique. I just need to figure out what that is. Lol
  6. Bottom of pad just before first joint (farthest from the hand). Do you place the trigger after the first joint?
  7. Some good advice. One thing I realize is that being thick and then add winter layers, I find it tough to find a comfortable spot on the shoulder to place the butt. It’s not bad in a tee shirt but I seem to like a shorter LOP. I shoot my little henry really well off hand and I suspect that’s part of it. Also I was pulling the rifle into my shoulder via my right hand today and just barely supporting the forearm with my left with left elbow tucked in. This seemed more accurate than putting any pressure on the forearm. Bench shooting I put very little pressure on the gun but I need more to stabilize off hand. Appreciate the comments. I will think also more about how I am pulling the trigger too. Too slow and I get jumpy but I don’t want to jerk it eithet.
  8. I shot targets a lot before I started hunting. In fact, it’s what prompted me to start hunting. I was a decent shot off a bench but never did much off hand shooting. Now I rarely hit the gun range and most of my shots on Deer are offhand. If I can find a tree to lean against, I do, but in a stand I am not really “compact” enough to comfortably rest against anything, including my knee. I am an average shot off hand but would like to improve. So please share your technique. Where do you shoulder the gun (closer to chest or further out)? Do you pull the rifle into your shoulder to steady? Where are you putting pressure on the stock? And how slow is your trigger pull? Any other tips? the pellet thread got me motivated to shoot 20yds in the basement with my pellet gun again. Practicing offhand and standing. If you can shoot a magnum Springer pellet gun well a rifle should be easy Lol Anyways, let’s hear from you snipers.
  9. This is the truth. Unfortunately NY feels compelled to legislate in a manner intended to address those that don’t follow the cardinal rule of know your target and beyond. Those that don’t follow this rule should not be allowed to hunt at any hour. And those that don’t follow this rule obviously are not complying with sunset rules anyways. sad.
  10. I too am a stay at home guy but might just pop by TF’s. His eats always look good!
  11. One free hunt in WNY! dont want the echo just wanted to outbid jerkman.
  12. Benefits of a recurve. Not very accurate but can be shot inaccurately in no light too! lol
  13. I agree with this part Stubby! And depending on how high you set those standards, there will be years where no matter how hard you work, it just doesn't happen. That is one of the things that we should enjoy about the pursuit of a mature buck, its not easy nor guaranteed.
  14. You don't want your house on-goings to be recorded for all time Biz?
  15. Quality is a matter of opinion as is the desire to shoot trophy bucks but we both know they are out there even in NY. I don't disagree that NY could be managed to produce more mature bucks which personally I would like - but that's is not everyone's goal. But I really don't think even that would cause the younger generations to jump into hunting more. I thought I read somewhere that the biggest segment of new hunters are those that want naturally occurring food sources and that does not require more mature bucks.
  16. Nice job! I heard hotdogs are quite the job (triple grind and cooling). I was lazy this year and brought 40lbs to constanzas which will yields 40lbs of dogs and 50lbs of sausage. But being lazy ain't cheap.
  17. And I will offer my opinion on why numbers are down from 1984 - technology. It has caused people/kids to demand immediate gratification and a hobby like hunting that requires quiet patience simply doesn't fit the bill and that ain't going to change regardless of whether gun season is 10 days or a month.
  18. You're welcome for that tid bit of info. lol
  19. I saw it Storm and explained the significance in my last post. I have to work now but best of luck with advancing your argument.
  20. Additional licenses would be 10% of the population growth while hunters only make up approx. .03% of the population based on license sales. This means statistically that participation is growing at a great rate over the last 10 years. For what its worth though, the most hunting license sales occurred in 1984 (as far as I can tell) and NY is down from that number. So at least base your argument on a longer period.
  21. And assumption No. 4 for you in this thread. At least you are consistent. And who can prove that you are wrong about this one too since there are no verifiable means to prove you are right or wrong. But of course those that buy tags for others in the household for their own personal use must be a new phenomenon and something that didn't occur 10 years ago (to the extent it occurs at all). Clearly that is what caused more license sales, because you say so, and because it fits your agenda.
  22. I haven’t Larry but they were always touted as the place to buy this brand when I was shooting air rifles a lot.
