  1. I doubt my shooting distances will change. Too thick where we hunt, but it will be nice to bring those rifles out for a change.
  2. IMHO - one can be proud due to association. For example, I am proud of my children, not because of my accomplishments in having/raising them, but because I am associated with them. Under this definition, I am proud to be associated with the Rochester, NY area. Great area to raise a family, good schools, lots of nice people, reasonably economically sound and the natural environment is superb (lakes, mountains, etc.). I am not proud to be associated with some of the silly laws of this State and the ridiculous taxes/unsound finances of the state. So, I guess I am a proud NYer in some respects.
  3. I guess the same logic could be applied regarding your status as a citizen of the US. Not sure I agree that you can't be proud of your homeland, be it country or state. IMHO, both NY and the US need change.
  4. Don't want to speak for the OP, but he PMed me earlier this week and said he was doing exactly what Belo mentioned. Patience is a good thing.
  5. I don't know why I find every iteration of this video amusing.
  6. You might want to bring something bigger than that .243 with all that bear activity we had last year - still have no idea what did that to the corn, but considering that a bear was seen in Chili last week, you could have been right. Never got to a vote last year, so I hope the first year not being passed trend is broken.
  7. I have a Sako 270 that will see some time if the leg is passed. Great caliber. A couple of 308s and a 30/30 that would be in the mix too, plus a 250-3000 soon. I hope I have the opportunity to decide which one goes that day. Law, do you hunt Livingston?
  8. LOL - I have plenty of rifles Doc. I became interested in hunting because I liked shooting first. Now I just need a place to hunt with them. Hopefully this year. The savage 220 and TC MZ will continue their use in Monroe County. Fingers crossed that I can finally get some of those rifles a little dirty.
  9. Just updating my own thread. Here is the latest from Assemblyman Nojay: Dear Brian: Thank you for your email regarding the ability for citizens living in Livingston County to hunt deer with rifles. The Livingston County Board of Supervisors passed a law on June 12, 2013 to allow hunters the ability to use rifles to hunt big game in the county. The law then needed to be approved by lawmakers in Albany before rifle hunting would be permitted in Livingston County. Because the adoption of the rifle law did not pass the Livingston County Board of Supervisors until June, 2013, this left the New York State Legislative body little time to act on the rifle legislation before the session in Albany ended on June 21, 2013. Here is a status of the Rifle Legislation: Senate Bill S.5855 permitting rifle hunting in Livingston County is sponsored by Senators Cathy Young and Patrick Gallivan. The Assembly companion Bill is A.8157, for which I have sponsored. I have been assured that this legislation is supposed to come to the floor for a vote in both houses this legislative session. Form all indicators, I think the legislation to allow rifle hunting in Livingston County will pass Thank you again for contacting me. Sincerely,
  10. Good luck Grizz. Kudu are beautiful animals. Hope you nail a dandy.
  11. Response from the clerk of the BoS of Livingston Co.: "It has been proposed again and I believe it is under review in both houses."
  12. At machinists advice, I went with the Magnum blend and jellyhead choke. They do pattern great. Can't attest to how well they kill turkey as I have yet to shoot at one, but they sure look deadly. lol
  13. I sent emails to the Board of Supervisors and Nojay that introduced the bill at the state level. I encourage all hunters in Livingston County to do the same.
  14. Thanks Mac. I was looking at the ventana as an option. I figured you can't go too wrong with leupold. Easy to see .22s at 100yds?
  15. Not looking to break the bank, but want something I can clearly see small caliber holes at 100yds at the range. Any suggestions based on experience are much appreciated. Thinking $300 or less if possible. Being compact would be a plus. Thanks
  16. Tough to beat the slick tricks. They are sharp and just work. NEVERMIND - just realized the OP was only asking about mechanicals.
  17. Congrats. That thing looks like fun. My cousin has a razor and it will go through almost anything. Enjoy it.
  18. Are cynthiafu and NEWBIEHUNTER one in the same?
  19. I had one bow (bowtech insanity) that preferred a rear stabilizer and no front. By contrast, I have a 12" b-stinger with 3oz on my GT-500 and no rear. I think it takes trial and error to determine what set up slows that float down the most. My pulse is fine with an 8" DCAP stab and some weight up front.
  20. Phade - cancel the plans for that cougar hunt in Delaware Co. Refocus on Sasquatch!
