  1. I need to get me some then
  2. This was the program I was refering too. Transgenetics is really where I see the sucess of repopulating the american chestnut coming from
  3. Only reason id ever use a shotgun for deer is becaused im being forced to. Rifles are better in pretty much every way. Glad I hunt a county where rifles are allowed
  4. Congrats bud!! That blackhorn is the way to go it seems
  5. Ill be trying it out during the long island gun season and ill definitely be making a ton of mistakes
  6. Great thread! Id love to try this next year during the muzzleloader season. Ive already had so many questions answered and the ones I havent had answered i think can only be answered with experience
  7. I cant lie, I use that word all the time lol. But I get what you're saying. I remember seeing that photo on the page. Just look at how they treat people when they find tree stands at "their" public ground spot
  8. It really is. You cant do anything good on that group unless you post a doe or a giant buck
  9. Im on that page as well...those guys make me laugh. Unless a doe is shot or a big buck, theres always someone complaining. The whole thing with stands makes me laugh too. I must have missed the post though
  10. This is slightly different than what I was talking about. This is a back breeding program that will hopefully result in a tree thats 15/16ths american chestnut. The process that I think will result in a better product is a lot more complicated than this. Look up suny esf chestnut program
  11. I havent kept up with it lately, but i think theyre pretty good. Look into them and let me know if you get some through there
  12. Might want to look into american chestnuts. Theyve done a lot of work with them at SUNY ESF and theyve come up with blight resistant american chestnuts so you might be able to get some from there
  13. Theres always going to be bucks shedding this time of year. Usually its due to some type of injury
  14. Im in the same boat as you chef, im going to switch to blackhorn after this season. Although I might not even be able to go out for the muzzeloader season upstate so maybe Ill just ask a friend to buy it for me so i can use that for the long island season. Its a pain to find blackhorn and im not paying 30 bucks in shipping for it either
  15. Anyone know what they got around newburgh?
  16. I pray that NYC looses big. I hate the gun laws we have down here
  17. There is a lull. Lull doesnt mean that it shuts down completely, just slows down. Obviously we all know this happens around the end of november and then ramps up again for what we call the second rut. There is definitely a second peak...look at the biology. Even you admit to a lessening, so when the does recycle they cause a second peak. Not as big as the first, but a second none the less
  18. Definitely not nonsence. Its a combination of does that werent bred as well as doe fawns that have reached the proper weight. Im sure many doe fawns will reach that weight this year with the prevalance of acorns this year
  19. Its real. Ive killed 2 bucks on december 5th and both were on does. The one in 09 still is my biggest buck and was chasing a group of doe and the one i got a year later was following a doe as well
  20. Going with a nikon probably. Going to order that on prime
  21. Just ordered my muzzeloader from gander. CVA Accura V2 for 300. Cant complain at all with that price
