  1. Stubby you may have nailed it...thinking back on my walk this morning and knowing there is at least one in the area.
  2. Anything with not too much salt and a lot of garlic and cumin
  3. Well the wind picked up and I went back out to the garden to pull carrots...was out there a while, no more sound like the ones earlier...so I'm really not sure it was trees...besides fairly evenly spaced sounds...hhmmmm
  4. So a hunter reported a huge pile of garbage on land he hunted...right next to the road and not buried. Sullivan county. It was put under surveillance A contractor told his workers to dump on the "vacant Lot" from a construction site in NYC. So this is what he was ticked for... 2 misdemeanor for unlawful disposal of SOLID WASTE OVER 10 CUBIC YARDS. `Now if you don't know what that looks like, it's a dumpster 12.5'x6.5'x4.5 ft deep. The second ticket was for placing noisome and unwholesome substance near a highway. So That answered a question as to the private dumping... 1. nothing over 10cubic yards 2. Open dumping near a highway...ooppss they were specific...PUBLIC highway I'm thinking the guy no longer hunts that land...they never mentioned the that contractor didn't own the vacant property...I would think he'd have a ticket and fines for that as well if he didn't.., The punishment were fines and he had to clean up the sight...now it did not say removal, it said clean up...He could have buried it. Well after removing the overage on 10 cubic yards...I suppose
  5. Would any be rubbing now and only Sasquatch around here have big paws and look eerily like humans when skinned Though rubbing sounds way different then a couple of racks ticking...had it been a different area I would have said a neighbor messing with his rattling antlers..
  6. rack ticking...I was out in the garden, mind you I know every square inch of my property. I have also racked up hours of buck sparring and fights over the years. Now with that said I'm picking beans when I hear ticking...Aug 23? hhhmmm Let it go when there it is again and again and again...just past the narrow plot behind the pines in out younger woods... no possible way it was a human made sound in that area and the wind wasn't blowing to tickle the tree limbs definitely not a wood pecker, pileted or other wise...So seeing I have not seen any buck here this year what would the chance be?????? we are usually looking early/mid Sept.
  7. The doe and fawn are eating well...
  8. Put them closest to your stand...or right smack dab in the middle The thing is though they have the seed that will survive the winter and thrive in fall...So unless you plan on over seeding the regular oats with clovers and brassica or buying a bag of WW to mix in ...you'll have some bare spots come late season and spring...You can see my pot pics of mixed greens and what I just mentioned in "Wheres those plots"...The one plot is mainly oats to act as a nurse to the alfalfa and the clover...I added turnips to that...Works well.
  9. Lets hope they don't disperse come Sept.... Well..... unless someone here is his neighbor I suppose....lol
  10. OK I went down and over seeded everything I planted in grains yesterday...turnips and clovers. I took some pics..you wanted to see the shotplot or what ever it's called from TSC here's some of it, as well as the newly planted horseshoe or now tear drop plot and the oats alfalfa plot. The one with Angel in the greens is the spring planted one. You can barely see where I mowed it last week! The tall plant in the brassica is that nasty Persian carpet weed. Frost will kill it quick. problem is it sets billions of seed. Still the plot seed thrives. All that said, I planted that winter seed spring and summer because it was 8.00 a half acre and it has such a variety it fed and will feed them, but it will give me bedding cover...yes they will and are bedding in it and I kicked a huge flock of turkey out of the lower long plot of it...I added oats and more brassica to it as well.
  11. Why bother engaging these guys, when some here show they have no understanding of words..The wording in what DW posted was clearly carefully choosen to imply a negative and to draw in simple minds...His posting it shows it worked.
  12. Lol...yep dropping letters.....That would be a dang short seasoned crop!
  13. We got them..big time...I couldnt plant braccs nor the clover I planned.do itin the morning.
  14. Dang all I do is cut trees...my brush pile fences there are well over my head nowIt gets filtered light most of the day and 4 hours of full sun......I even added more lime after the 12 bags I dropped in spring...fertilizer...it has no tilth to it.....gravelly, sandy, bit of red clay mixed in...
