  1. LOL....the swamp buck....3 of my 8 pts were taken the next day or within 3 days of my leaf blowing or before that mowing leafs off trails....the hysteria guys that own their hunting property and are on it have about disturbing the woods makes me laugh.
  2. First time it happenef it blew my mind......I immediately climbed down and went home!
  3. OMG...I cant budge this string! There you are with a shooter infront of you. You take a breath set your stance or lseated position and go to draw, having figured out it's path.....When the string won't budge with all your might you pull...but the string won't come back....How many of you have experienced this...be honest now....I have had it happen 3x's over the years.
  4. Hey I dont rake the woods any more...I have the back pack blower..lol
  5. Yes we did and I too had some cleaning to do...it did drop that hung up maple ,exactly where I had planned.I hate well balanced trees. 3 days it sat on a 1/4 inch of wood in light breezes .after the rope I tried winching it over with broke. Boy that opened a few oak up and will serve to protect a wild apple from buck. It also tightens up a bedding area. it fell leaving a nice "secure" opening into it from a plot. It's an "Island" surrounded by plots under a group of 18 mature oak at the base of a hill. I allowed maples to grow under them then started hinging. Criss crossing them. Left a good sized grouping or dogwood brush on either end along plots and watched the bramble and grapes grow. Its a tangled mess the buck file in and out of. I also left a producing wild apple in it and have been nursing a sapling apple just on the edge. That was the last big maple that needed downing in it. Lol that was of trac...ahh but I actually slept 11 pm till 4....nice!
  6. Last night was all grilled. Chicken burgers, summer squash spears, onions, sweet peppers and wedged tomato tossed in garlic oil and black pepper.red potato and green beans. Burgers were "loaded" with a garlic yogurt and ketchup sauce.
  7. Their new silage bunker is so big they use a good sized bulldozer to make the "mountain" and pack it down...by the time they cover it it makes the semi trailer, manure tankers look like match boxes...
  8. Oh this is that or more...but just silking out..we already had a light frost here...We drove by thevother farmers soy bean fields...they arent close to a lesf drop filled with pods and his corn is nearly ripe...but those were higher and drier fields on the east ern slope of hill.
  9. Behind as always..but the first few weeks of Oct are stil work weeks for me..hunt a little work a little ...also this..leaf clearing...I know this drives some of you crazy..but deer season or not...the backpack blower and I clear trails and woodland plots...My cams always show mature buck walking past them in day light so I don't hesitate. Actually gotten my more deer than not.walking in quiet and with in yards of them...or having them walk under me when I'm half way up the ladder.
  10. How late do you guys think they'll wait t o chop? Hes usually right on target first week maybe two of Oct...If I remember they need a bit of a dry down in moisture before cutting?
  11. Yes sir, indeed that would be my case...
  12. I have mine right out in the plots...I also have them planted with Chinese chestnuts nearby...I have had the Chinese for YEARS...but neglected to really cage them and between the deer and the harsh winters they never took off...WELL when I started planting the Dunstan I went out and found the Chinese and caged everything. WOW what a difference! The Chinese are now all taller than me and I expect they will be producing next season. Man the deer love browsing these trees with out nuts! They do need protection and high protection at that...they have climbed the cages to break off tops and limbs
  13. So what he saying is...he's not so much in it for the relaxation and fun ,but as a competitor to himself and others?...I would rather go enjoy many things learning along the way and perhaps enjoying the occasional once in a life time moment...Then to try to go after one of those in the same venue each time I go out...Besides as you say he already has the invested money in gear already big toys don't make a better hunter or fisherman...they just make catching the game easier...sometimes.
  14. I am really pleased with these chestnut trees...here is one of two that are on their first production after 3yrs in the ground...I think that's a pretty good turn around...
  15. Took the camera with me...here is some of the fall progress...some look very thin...in part due to turkey but also I over seeded with clovers and turnips that are just now starting a little growth...these rains should seal the deal ,one way or the other.. I'm thinking I may have more plots than I thought... When I started counting the different nicks and crannies I've planted...plus not all are all that small....hhmmm...
  16. LOL...I'm showing this to Mr B as proof.....
  17. LOL that would be a tough "ponder" if a big boy came in and offered just one opportunity with the truck as a back stop...
  18. TF...with action like your seeing...I wish all my plots had "stalled" ...lol
  19. Oats need sun and a good moisture...perhaps the moisture and sun is a problem...I only plant rye and some WW in woodland plots.
  20. I have limb savers but nothing on the string...but do have a bolt spring dampener...It does work and they are so dang fast and powerful a little less speed is nothing...mine is considered a lower end bow and has killed deer that never knew the were even hit...took a couple of bounds stopped and dropped.
