New hunting cabin beds
growalot replied to bugsNbows's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Our camp is nearly 40 years old and it's never been a problem, not once. They have zipped plastic covers . And many containers of poison placed under beds and in each room the day we leave and during t h e checks. -
Prime Time....I have to admitted, even though I'm out there nearly daily from Oct 1 through both bow and gun until tags are filled , I leave best stands till that period.
-
Climbing ladders and then sitting still for hours in the cold...its called old age..lol If your not there yet..eventually you'll understand Thanks Nomad...he must have missed where I said the other day my practices are getting shorter due to an angry shoulder and knees, seeing I practice from a stand .
-
No, just misspoke, I think that was the price I use to pay...but any amount bugs me for a cross bow... a muzzle loader fine but I have a life time archery tag. For a couple of years I boycotted buying one,and just used my compound. Last couple though the shoulder has been acting up. Anyways I thought it interesting that they are coinciding.
-
Just like most hunters I have multiple weapons and enjoy using them...but by the end of bow season...my shoulder has had quite enough.....
-
So I was watching you tube tv and got onto the D&DH shows ...they gave the prime time deer hunting for NYS dates ... Just now I was checking on the crossbow season for our area and dang if it's not the same dates they gave to be in the woods hunting mature buck..Well I think they said Nov. 2 and x-bow is Nov 4 through 17th . I'm hoping to get mine before that...It just Kills me to have to pay 30.00 for a muzzle loading tag to use my cross bow.

I had some trimming to do when I went for my walk and checked the fields...the big WW and turnip /clover is doing well though turnips and clovers are slow and it got 15-15-15 and 32-10-6 and 0-20-20. I had it so mixed it all up and spread it..thought the WW was slow until I got real close and saw it was chomped down... I did pull cam card on the oak flats plot and it's looking good and being used...though I am now calling the area acorn alley...sounds like it's hailing down there..

Cheater soup... 2 packs of Liptons chicken noodle soup with broken up Angel hair pasta, left over veggies added. Mixed greens, corn off the cob, peas, fresh garden carrots, Brussels sprouts and diced chicken burger. Fresh rolls for dunking. Actually pretty good.

I think it would depend on terrain and distance. Wood , wooded open ag. ,or hedge row open.

growalot replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
No need for a Maze now Rob-c...I loaded up the generator, mask rug cleaner abd shopvac ...Cleaned Rivers Blind and the chairs...then went to the toxic waste blind...Get in it and 3 mice are half dead and trying to crawl away...I got it all vaccumed out then cleaned the rug and chairs wiped all surfaces down and put everything back in the blind..Oh boy glad I put out side decks on all of them that made it easy...So it was looking and smelling WAY better than before I also got my new 16ft ladder stand put together and all bolts, nuts, dings, and welds primed and painted. Will get that up after I bleach all the hoses, heads and body of the shop vac...making progress... OH man so glad I got those cleaned ..gross!!!!!!! -
Great from the ground...are you practicing them from your stand height.....may be surprised at the difference and from different distances...nice shooting

No shite!...lol This is why I put in that hay field mix in the front goat pasture...unfortunately golden rod wasn't the weed that invaded that area it was the Persian carpet weed. this choked out everything but my clover...so in order to at least save that, I had to mow it 4 times this summer to keep the weed down and the clover stimulated...Lost everything else. the clover is doing well considering and I hope it makes it through the winter....and grows fast enough in the spring to beat the weed It will get a frost seeding this year and I'll try a pasture down the road again. They love hanging in timothy as well.
-
Yes and I mentioned it a lot last year ,because of the neighbors sanctuary...it is where the deer hang out during the day on this hill...I had them mowing trails all through it when they decided to let their fields go years ago...now it's broken golden rod with trails of wild clover and timothy + grasses the deer pack in there. I've been walking the grandpups at night away from the house for "potty" and even though the nights have been wonderfully clear...my head lamp shows a light "Mist" in the air...pollen from the golden rod and I believe the late corn pollen that's left....