  15. Grew great !that said it almost out grew the weeds but barely...I actually mowed one mature section because the Persian carpet weed was so bad and even though the brassica and grains were over 2ft tall when I mowed,as were the weeds, dang if the clover underneath popped...There was just no fighting weeds anywhere up here this year...not even with spaying... The pot I just did might not be too bad but I spent the summer discing all the new growth so there was no food there for the deer. The only place it did not do well was the very early new lane way plot...the peas grew like mad...and some of the grains tried but none of the other seeds including the clovers grew...I just redid it with rye and brassica...This is a new plot that never grew anything but moss for 30+ years......I knew it would take a few years... Any ways I'm looking forward to finding it on sale again this year but planting it at the proper fall time... ...I never got my buck wheat in as I wanted to fill that summer void...
  16. Holy crap on a cracker Papist...You actually asked that question after reading some of these guys post on a hunting forum...Think about it, a hunting forum...Just imagine the rest of this age group loose out there. The ones not into what WAS historically, a conservative group...
  17. Can hardly wait to see her smiling behind one of them...you too!....looks great
  18. Holy Cow..the Gator earned it's keep today...I went down re-disced everything and then came back and hooked up the spreader loaded all the fertilizer and seed...I laid down the fertilizer first and it was getting grey then I spread 50# of WW on the 1/4+ acre are I had left in the feild...went to the River's lane way and spread seed there . I heard thunder so took off for the middle plot towing the spreader behind fertilized and seeded that and the two trail plots...went back to the feild and hooked up the drag...by that time steel grey was looming and the gator was put through her paces...just as I finished the middle plot it let loose!...I quick ditched the drag getting soaked in the process got remaining seed tied up and in the gator with remaining fertilizer...in for lunch before a shower and off to do errands.. Just two little spots left and they can be done by hand...Oh and walking the clovers and turnips over the feild plot I just did and the middle plot and trails...Can't right now lightening and nasty looking out there... Your plots look Great! Eeeww this is scary..high winds all morning and now dead calm and no sound...not even the jaysI can hear the acorns dropping out of the oak out back......
  19. Larry..astrological date for the equinox. FALL which was called harvest until the 1600's fell between August and Nov. For it was the time when summer grown crops ,fruits, and nuts were gathered. Then populations started moving to more city life and it was replaced with fallen leaf and shortened to fall. So obviously with different lattitudes, altitudes, and even terrains Fall would have different "starting dates",though it's right on schedual...lol
  20. Well for one thing the DEC predicted a lower number of bucks for this year...as I recall..Second I have always had the best years when no buck were sighted before late Sept. The bachelor groups start breaking up and they head right for the doe on our place. It should be a great year.
  21. Turnips and some red clovers top dressed over what I planted today due for rain then several dry days...WW will be on hold maybe..we will see.
  22. I just planted the trail plot behind the house and the horseshoe plot across the street in rye...going over to over seed with turnips......I need to go disc the lower field and plant the WW but that can wait a bit...I found some 18-20-10 fertilizer I had stored and that will go with the 15-15-15. I used 10-10-10 on what I did this morning...I sorely underestimated the amount of rye I needed I should have gone 80#'s not 50...so I may be buying more for the lower plots..I have the feild and middle plots to do. The lane way and a bit of over seeding rye in the clover plot...I need some protection in there...
  23. Obama and that thing he's married to must be sitting back laughing their a$$es off... He got what he came for. Then slipped off to the side to watch....He started this...he flamed it and he owns it.....May they both reap the violence in their lives that they have sown across this country...BTW... I don't care what color, religion affiliation or sexual orientation he is...it was his hateful, egotistical rotting soul that makes him what he is and that is despicable. JMO
  24. If you've seen one....you've seen them all....
