  1. The deck is on and the light boards camo painted...some trimming done ..all I have to do is one small end piece and place the blind on it...I found a new rub on a ironwood sapling 30 ft behind it today,,,and fresh droppings..I listened to turkeys talking not far away as I hammered down boards... So there's my project for the season. I now have 4 tower blinds..with this one being for pop ups... Blends in well I think....
  2. reminded me of an old commercial...lol
  3. That island looks like a perfect buck bedding area...just enough elevation to see around while bedded in a swampy area. Gun...it's the wind and when situation ,one you need to know the day of the hunt the other ahead of time . Be careful having a cam that close...checking it could cost you a good area if it's a mature buck not use to people. Back up the trail and set it well off it so your scent is well away, but so you can. get a good shot. Any way to glass it from a distance? Higher terrain near by,or an open field they may cross? I see deer here bed a while after dark,a bit after day light and then get up between 10-2. During the rut..it's a guessing game, doe and their noses dictate movements. Good Luck
  4. Depends...you have to know what to do at the moment and your abilities. I've shot many a deer on a slow gate forward. Most have taken a jump stopped to look around and dropped. This is because they had no idea what had hit them. They get hit by branches all the time and hear strange noises. Doc is right an alert deer will often set the drop and not only that but run like hell at the hit. Running in our area is a bad thing.
  5. You haven't mentioned an area...
  6. A garden array..stuffed peppers with a chicken rice, diced tomato stuffing, with fresh garlic, oregano, and basil. Corn on the cob, green beans ,and baby beets.
  7. Cory how big an area? can't figure seeding rates when the area isn't known
  8. That looks like a very big buck Thorn. Our camps covered in them Nasty nasty tree.
  9. We get them in our white spruce...
  10. Leveled and plummed with ease. Finished joist and one deck plank. Then went and got the ladder, perfect fit.
  11. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/31111.html http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/24442.html
  12. here are some pics in for lunch I have the rest of joist to do and bracing, then the decking..but need to get the level out there and adjust things...great spot...should be fun this season...definitely better shoot ops...with a bit of trimming.
  13. Rebel...the fact it drop its leafs when it did shores up what I suspect..especially with the weather this year.. if the leafs have a yellowing and brown spotting it is most like one or even both these problems , Apple scab and Apple rust. .both fungal diseases...look them up and spray accordingly. Use the dormant oil and do the winter pruning...but cleans the equipment before touching any other trees. Rake and remove all leaf litter under that tree before spring then do a surface liming under it late winter when ground permits
  14. That is an unmistakable sentence..I love it TF...movie(original) freaked me out! I have on dvd.
  15. Tractor supply has their fall potted fruit trees in ..good caliper,6 ft.applespeaches,pears...23.99
  16. Well the frame is up and boxed in around the lower mid section...I need to get the step ladder out there so I can secure the short end pieces and then level her up some before starting the joist...dang what a battle that was... I did discover a use for the green13 ft road sign steel posts Mr B brought home for me...They are the perfect diagonal for the long side to stabilize back /forward movement... and they have holes already in them the whole length. I can bolt them to the top corner and the opposite bottom corner legs...Geez they have only been hanging around for years...
  17. Looking great...I have to say I am surprised and worried...They are hitting my turnips hard as well and we are loaded with other foods..apples and tons of acorns everywhere ... But the other thing I noticed today while scanning the area on my walk...All these years and I have NEVER seen a pine cone production like I am seeing now, also the maple and hophorn seed production is crazy the branches are actually bending down with all the maple whirlies.... I'm thinking we could have snow before Oct. Go back and look at the pins along my line and then the taller Norway on the neighbors behind them...that tan and light green...all pine cones
  18. I mentioned either last year or in the spring I was going to concentrate more on the turkey habitat...opening up the oaks(secure roosting limbs)...and adding much more grain/clovers/alfalfa to the mix ,,,I'm thinking..it's working There is the "frog" nursery tub just feet from this and another watering tub 40 yrds and 100yrds from this..the turkey use these water holes a lot
  19. are bug drives...notice "Mom", that's my stand she is looking at. Now this is an area you guys have seen a lot of pics from...I didn't get a chance to fix this plot because well it's growing Burnett and everything loves the Burnett..this sparse mossy area is the most active cam I have...does help the oaks are dropping as well..
  20. Is that a recent picture? if so...I'm thinking your right...with out seeing it in person all I could suggest is once it's dormant...November or December Go in and top it take out the lower branches as well hit it with dormant oil and burn what you cut... If it sends out new growth in the spring immediately hit it with a fungus and bug spray... Also lay down grub killer...
  21. Home made chicken veggie soup with chicken salad sandwiches(made with a avacado verde dressing)
