  1. My assumption is that baiting is only effective if you train the deer by keeping the bait available for prolonged periods. Dropping a bag of corn the first week of the season has little if any effect I suspect. That said, I would not hunt over effective bait sites for deer. Bear on the other hand ... I would give it go if allowed.
  2. Looks like you chose the right spot. lol
  3. Or have your friend pick it up for you. LOL
  4. I will throw my guess in at 138". Regardless, great mature buck. Hope you see him in the stand.
  5. I must be a sucker but think you did a nice thing. If she is scamming, that stinks, but you still did a nice thing. Good for you.
  6. It was quite the relief. She will still act surprised for the kids but at least I won't have to wait for her reaction. Much more relaxed ride from the airport tomorrow.
  7. We used a ground hog max on Phade's ATV this year. Worked pretty darn good, but it was reasonably soft soil - appeared to have been farmed many years earlier.
  8. Well I broke the news and my wife was a trooper about it, as she is with most of my antics. The pup is 90% housebroken already. Only 1 accident in 3 days and when she has to go, she will whine at the back door. I think we got a winner for sure. She likes the carpet in the truck WNYBH! She also prefers it clean without blood stains. She told me so.
  9. Belo Bringing attention to the cause is the whole point. It helps raise awareness and money beyond just the challenge. Its a terrible disease and I hope they raise as much as possible.
  10. Her father was all black and big. Mom was red, Black and Tan and much smaller. She seems to look more like dad.
  11. 12 weeks. 30lb female. Follows everywhere and is learning commands first day. Didn't attack our cats and hasn't barked yet. All is good until, at least until mama arrives. Lol. She needs to grow into those big ears and feet. Now- can a shepherd be trained to track deer? Lol
  12. This is what happens when your wife leaves 2 kids and 1 very big kid alone for a week while she visits family out of the country. Sweetest little shepherd pup though. Seems much smarter than my bullmastiff was at 12 weeks too. Maybe my wife won't notice. Lol
  13. Great beginner bow being reasonably inexpensive and fully adjustable in weight and draw length without a press. All the things that Doc pointed out are the reasons why this bow is good for beginners, it can be adjusted at any time.
  14. The thumb releases can still be shot with back tension, but allows you the option to punch if needed. That is what I was using and its not hard to learn back tension. rest thumb lightly on trigger AFTER you are anchored and then when you start to pull further, your thumb will automatically press the trigger. Truly a surprise shot, which is what you want. All that said, I still thought the wrist strap would be easier to maneuver in less that ideal shots.
  15. It will alter your current anchor. I tried one for a while and was very accurate with it for target practice, using back tension to trigger the release. It was fun and really teaches to pull through the shot. BUT, I could not switch back and forth to a wrist strap with consistency and I didn't want to have to punch the trigger on the t-handle at the moment of truth in the stand. I kept think about twisting around a tree, under branches, etc. and could not imagine doing that with the t-handle. For me, I gave up a small amount of accuracy for what I think will be more reliable under hunting circumstances. I could be wrong though and it may have worked out just fine.
  16. I bought something like this at the hunting show in PA last year for $20. Tried it there and I can see the utility if you plan to sit the ground. Pretty comfortable and takes 30 seconds to set up. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Sit-Drag-Special-Compact-Portable-HUNTING-TREE-SEAT-Deer-Stand-Sling-Drag-/110966876819
  17. Interesting how 8T has the largest anticipated buck take this year, but was low in does and bucks last year. Wonder how they determine that. "nobody shot anything last year so they are still around" theory?
  18. Pretty cool. I have seen moose do that on TV but never a whitetail.
  19. Threads move as new posts are made pushing the threads with newest posts to the top. To find yours, I just went to your profile and looked under your posts and you can click on the thread there.

  21. I do my best. Of course, if he kills a bruiser, we can throw it in my truck and I can pretend, for a while anyways.
  22. Since I have a carpeted bed sissy truck that I don't want to dirty, I throw my deer in Phade's truck. I enjoy the benefit of a clean truck and Phade can pretend that he actually killed a deer. Symbiotic relationship at its finest.
  23. Congrats Grizz. Looks like a very successful trip.
