I just found more seed...another bag of turnips and at least 5 #'s of rye...I have a spot under an OaK tree that is refusing to grow anything this year...I don't know why..The oak is dropping great acorns..... grew great last year and it gets 12 til 4 sun it's been limed 2x's this year and fertilized.even weeds aren't growing...so seeing I have a plot growing in the bed of the gator in rye...I throw that rye down tomorrow...lol

Memory cards are cheap at Wally World

TF Sams Club has 2 for 19+...but I'm not sure I like them I just used points to get 3 8 for 24 on Amazon. they seem to be working well. -
Let me take that back...8ft is a tower...lol I assembled the 6ft sides and no the legs are not 4x4 they are 6x4 and heavy...I squared up the top rail and the middle leg spacer/support.. then had to lift the first one up to flip it over and make room to assemble the second one...OMG That was heavy awkward and I honestly not sure how I did it. I will take my remaining 2 x 4 x10 ft boards out tomorrow and tack them to the legs... these will be my "jacks'' to hold the sides up so I can get them into position and nail in the end rails and leg spacer/ supports.. The rails for the 2x4 joist are in place so nailing those in will be easy...I'm a 1/4 of the way done already I may need the Gator and the winch to help me get those sides u and in place...but no biggy she fits right in the area.

love strange racks...one year I had a buck that had what looked like a huge version of Jesus's thorny crown above his head..It was literally a halo of points sticking everywhere and nearly round...I was getting out of the truck and he stepped out onto the road ,15ft in front of me he was a big big deer and stood looking at me..I said get your arse across the road before someone shoots you...and that's what he did ...crossed right over to our place...though that particular parcel wasn't ours yet. Never saw him again but won't forget him.

Well today I finally ripped the wood for the popup tower....actually platform...it will be 8ft to the deck and 6ft by a bit over 5ft...It took 15 mins to rip the wood...I'm not use to working with such small pieces... The side rails are 2x8 and the end 2x4's like the joist..... With the legs being 4x4 I didn't need a deeper width for stability on the ends...The side rails I put in "cleats" to support the joist from underneath and facilitate my nailing them into place by my self. Thus needing a bit more room.I have some of the decking but need a couple of more pieces and I have a 16 ft wooden extension ladder I took out of commission... but with it not extended the rungs are doubled...so I will use it this year ...Because it is for popups I will be able to move it with the tractor forks or have the guys help me if I want a different spot any given year...I have 2x2 thAT WILL BE SCREWED OVER THE SKIRTING TO CLAMP THE BLIND DOWN......wELL LUNCH AND SOME CHORES ARE DONE SO OFF i GO TO DELIVER THE WOOD TO THE SITE BEFORE HEADING OUT ON ERRANDS... oppsss damn cap lock...lol I can't wait to get it done, this is such a good spot...but the blind limited my views due to the terrain. It's at the end of the ridge and above and south of the Oak flats...actually right where the oaks begin. I'm putting it in a giant maple down fall that's 10 years old...one corner will have the 9ft high stump remains, so it will be well hidden as the blind is now...

Mr B. and I took a back road drive Monday up in and around the turbines. We came across a big sign that announced a hunting club...I can't recall the name ,but it had a dedication sign as well. Curious anyone here a member?

Wow just saw video of it hitting the islands.. Nasty!!

Lol .....not me but to be honest .. I could see myself getting pizzed enough to do that...Kudo's to her! Thanks Paula. Out of likes

Other than avoiding fly infestation. Farmers plant grains in Sept to avoid too much growth before winter..so colder temps slow growth.
-
So sorry to hear that and all hopes and prayers to a good outcome and recovery are sent your way.

When its cold I put warm water in my camel pack and wear it under my outer wear...keeps me warm as I drink and keeps my back warm against the cold tree.

Just water....tea and coffee are diuretics...not good for a female hunter

No actually I find you to be a petty little boy...an honest opinion...remember I avoid your post, you initiate conflict....BTW Thank you TF...

The friend who lets me hunt his 8M land is in Melbourne ...he's been hit a couple of times...

I have both...It really doesn't matter for me because they bed in the garden at the end of drive...my only access to our property across the street and they bed ether next to the dog kennel or just a tad farther into the woods behind the house...my only access to the hunting there. ..When I walk the middle of the road to get down to lower properties...they are bedded along the culvert ditches...It's laughable..but I do have one stand 30 yrds from the road and I love it I catch the deer crossing back and forth on our place and then from us to the neighbor. If your bow hunting consider where they will run...and if you can go get them. if it's not a problem hunt just off the culvert ditch if that's where they are...I also have a ground blind 50 feet from the road on my drive...That by the way, 20 mins ago a bear ran past...15 mins after I walked down the drive.

BTW this theory is easy to test...send a family member out a ways in the yard when it's very dark...have them turn off the light and move one side or the other from where you last spotted them. Then turn the light on looking up and at a distance from them to see where they are going. Then tell them to look down at the ground as they walk...that way you can basically see what the deer do.

