The first buck I ever killed back in '80s came into some Tinks 69 on Cotten balls in a film canister . The years after I must have used gallon with no luck . Today I've used EverCalm and had young bucks come in and lick it , but I'd recommend putting it in a scent wick and talking that when you leave . here's first deer via Tinks

One would have to be pretty stupid to get caught , honestly . Dec fines are lIke parking tickets , I'll pay the $75 for a great parking spot . But I just toss an old parking ticket under the wiper , and never get a new one ......

A handicap crossbow permit ? So,today at the supply depo I run into a BC I know who's a fellow Hunter . I tell him my shoulders are now so,bad I can't draw my bow , to which he says his neighbor got a DRs note and can crossbow hunt all of bow . Well I can't find that online only " modified crossbow " which says if you can pull a rifle trigger you don't qualify. The restrictions are so limiting almost nobody would qualify , so is there such a thing for a guy like me ? My orthopedic will state two impinged shoulders , frozen shoulder and bone spurs , can't draw a bow . Thanks

The good news is we have a bunch of law abiding hunters arguing about poorly written laws. The bad news is the poachers would be laughing at this thread , they know they can break all the laws for years with little chance of ever getting caught, then pay a couple hundred in fines and be back at it , if they are ever caught . Ive had the DEC break my balls because I spelled Canandaigua wrong , X off the date in ink instead of cut it out ( which as legal ) and watched them ticket my buddy for taking sunfish off his little daughters hook , because he did not have a fishing Lic. Now mind you he did not have a pole of his own either just putting on worms and talking off sunnies for a little kid . meanwhile the true law breakers could give a crap .

Myself I feel we should transport in the open and hang them from trees in our front yards . No reason to,hide our deer like its child porn or something ! Ive had kids get off the bus and come over to look and ask questions about the deer . We hunters come and go in the dark and many of our neighbors may never even know we're hunters ! Be a good ambassador to,our sport for sure but show others that that good guy up,the street is a hunter ! Heres how mine get transported .

From what I heard from folks in the know , something happened between the dog and a hunter. Now since the dog was off leash and the owner may not have witnessed it, that may have lead to speculation . Someone mentioned a guy field dressing a deer, so it's possible the dog ran up was a bother and the guy swatted it with an arrow . I also know they feel the hunter involved was not part of the program . Something happend and look for changes in the program next year because of it . Any one want to put some $$$ on that ?

Not saying right or wrong . But been killing deer with a bow since the late ‘80s . I feel a new bow hunter is better off spooking a doe or two early on , so he learns when to move on the big buck later on . You should stand as much as possible , you should have your bow IN YOUR HAND, you should be ready to draw when any deer comes by , as what you want may be next . i think many who “ get busted drawing “ really get busted standing and reaching for the bow . If you’re standing raise the bow the bow in front of you as soon as you see deer , release clipped on, it’s very little movement to draw from that point . Honestly how does pulling one arm straight back idk 15 inches equal a lot of movement ?

In gun season you sure can , in bow you can't possess any firearm while bow hunting . That's the issue its clearly written you can't carry a gun while bow hunitng in bow season . There doesn't seem to be any written law regarding Xbow , although I tend to agree that it would make sense . I know a couple Econ officers I'd ask them but I know from past experience , diferant guys say different things , and the ones on the East end of the state are really messed up . We debated walking in / out with loaded guns in the dark ,in deer season my guy said sure no problem , others asked Econs in their area who said no ....... I also, had one tell me I had to cut out the dates on my tag, I had " X " them in ink . The rule book said either are ok .

For those who, wonder where he's been , all is well . He sent me some pics of his bow kill , which he said jokingly ," he had to,lower his standards for " lol . He came here as a new Hunter and proceeded to kill slob bucks , the first I believe was with like the third or fourth in slug he ever fired in his life . Anywho he's doing fine killed a great buck , and is awaiting the gun season .

Do it often . Best way to,learn when and how to move and draw . . Sure if there are a few deer I won't because it's to,hard to watch them all at the same time , same as if one has a idea somethings up . Dont recall the last time I got busted drawing on a deer I wanted to,shoot . Noisy stands, squeaky boots, scent, moving when I did not see the deer, all have busted me, don't know if drawing ever did

I agree Dave, my knife should be able to dress game, cut down saplings, spilt kindling , help, with shelter building and many more . Most of all,it should build memories of decades of use and adventures. I have one that dressed my first buck ( and many more ) canoed the Yukon and many more rivers , was on my belt on about 100k of motorcycle miles. Sorry no plastic change a blade thingie has that soul or ability .

So true Larry !

ATbuckhunter, I believe worksharp puts on a convex edge , which means you’ll be changing the type of edge on most knives . Many touch up convex on a mouse pad with Emory cloth on top . Rounding a tip can happen with most systems , try not to pull it all the way to the end , it happens when tip “ slips “ off . Ill do some research when I get out of the hot tub to find you what you’er looking for .

Aw holds an edge and sharpens easy ...... Generally one can have one or the other , remember , edge degree , profile , primary and secondary bevels as well as heat treat all play a role on how easy it is to sharpen as well cut . Aus 8 is a fine basic steel that has fallen a bit in popularity of late. D2 is a tool steel it'll hold an edge a long time , but may require aggressive stones and time to resharpen . VG 10 , is one of my favorite steels , now it was developed for botanical use, it has a fine grain structure and is used for grafting plants as it doesn't crush the cells . I don't have trouble sharpening it either . s30v is asl one of my favorites . Most companies will resharpen for free or return shipping

I have in the past , marked 30 and 20 . Then I stopped never shot at a deer at 30 and frankly my average shot is closer to 15- 20 . Never owned a range finder either .

Just bought a crossbow ! TenPoint , the heads they sold me were ,Wasp Jak-x 3 blade mechanicals . I guess I have to trust them at this point . Bow shoots 340 fps , if that matters . non typical , same here 29 years of killing deer with fixed cut on contact , we'll see .

Me too , it's a joke , just like Biz talking about 200 yards shots with it . 747 . in 30 years my longest shot was 25 yards once . Most are 15 ish with the Xbow I may shoot 40 .

Just got up about to drop the first pot . Good day to get a little tan back , good luck to you guys in the woods .

Since I'm New to this weapon , I'll keep my shots this year to 100 yards max , unless it's really big .
