So Last Saturday me and my boy go to our spot where I've been chasing this guy around that has been rubbing trees like crazy in front of my stand for three weeks ..The plan was to stay until 9:30 10:00 o'clock for some reason it was colder than normal maybe it was the wind but, we both were freezing even with hand warmers, earlier in the week I went out and bought a trail cam and set it up Saturday morning to try and catch the guy making the rubs.. we'll not only did I but he showed up at 9:20 right after we left and was 25 yards in front of my stand ,, I'm hoping to meet up with him on Saturday, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday as I will be doing all day sits unless he complies.. Sorry about the pics I took pictures off my sons laptoonas he is the only way I can view the card at the moment ..

2016 HuntingNY Crossbow Harvest thread
Bowshotmuzzleloader replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in CrossBow Hunting
I decided after a long season of spikes and only one encounter with a mature buck that hung up on me and didn't allow me a shot. That I was going to fill my tag so this buck came by this morning at around 7:05 and it was game on, he came into my grunt call then got hung up with my scent wick and was going to go the other way and I grunted again at thirty yards and he swayed and offered me a shot ,, he ran 50 yards and dropped within sight ..- 14 replies

This is the one I have it's works great,,, just shoot into soft ground. I shoot down from my tree stand and retrieve when I get down,, I have two other spots where I walk out and shoot into a soft dirt bank, if the grounds hard it can break the de cocking arrow or go flying which can be dangerous.

Well I haven't taken a deer this year yet with my bow, although I've had the opportunity to take 4 young bucks that I passed on and 2 does and last night I almost had the opportunity to close the deal on a 2 1/2 or older buck with two does but hung up for 20 minutes not giving me a shot if only if he stopped 15'more I would of had a great shot,, oh well it was a great hunt none the less.. I'm going to continue the rest of the season with the controversial crossbow and see if I can close the deal on a decent buck .. I'm looking forward to this weekend and really hoping my son closes the deal on a buck he's really putting the time and effort in...

Half mile !!!!!! Holy cow deer are on crack now too. Half mile with that shot .... I'm giving up bow hunting .... Dang super deer ....

Im just curious how many yards did this deer go? That shot is a kill shot for sure and the trajectory looks flat almost no angle, the broken arrow is from the leg coming back pretty common,, that deer shouldn't of gone more than 200 yards with a hole straight though the bred basket.. Glad you got him just saying ,, beautiful rack ..

Sure looks like it was hot by a car those horns don't look cut off to me ,, broke offf...

What happened to the Xbow inclusion thread?

These are not miracle weapons you still have to have a deer in front of you and make a good shot.. They may be easier than a compound because you don't have to draw back but using a crossbow isn't shooting fish in a barrel for most hunters,, the experienced bow hunters with years of bowhunting will be far more proficient with the crossbow,, you still have to be a good woodsmen to kill a deer with a crossbow,, shot placement, knowing where you hit the animal before you proceed tracking . This great state of our is very diverse as far a deer population,, I hunt property as close as 2 miles to 30 miles from my house and they vary tremendously as far as deer density and population, I also know people who go entire seasons without shooting a deer and know people that can shoot one doe and be completely satisfied for a season,, my point is work, family and life gets in the way for a lot of hunters cutting down there time or opportunity to be in the woods, I'm just not convinced full inclusion will decimate the deer population like people are thinking at least it won't where I'm hunting or my fellow hunters I hunt with in my area... -
Personally any 2 1/2 year old is fair game and gets no pass anywhere I hunt,, everyone has different property's and expectations, those posted bucks are some nice bucks IMO good on you guys ..

My son and I,,, since Saturday with three morning hunts and one evening in 7J saw a total of 8 different 1.5 year old bucks and not one doe scrapes and rubs showing up daily.. This one is 70 yards in front of my stand and another two about half the size of this cedar within 30 yards .. Needless to say I can't wait for next weekend ..

I always wear a green Carhart knit cap with my neoprene face mask underneath with the white Carhart emblem at the back of my head.. Two years ago bow season I climb in my stand overlooking my little meadow and just as that moment when it goes from dark to kinda being able to see I have this owl fly about five feet in front of my tree stand and land in the tree behind me so I'm checking out this owl thinking this is a pretty cool morning already I don't see to many owls around my area and he sits there for a couple of minutes and I kept looking forward and back to see if he's still there and as I turn he flys away,,, maybe a minute or two pass and the next thing I know the owl hits me full speed,, dive bomb style in the back of my head, my hat covers my eyes and I'm thinking the devil just came to take me and this was how my life was going to end,, what the heck could be in a tree and hit like a back hand in the back of the head like that,,, at that moment I realized what was going on when the wings started flapping around me head as he started to fly off,,, at that point I was pulling my hat off ready to fight,,, let's just say the rest of the morning I spent looking over my shoulder for this owl making sure he wouldn't dive bomb me again,,, that's why I'm not so fond of owls anymore and all I can figure is he thought that Carhart tag was some type of food and thankfully I wast hurt other than my pride ..

Nothing from my stand 7J my boy passes on a spike ,, I'm impressed as he's only shot one buck with his bow ,,, as I'm writing this a flock of a thousand black birds flew over and bumped a one side Clyde past me ..
-
Yes always nice to have some action,,,, sounds like you had some also good luck in the am,, I will also be in the same stand,, it took me ten years to figure out that property and that spot always gives me an opportunity at a nice buck ...

My point was how can an entire thread be dumped and no explanation given,,, seems a bit unfair !! -