So the maintenance engineer was throwing away this in the dumpster. Mr B grabbed it before he did...he says I thought you'd find a use for it's it look brand new....Well of course one would think the laundry room...me.... not so much....

I have thought a lot about lights and there effect ..I actually think it's more of lighting up your figure...which is what we end up doing trying to see our trail and feet, then having a light beam going straight out in front of you and not moving it around scanning... I say this because lights in the woods are kinda like sound..it travels funny...I have seen car lights across the valley...I mean miles away and actually in the nearest town 9 miles away and thought they were in my woods...We have a person with a horse barn over a half mile away and that barn light shines just right, I swear it looks like it lights up my woods...So deer are use to seeing white and red(tail lights) shining in their woods...but not the figures it may surround nor a lot of bouncing around..if it's held high to see a distance in front of you your figure is less likely to stick out.

Never said I was an expert...For one thing when dealing with living beings...I don't care who you are, your NEVER an expert.... Everything is changing with living things...adapting evolving from animals to land. The links were to prove a point...BTW I left out weed whackers and chain saws in that last post I had a neighbor bring a chainsaw to his stand...yep nice quiet fall morning and every 15-20 mins he'd crank that saw up for less than 30 seconds...I about flipped...but ya know he probably got a deer...lol

Your right and more than a few times I have sat down after killing a deer and think...wow I never even felt the draw...There really doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason why ones brain fails them..but when it does the message is to shut down muscle control....It's like with a severe fright and you can't scream... Startle me and I can rip a yelp that they could hear in Geneseo...but scare me and I have had my vocals shut down... The bear at camp...I knew the danger and my mind was thinking clearly...jump in truck ...go for camp door...and there I stood with him going around to the back of the truck..It wasn't until I saw him walking away from me that I could move my very planted feet....I go through a routine in my mind for buck fever...Don't grip the bow, BREATH, and this is your only shot stupid...this is what I think and I refuse to do more than glance at the rack...it's all shoulderI want nothing to do with looking at the head...shoulder and body

Well monkey see monkey do..LOL I was clearing trails years before it got popular...because I knew the benefits to it...and that was before all the injuries..Deer travel the path of least resistance and they love a cleared trail. I don't personally like the noise either...but I don't like dirt bikes and people who are obsessed with non stop lawn mowing , loud mufflers, back up horns and jake brakes...but that's life and unless one is hunting in the deep woods Daks or Catskills...you'll get that...Noise travels..OH I almost for got...hords or cow birds or starlings and airplanes... I have owned this land for over 20 years...and mowed trails to my stands at camp many more years before that.....If you want to know the truth of it I was talking on line about many different hunting things from animal behaviors to what to plant way before they became popular and I was being told I was full of BS ...So never come at me with monkey see's monkey do's

To be honest...I could probably make a whole new blind with all that material.....personally I would have planted corn, sorghum,or a switch type grass along the trail and around the blind... it looks open enough to grow. If being seen on the ladder or platform is a concern...camo material or netting from Wally World or Jo Ann Fabrics would have worked

Both....once with the buck fever twice I had sat there so long all the isometrics in the world wasn't going to keep my limbs warm or loose enough to allow a draw. The worst buck fever happened when I was already at full draw on a doe when we both heard the snap...I looked to my rt and 10 yrds out...was the tallest rack I have ever seen ...I lost all muscle control...the arrow released and sailed under the does chin...my legs went out from under me and All I could see were blue and pink "stars" dancing around in front of my eyes...I dang near passed out....It was so scary I went to the DR. that week My blood pressure was 183 over 136 ...She immediately popped a pill in my mouth and said you should be having a stroke right now...Then.... you have had no symptoms until that hunt......nope I had to go on Meds...I only take 5 mg but they said it's a good maintenance for the things I do...lol

Well that seemed like an un-need hostile comment but so be it...I do what is best for my hunting and BTW...you might want to look around ...you'll find many...such as Charles Alshiemer,(sp) Grant Woods and several others that were using leaf blowers to clear trails to stands way back when I was still mowing them... http://www.gon.com/hunting/blower-bucks-think-outside-the-box-for-suburban-backyard-deer https://www.outdoorhub.com/how-to/2016/09/14/whitetail-wednesday-dr-grant-woods-simple-trick-sneaking-treestand/ with 2 miles of trails raking isn't and option any more...but I use to..

That is how I feel about crunching through the woods trying not to spook deer..or in the dark not being able to hear whats out there near me. More than once the shuffling of a skunk in leaf litter has saved me some real ace ache...allowibg me to back away without spooking it...let me step behind a tree when I heard the humph of a bear. Stop when hearing the approach of deer... I'm positive it irritates the guys hunting close to my lines..but it they have any common sense they'd consider its a help...cams have shown deer literally following me,passing cams just minutes behind me. That and they stand at a distance and calmy watch my direction.. besides it's a safety issue with me..too many injuries to risk a twisted ankle ,knee or face plant with unseen limbs ,roots, rocks under leaf cover. Well worth An hour or two of noise.
