Yea, I would def put it in a lane.
-
Haha hey, do what you gotta do. I have dropped it anywhere from 200-500 yrds from my stand. Maybe furthe. I have no idea when those bucks picked up the scent, but they could have been trailing it from the point I dropped it. I figure if they cross it and like it, they might follow it.

I would drag that thing right down the highline, then duck into the woods and drag it to my stand. Once there, hang it on a limb to let the breeze blow it around real good. Worked every time. I even went off the beaten path, zig-zagged through the briers trying to find my stand. He followed that trail all the way in.

I know a lady that uses it. Hasn't really seemed to help her. I think they will come in nice and slow regardless if you are doing all the right things.

I say use the doe estrous. Last year I had the little ones fired up early with the scent drag. I used it only a few times to "test it out", and every time I used it I had a buck come in with his nose to the ground. Little ones but hey, seein a buck is seein a buck.

I have to work all weekend.... 8 days off though, starting Monday!
-
No way. Go in and hang the stand. Let it rest a few days and you will be good. That, or invest in a climber. Hunt wherever you want.

I shot a rabbit with my bow once. Sqeeled like crazy.

Hey! that's the buck I had on trail cam! Haha congrats to him. That's a knarly buck! -
I've always heard to aim for the heart. A little bit lower of a shot. That way if they duck, still hit them in the lungs.

I didn't even get to take the treestand off my back...

Wooo I'm off work Friday, Saturday and Sunday! Hope I get a chance of my scrape buck.
-
Is your face covered? It may look like a paper plate looking at them. If covered, than idk lol.

I agree with what is stated above. About the tree stand dilemma, will he let you use a climber? I don't know if I could stand to bow hunt from the ground.
-
I plan on doing that this weekend then! I hope he comes out again. Every time I saw him pre season it was going in or coming out of that bedding area.
-
I was up wind from him though. approx. 170 yards out. Therefore he was downwind of me.
-
I believe he is the same buck I had on trail cam last year. Bigger now. When I grunted at him he hauled ass right to that scrape from probably 60 yards out in the field. I believe he is popping out of the bedding area on the opposite side of the field. Cross wind from his right to left.

So last night I went out on an evening sit. I didn't see one deer so I decided to check the field before the sun went over the horizon. I walked to the top of the hill in my field, still hugging the treeline and spotted the nice buck I have been watching this year. (3 1/2 yr old tall 8 . He was crossing the middle of the field. I am new to calling, so I tried a couple contact grunts. He lifted his head and looked up the hill, then immediately trotted to an apple tree that had a nice sized scrape under. I noticed the scrape before but figured he was visiting it at night. He started rubbing his horns and head in the branches and doing his thing. Then stepped out 15 yards from the treeline and looked up the hill at me. I think I got him fired up pretty good and it was awesome to watch. My question is how long do these bucks visit these scrapes? Should I sit over it as early as this weekend? If so I need to clear out some lanes for my climber. Any advice for this situation would be appreciated.

Went out this morning... In Rockland County

That makes for a long sit in the dark. But if you're in there early enough they might hang around until the sun comes up. And really, that doesn't sound like a horrible morning sit. Better than seeing nothing. Be patient, they will come. -
Hunt apples while they're around if you got em.
-
Sounds like you need some smaller pins lol. As for the misses. I have a buddy of mine that has missed three times. He is beyond frustrated but hey, that's why they call it hunting, not killing. You''ll knock one down eventually. Be patient and calm.

Happened to my uncle last year. During gun season in the middle of a snow storm. He was hanging out on the top rail for an hour and a half. I had to find him in the dark and save him with another climber. His legs were pretty numb by that point.