Speaking of that...OMG I went down to put up more.mouse.poison. and one blind is a toxic waste zone and I LITERALLY had mice jumping off the walls at me.....I have a few choice words bouncing angrily around my head...I obviously need a lot more poison. So Rivers blind wasn't bad but they got my sweat shirt I leave hanging there. I also installed the inside storm Windows on hinges and have them swinging out and up .I removed the outer storm flaps that were card board...need to finished that. Also take the. Small generator down on the Gator and shop vac the rugs and all mouse crap....with a paper suit and hazard mask.on. Won't be hunting that until later in the morning . -
They are nice bows looked at the new Hoyts when I was looking a few years ago they were my first compound and I had that for over 10 years and a guy I sold it to is still shooting it...Hoyts are well made..

It's stress induced... The link is one of the better explanations of this and with the drought we had last year and I don't know how your areas been this year it is probably closest to what your seeing which is why I picked it.... Don't hesitate on the spraying because of this because stressed trees are susceptible trees http://msue.anr.msu.edu/news/why_are_my_apples_blooming_in_fall here's another http://fruitgrowersnews.com/article/cold-injury-to-fruit-trees-a-big-concern/

Really! I actually thought "bet there's a bunch of rocks in that silage." It was down to dirt.

Nope, still need to trim in swamp, repair a tree blind and get that ladder stand put together and up..somewhere???? Shooting every day but just a few, shoulder and knees a bit angry so I'm not going to push it...lots of chores to be done before I get too into hunting...first half of Oct is my stand scouting...a couple of different each day. with a few hours in on each stand/ blind. Not really planning on killing a deer but if luck favors it that's OK...I just want to get movements down. -
My brassica seems a bit behind...and the clovers are very slow for being a red and Balansa...I have great grain growth. The end of one-way plot is being invaded by weed seed..I thought I'd gotten that down but nope...these will not have enough growth before winter to be a problem but I will need a legume safe broadeaf weed killer first thing in spring. They are eating bedding spots in the oats...would not have noticed except the cam would show them just disappearing. The oats are just under 3ft now. So I walked out to wear I noticed this...Lol they have chewed down areas all over in there with flattened Alfalfa and clover.. The beef farmer just mowed his last strip of hay so the cams have been a bit slow..also starting to see damage in the outer edges of farmers corn. All the remaining soy bean fields near bye are yellowing so that should help to move the buck, that and they literally scalped the alfalfa fields last week.

I take that back...one dead was not bow..gun opener..found him in one of my streams weeks later, not 70 yrds from the blind on neighbors foggy morning, a buck I had passed on, 6 pt 5 mins before he was shot. Neighbors brother.." Didnt look hit" neighbor was straight up about it...his brother never left the blind to check, not happy about it at all.
-
Wow...it's been the only other cervid I have wanted to hunt...great video
-
The thing is...those numbers are not posted and talked about. Rarely do you see in the gun hunting thread people willing to say...I blew the leg off a deer last night....I tracked it for so many yards then no blood. What you do see is more I took a shot and it didn't "look" hit and ran away. I've put down several " Didn't look hit deer" over the years. Seen many with blown off legs. This is because Not being up close,a good many won't follow up as a bow hunter does...Only seen one with an arrow in it and found 3 dead on the property during archery.
-
NEVER a straight down , a few yards out and with some angle yes and all dead insight. Someone in our area shot straight down on a buck. He trotted past out of range through our woods with an arrow sticking straight up from his butt...It's a sight I won't forget, for the image of those little flags on sticks you see recumbent bikers and people in wheel chairs along the road using popped into my mind. Don't know what happened to him but I got down to see how much blood he was losing.. when I found a little I tracked him u til he went off the property, about a 1/4 mile.. not a lot of blood. Clearly unable to hit trees and unless he dropped and rolled or pulled it out it wasn't going any place. Not a nice image.

I take it all back Stubby...YOU were clearly on my mind when writing this post. It's like your trying to own it,almost as you wearing a sign " My handle is Stubby,I'm the point of this thread"...Lol
