  1. Good to know I am not the only one. Phade had little sympathy laughing his butt off since we almost both stepped on the deer we were tracking. BTW - I missed her. We did finish her off before I went to the hospital for stitches.
  2. Actually shouldering the gun and keeping your eye from the scope is a good idea. I KNOW SOME IDIOT THAT DIDN'T THIS YEAR AND HAS A NICE PERMANANT REMINDER. LOL
  3. To follow up, I purchased a bushnell elite spotting scope 15-45. It was nice, but after testing it for a while, the short eye relief drove me nuts. I returned it. My next move was to upgrade my binos and get a tripod mount. That was probably a much better move for me. I went with vortex viper hd 10x42. The glass is great and I really don't need more for the range, especially with the mount. I will use them during hunting season, so they will serve dual purpose. That said, for $150, I also picked up a doubler and while I haven't tested it with actual range work, I think the doubler would work even at 200 plus yards for target shooting based on some testing in the field behind my house. Not as bright as without the doubler, but not really needed for target shooting as I don't shoot targets in low light. I absolutely love the viper HDs.
  4. I have no idea how to tune a crossbow, but it sounds like you are fishtailing.
  5. Bought in 2012 and never left my basement last season. Its a great climber and perfect if you are bigger (350lb capacity). Excellent condition too with upgraded carrying straps. I just don't use it as I now prefer climbing sticks and a hang on. $175/bo. I live in the Rochester.
  6. Congrats Nerney. Nice deer and mount.
  7. Having just seen a show where they shot a big brown bear and it charged to within 15 yards afterwards, requiring a second shot, I think I would want a bigger cartridge than 30-06 for browns and grizzlys but it is the minimum "recommended" cartridge. That said, I agree with Lawdaz as it being the most versatile round for NA.
  8. I saw a 700 acre parcel for sale with a 70 acre lake for sale in the Adirondacks for $750k. I was trying to convince my family to chip in for a compound. Never happened . lol Settled for a 40 acre swamp. Probably better hunting anyways.
  9. Too much lawyer in me. lol
  10. Grizz - don't post thing like this. I understand you have the police involved and I am sure that is what you were referring to, but others may not recognize this.
  11. Had more opportunity on those last deer season than turkey this year too. One passed my stand at 15yrds.
  12. Thank goodness I can redeem myself in only 4-5 months. At least I am reasonably competent at killing deer. Turkey must be smarter.
  13. Then by all accounts, I must have had a blast. I just didn't realize it. LOL.
  14. There are a ton of them on the dock at sodus point. Not sure if they would let you bow hunt there.
  15. I learned that I am a horrible turkey hunter
  16. Haven't heard from him since memorial day.
  17. You sure make the most of it Wooly.
  18. Wooly, you have some great wildlife encounters. Can ask your general area of NY?
  19. Thanks for the ideas guys. Tried a bushnell elite scope but hated the eye relief after using it a while. I sent it back. I am now planning to try vortex 10x binos (which will be used in the field) and a doubler at the range. I think that will suffice, especially if I try Mr. VJP's method.
  20. You can never be overly prepared Phade. You should know that! What happens when I do kill that monster buck at 400yds with my Sako and need to 4x4 over the rough terrain to retrieve it. I know you wont help drag. All comes into play then, including the drawer to ensure my scope isn't bumped. lol What kind of analyst are you?
