  7. It was a example of hanging and aging ..
  8. This may help .. http://mwoutdoors.com/how-long-should-i-let-my-deer-hang-aging-vension/
  9. Was able to get out tonight had a flock of turkeys and a button buck in the crosshairs at 40 yards but just couldn't pull the trigger. Congrats on those who got deer today !!!!
  10. This is one mans humbled opinion after many years in the woods and reading.. It seems to be a proven fact that the majority of breeding takes place Nov 15th and varies little year to year, weather plays s part on how active we think the deer are but the breeding goes on regardless.. This is backed up by studies of conception of thousands of does sand years of reasearch .. My personal observation over the years is the first week is simply the best time to hunt then the deer hit a wall and shut down, then about a week later things seem to pick back up with feeding on the agenda but rarely encounter big bucks mostly 1 1/2s and does .. Also keep in mind the date of opening day changes every year, next year it will fall on the 18th a day earlier than this year.. I have never understood the thought process of the DEC as gun season is supposed to in the heart of the rut and is actually the tail end then over.. I have always wished gun season opened a week earlier and closed a week earlier.. Just my perspective and two beans..
  11. We got a nor'easter here on that Sunday night plus we got the wrap around lake affect snow so we got a double the dose here in Central New York , I actually had opening week off and I went back to work Monday and Tuesday because there was so much wet snow on the trees I couldn't even hunt because the visibility was so low in the woods from everything being bent over and snow covered,, one in the worst opening weeks in history for me with 68 degree temps on Saturday to a blizzard on Monday night..
  12. This is the information I received if it false then one got on me wasn't trying to decieve anyone
  13. This was my back deck on Monday night after opening day !!
  14. Ok,,, so I just called to report my deer kill, so if you were to use your crossbow during regular season and harvest a deer, there is no category to choose for that weapon used.. Only choices are rifle shot gun / bow / muzzleloader ??? So seeing you need muzzleloader license to crossbow hunt I would guess,, choose muzzleloader as weapon ?? You would think the state would figure this stuff out .. I'm just curious but I can't be the only idiot to think of this ..
  15. My friend sent me this it's a good friend of his, he went to his treestand at 2:00pm that day ouch!!! that hurts.. This is Skaneateles lake area...
  16. It seems that most of the states that have trophy buck hunting have a different style hunting season,, mostly with a very short gun season only a week and a short muzzleloading season and some a one buck per year limit.. Im not going to lie,,, I like the two buck limit here in NY and I would have little motivation to hunt if it was doe only,,, but feel no need to fill the paper trail of tags that are carelessly given out by the DEC in my opinion.
  17. Definitely good job TF.... I've been noticing you were like a rock out there..... Very motivating, whoever may say hunting isn't hard work has never put in the time,,, it takes a mental and physical toll on you and to motivate youself when you are just plain exhausted ... Good for you !!
  18. Well I got it done last night decided I was going to go to the back corner of the field and sit on the ground, well about 150 yards to my destination I see a deer already on the edge of the field and wood line feeding,, I slowly close the distance hiding behind tress and waiting and planning foot steps as he puts his head down to feed,, I close the gap to around 60 yards and notice their are 6 turkeys working there way past and into the woods, thinking I gotta move quick or they are going to blow my cover, I was on the left of the tree but couldn't get a clear shot, so I quickly move to the other side and he is quarting to me so I gave him the Hornday SSTs and he drop in his tracks ,,, ahhhhhhh what a relief sorry about the pics by the time I got back to the truck and my son arrived it was getting dark ..
  19. Well we didn't see anything tonight but or other hunting partner took a small that my son passed during bow and me with the gun,, the "good news" he shot it about 3:45 so he already had it to the truck by the time we got out of the woods and only had to help him get it into the truck This is what he looked like upright ... or sideways ...
  20. Me and my son got the top of the hill covered,,, dead quiet....,
