  1. Thanks erussell....yep I always start too many projects and never finish them all...but...it just sets me up in a good position to finish them the following year...Mr B has a young man that just became unemployed....he wants to help him out with a job helping me....as he puts it your not 30 any more...Oh gee thanks for noticing...lol...Yet he just bought me a surprise....a Stihl mini might chain saw...So I can chunk up all the fire wood logs I've cut ...I'm hoping to have trail cams back out today or tomorrow...and yep I'll post pics of progression ...in case anyone else wants to try these two seeds...or not we'll see....
  2. I can handle the above statement...the one that really tweaks me is " GD bow hunters wound more good buck than I'll ever see!" How many of you have heard that one before....so I'll admit...I ease-drop while in hunting Dept.'s...I've heard some whopper statements for sure
  3. Get that Hemp/soybeans in...phewwwww!...dang deer flies chewed me to shreds......So new planting...small seed...like buck wheat...I disced...dragged seeded and dragged again....depth was to be 11/2 to 2in...hope it is right....I go over it tomorrow with the Milorganite....and hope for rain...unfortunately I over estimated on seed and have a lot left over...thought that would happen so only inoculated just what I used..or I under seeded...but I don't think so because I disced in sunflower seed before the first drag..hhmmm wonder if it will hold over if stored right...I'll have to see...the soybeans are a Southern re seeding type..so maybe?? I'll be checking it often....wont be able to stop my self....the alfalfa is coming along slow but good...if too thin I'll just over seed in the fall....now to finish the garden...fencing...addition to chicken coop....fall plots and wood clearing.......eeehhhh gads
  4. lol...last resort....not result....aaaahhhh never mind you guys should be use to me by now....and have the decipher down...lol
  5. Your right...both of you...lol...I must admit...that the other thing I said when he said all you bow hunters get the best dates...during prime rut..."You know that the ruts about over before we gun hunters get a chance."...I let the last rut part slide...but said... Ya know I thought the same thing years ago ...and fixed it by going out and getting my bow license...go figure....He then went to the rack thing...lol but yes bow hunters in general are disliked a bit by non bow hunters...which is funny...it's your choice...the only ppl they have to really B--ch at is them selves....I was in my late 30's when I started and that was with a 45# recurve...not some young strong person..with perfect muscles and ligaments...around 37 years of injuries...dislocated shoulders and hyper-extended elbows...bad back and sprained...well nearly every joint I have...but It's what I wanted to do so I worked for it...That is what bugs me about this whole situation.....
  6. We have a very high density of deer...and I personally feel more than an acre in size is a waste...not saying all told.... that I don't have much more than that...but the rest is broken up with in the woods and through out the property...but as mentioned the deer are on the smaller plots and browsing on the natural forage between those plots much more during the day than in the open corn and alfalfa fields that surround us....those large fields are hit at night...especially once the area traffic increases in the fall...with guys looking for the "big boys" to hunt...but even the bigger planting sized field I divide into different food....mix of annuals and perennials .....kinda like...I prefer spring mix over iceberg salads...
  7. Well every thing is looking good...we'll see how he sleeps now...though working 3rd shift has totally messed him up...but we can hear already a huge difference over the phone and in person in his speech...we can under stand him now...lol
  8. Nope ...first statement was he didn't like the internet....have a feeling he didn't like a lot of things...had blk powder...didn't like ...I certainly avoided food plots ...and he had only one deer in his basement...the first one he ever shot......his brother but the horns on a plaque for him...no need for that nonsense....lol
  9. Thanks...I just drove him home...took care of the dogs got meds in him...should be doing fine when he gets back from the surgeons office tomorrow.....the dressing is driving him crazy until then....he'll just sleep I hope...he's on enough meds.... I have to say about that guy....I don't think bow hunters are his problem...he hunts in Rush for crying out loud...you can barely blink with out seeing a deer....lol
  10. So I'm in the waiting room waiting for son to get out of surgery....this older guy was there...and I said I think I'd prefer music...The TV was on...talk show...so he starts talking ...which is what I wanted to pass the time...one thing leads to another..I said I don't watch TV ..I'm always out side..though I like the computer...he mentioned hunting ..I said I hunt...he says he got a new cross bow..I asked what kind...Martin...I ask draw weight He says 175...I ask is it hard to pull...He says yes...I suggest a rope cocker to lessen stress...he says he should have gotten a crank..I said I've bow hunted for years and just got a new bow last year....Next thing I know this guy is chew my head off...you bow hunters are greedy...get the best and longest times.... I never see deer...I mean he was on a rant...I finally said...listen your talking to a bow hunter and didn't I just congratulate you on your new bow purchase and give ya a tip? ....Really I was just passing the time...So he turns to...so I'm putting an ad in the paper...asking farmers with nuisance permits to share with me and give my phone #...That way I can hunt year around....Good luck with that... never know...pheww they came and got me....
  11. It would have been the very last stop for the Wayland school bus...so near Springwater...we had house hunted for several years from Bloomfield to Liester and Cohocton to Livonia..Then had op. for Colorado...sold our house and Company sent us out to find a home there...spent a week with a realtor crying...kissed the ground in NY ...saying I'd never move...never know just how good your home state is until you leave or nearly leave...but had just one week to find a place..where we are now. Sent Mr B to Colorado for a year..then Tennessee and finally Maryland ...2yrs later...he was home again..Wild ride for a while...The day after we moved he left and the kids started school...
