  1. My question was more directed to the idea that neither is really an option for a guarantee
  2. We definitely saw a drop in movement based on cams starting Sunday PM (when it got warm). Last Friday, Sat and Sunday morning were good.
  3. Thurman Thomas sure makes Batavia Downs sound exciting. lol
  4. This time Nomad is driving the classic Buick! I think we might be better served scheduling this post season, but your call.
  5. I have had 2 deer that I hit and didn't recover (one I know I gut shot, left overnight and still bumped it next day - deer search couldn't find it either - and the other I could find literally nothing (blood, arrow, etc.) so I suppose I could have missed but my eyes and ears told me otherwise. That would put me somewhere above the 90% mark in terms of recovery rate.
  6. Sat a few hours but left early. 1 doe and 2 fawn. Too cute to shoot.
  7. And you don't see a little hypocrisy in taking the position that the line you set for compounds is fine, but anything different than that is not? Would you be willing to revert back to hunting with a traditional bow? I don't agree with precluding compounds or cross bows, but think the argument would carry greater weight from a traditional bowhunter. In any event, good luck with whatever weapon you choose Doc.
  8. So you started us down this slippery slope ..... Doc! Just kidding. I am more than happy to share the season with any hunter that uses any weapon that does not change the nature of the season, which to me is killing deer in a more natural state vs. on the run when the guns start blasting. Seems to me that there is a very logical line that should not be crossed in defining archery, but I guess not everyone shares that same view. But I do like John's suggestion of a week only for the recurve and longbow starting Nov. 4. lol I think once you have had enough successes, the hunt becomes less about getting a deer and more about the enjoyment of time out there and perhaps employing methods that increase the challenge. It hasn't taken me too many seasons to realize that. Admittedly, its easier for me to say knowing that I have a nice population of deer to chase on private property. But I am seriously thinking of sticking with a stick and string through open season this year (at least when the weather is decent). HOWEVER, I would never want to impose my preferences for how I hunt on the rest of the hunting community.
  9. And I thought this thread would have a different result than those in the past ...... haha
  10. All you can do is voice your opinion. We don't make the rules. But Doc, you mentioned the uproar when compounds came out and how many were opposed to their use. What was your stance then regarding including compounds?
  11. Wish they would. It would be nice to see that type of participation.
  12. And if you hunt in the nude, its even more uncomfortable.
  13. Good luck Bionic. Good advice above.
  14. Just learn to levitate Buckmaster. My 13eee work fine on those little platforms, but I only hunt blind deer. That might help.
  15. I think archery should be limited to self bows shot off the hand (no cheater shelf) with self made wood arrows and flint heads. That's the true spirit of archery. OK, I really don't care. I have no problem with crossbows being allowed. I would object to a weapon requiring powder like a ML but otherwise, I have no objection. We can all challenge ourselves to whatever degree we choose.
  16. You will shoot low on a 20yd pin that close. Some people use a 30yd pin that close. But you shouldn't miss the deer entirely. Probably a combo of low shooting and peaking. Just a guess.
  17. We use primarily basic ladder stands (no arm rests etc.) and only 12" to platform. They work fine for us. We try to have back cover whenever possible, but have some without it and still kill deer. Move slow and strategically is the only advice I can offer.
  18. Busted by 2 doe coming but my spotter and I are ready. Note to selfdon't sit double facing west.
  19. A blind? That's cheating worse than the automatic Matthews. Good luck Mr Biz.
  20. No blind. Sitting a double but she is an old pro. We have killed deer everytime she came. First time in bow though. They. Spook theyspook. So be it. Will be fun.
