Thoughts on adding a pond to the property?
moog5050 replied to First-light's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
That's hilarious. Screamer on the pond (well kinda short scream until hit opposite shore 60ft away). lol -
I am always jealous of the early shots of good bucks because we rarely get them. Mostly doe and little guys, but the better bucks seem to make their way to our grounds at some point come late Oct and Nov. so I can't complain much. Seeing them early and not at all come season would be more frustrating. Doe bedding on your property may be best as they stick around and bring in the big boys.

Happy Father's Day all you dads

And refinished. Pink string and some purple jazz arrows and she is ready to rock.

The riser was a standard compound riser made by bear. It was then modified to accept ilf recurve limbs. They make really nice recurve risers with some modification to the limb pockets. Called a warf in the traditional arena. Can be bought and modified inexpensively but are as nice as much more expensive metal ilf recurve risers. The limbs are standard ilf axiom limbs. Picked them up for $50 on eBay. This is what it looked like in a prior life as a compound.

Old black bear compound riser milled to accept ilf limbs and some inexpensive sf axiom limbs. 64" bow and about 32-33lbs at 28". Springy rest. Shoots really nice. I may paint the riser for her but she doesn't seem to mind the rat rod look. I enjoy shooting this lightweight as much as her. Now to make up some well tuned arrows. She will only need to move up about 5lbs over the next 4 years to be ready to hunt deer. Pretty sure this bow would kill deer at my DL. Had no issue hitting 3D targets to 25yds with reasonable umph.

Very nice. Extra FOC is forgiving and provides lots of momentum , i.e. Penetration.

Even though Core started this threaded, I am prettty sure this is all Biz's fault. Like a school kid out for the summer looking to cause some trouble. Well done Biz. Lol

Pretty sure will smith killed a deer in 2A then, along with some other creatures. Might as well offer $1mm.
-
Is 2A manhattan? No idea.

Stop being so rational and level headed Grampy. By the way, Joel caught a 5lb large mouth today. His biggest yet.

Law, remember his name is Biz-R-O

Count me in when you give beef away. A perfectly cooked bone in ribeye is as close to heaven as I have been. I like venison too but it ain't no Ribeye.

Its not a sport. Its a means to feeding my family and putting antlers on my wall. lol Ok, not really. Just a fun hobby. And stop with the spear unless you plan to give the deer a spear and teach them out to use it too. Mano a mano!

Interesting Doc and you may be right, but it seems that there is a resurgence of traditional bowhunting presumably to increase the challenge. Then again, we all live in our own world and perhaps that is just my perception. Of course HF hunting is more in line with what you are suggesting.

lol - does an atlatl count. What about if you just sit in the tree without a stand? Shouldn't hiding behind a natural ground blind be cheating too? What about camo clothing? Scent blocker better be prohibited. Or shooting anything further than 15yds? Guns seem like cheating too, especially rifles. Actually any weapon with a sight should be precluded. AS a matter of fact, if you can't kill it with your bare hands, it seems unfair to the game. Man, you have raised so many serious questions. Enjoy the Mets.

A lot more fun or impressive? Blinds are often easier than stands to kill deer from in my experience. I suspect your opinion would change if you bow hunted. BTW - even in IA, I don't think there many 100 acre spots with 8 100" bucks roaming. But of course, better property means better opportunities.

Geeze Biz, it ain't that easy and I am glad its not. I am not saying you have to be a hunting guru but it takes work. C'mon up, I will give you my bow and you can pick a stand, knock down your buck and on your way. You know how many NY hunters are disappointed every year and 99% hunt from those easy stands. You have land, you should know that its not as simple as you make it sound. I did stalk one with the recurve two seasons ago and shoot her from the ground. Cool experience but unless you have huge acreage, not the most viable way to hunt - blows out small properties real quick.
-
Geeze, I was ready to sign up for my 200-220' buck but am color blind so how would I know which trophy to shoot. Well that stinks. Maybe if I pay extra, they can have a guide sit with me and confirm which deer I paid for.

Spin and glows or peanuts behind flashers (cowbells really) and bouncing the cannonball has taken tons of lakers on our boat. We usually limit it to two lines because its gets tough keeping with the hits with more.

Pygmy's are not fake. Big difference. The mermaid put them there for all to see. lol

It was fun Grampy. We didn't even have to cast. Just drop the hook/worm 4 feet from the bank and watch them swarm. Hardest part was hooking them as they had very small mouths. Lol. Ana wasn't casting much further but did hook 2 large mouth. Joel caught one bigger one in the whopper plopper. Boat still not in. I hope the water drops soon but everyone is complaining about the June lull out of Rochester anyways.

Are you serious about this? Never heard of pumping air into a night crawler. Explain please. My daughter and I crushed the pan fish at the local pond. About 25 fish in an hour. My wife and son both caught a couple of nice largemouth but Natalie and I battled for most fish. Quantity over quality. Lol