  12. Still time to nest again...I'm worried about our local nests...the next door neighbor has had loggers here for the past week....they'll be leaving tomorrow but his place is a big nesting spot....talked to the cutter he says he hasn't seen a bird all week but the deer have been around with fawns....Wow I can see across the valley and the area I'm fencing in ...stopped working fence until trees are cut....is now flooded with lots of light...Good growing conditions for the future....His place has always been a good bedding area...and now this will make it even thicker....they come up to feed on us so it works out well...especially since we now lay smack dab in between the corn alfalfa fields and his fresh cut swampy area ..looking good
  13. I Think the nearest Rd was Lukenback(sp)?..not good with rd names...near an old (Green)Depot the property had a huge gully on it...
  14. Congrats.....WNYBH ....Wiz sorry you went through that...before we bought this place I put an offer on a fantastic place on Cnty Rd 37....beautiful...contingent on the sale of ours....we were in negotiations with the ppl that bought our place when the other owners showed up at our door....visibly upset...she'd been crying They were a retired couple building a home in Florida at the time I think Andrew..or one of those storms hit...build materials tripled over night down there and a British CEO from a company here came in and offered them 20,000 dollars more than our offer....but we still had a few weeks left to sign before they could legally get out of the contract....I loved that place but hoped some one.... some day would show the same decency to us....and let them out of the contract...I kinda avoid driving cnty Rd 37 now ..but don't regret helping them out...glad it all worked out for you..
  15. Oh here as well...but as you can already guess this area has been used by the deer for years any ways my main reason for keeping the goats ...besides milk was as a deer attractant...especially keeping my bucks..their smell carried ..well every where....the goats droppings kept it well seeded in clover...and our goats would only eat clover as a last result...which kept the deer in there feeding all the time...it's just the need to improve the land that has me planting...never waste an open space
  16. Here a couple more...there are 12 scattered around...for my old age as well...lol...big enough to add a second chair if wanted...good turkey blinds as well....I add to them every year some are nearly ten years old now and block wind pretty well...deer use them ans wind breaks during the winter.....lots of birds nest in them as well...In a few I'm thinking of adding blk locust frame and a camo tarp roof for rain and snow...time will tell..that is if I have any...just ideas for those that like ground hunting...Suns out..gotta run.....
  17. As you know I do lots of cutting and use every thing...making fences but also ground blinds...the last few days of rain has kept my work inside but grabbed camera on way out for walk....thought I'd snap some pics of a few of the many blinds I maintain on trails to stands and my view from them...I can glass ahead and if I have deer between me and a stand then I have a hidey hole to duck into...perhaps for a shot...they've cost me nothing but work and time...which I had to use anyways to clear tops...the plastic arm chairs my dad in-law was throwing out so I painted them camo...the umbrella in the first pic is attached to a re-bar pole and I painted that camo as well $3 from dollar store...retracts when not in use and been there 4yrs...keeps some rain and snow off me
  18. http://www.growingde...ing-and-growth/ Found this on Grant woods "Growing TV" ...read that article and see what he says....
  19. Yes.... I considered that...but this area is fenced in all the way down to the barn across the front where those pines are and 2/3's down the other side...plus our house faces it from the other side of road...since the goats.... we have surveillance....What is actually in the long term future is pasture improvement...the grass hides some real problems...besides "bumples"...lol drainage is one pretty wet and of course the PH....after a couple of years in liming...discing and a drainage project....... The older field fencing will be replaced more posts put in and pasture re planted..... calves.. ....in the mean time I will utilize it as fall deer feeding area...also to keep weeds from seeding and finding there way into the bordering fenced garden... I 'm a 5 year planner ...Besides Mr B has plans in the works for a new barn/work shop in that area
  20. Some of you guys mention the free standing .and I have to tell you neither of my blinds are in the ground...and we have had some God awful storms hit this hill...tearing up large trees and downing power lines...the first is made out of card board and tarp....very light on a a 2x4 deck with 1x6 planks and 4x4 legs 6ft tall to deck...All I did was brace the legs...you'd think it would have flown away like a kite but brace position is every thing...the second is 8ft tall and I did the same thing but nailed the one board the ladder leans on to the pine treefor support...the blind it's self is 2x2 framing with 1/2 plywood sides....facing north west into the wind...just cut up a 12" diameter popular that snapped off right next to it two days ago....Braced that one with cut logs
  21. If it ever stops raining...lol......the first pic will get hit one more time then disced a couple of times for turnips...the second picture will get a kill down and winter wheat put in...This is a new area so it is a low PH and full of weeds with what I call bumples....remnants of the plowing the farmer did years ago and never disced or flattened...I'll be working those "kinks" out ......the third is a 3 yr old clover plot in the woods
  22. Rainy day so I decided to grab the camera on the way out for my walk...this is what the last winter storm did to a row of my wht spruce...some have started recovering ...others I can tell that they are"stress fractured" on the inside....will never straighten ...some I'll cut the tops out of and allow a secondary leader to grow...they are snow break trees....
  23. Nice pics...need to get those cams back out....deer will be changing patterns this year BIG TIME....new corn fields on two sides and the loggers are hammering the neighbors woods on another side...which I'm hoping helps me...for one thing I can now see across the valley and that means more sun to the area I'm now in the process of fencing...because of fencing I can now plant the area for the critters and get it in shape for perhaps future live stock...had to stop for the loggers.....gives the loggers room to drop close by trees and move around with out worrying about repair/replacing someones fence...I hope to get nice buck like that on mine this summer...hope they stick around for you
  24. Yes very lucky and It's funny....some trees not only lost the blossoms but got fire blight to boot and others came through in spades...I'm surprised the very young ones fruited...the persimmon are a late blossom so That wasn't as big a surprise but a good persimmon crop means a good gun season...No plums nor cherries and lost the top of one of my best trees...but good note...the gobbler oak the buck raked the crap out of last year...refused to die and is re-sprouting from the lower trunk....rebar and a cage ...goes up this week end
