    Decoys

I use a bobbin head decoy and a bobbin head turkey decoy at the same time ...what great fun ...had a chance at a nice mature 8pt but neighbors dog came in chasing a bunch of doe and fawn taking the buck with him...I was all set to draw > ...anyways passed on some nice six and had fun watching a few younger buck dance around it.....turkey come in to the set up as well
  3. Haven't been there in a few years...thought it would have been more populated by now...wish him luck
  4. But Fasteddie ...I use to drive that to go to work years ago in Macedon...It was getting pretty populated then...you add the yuppy factor and the 500ft rule...and aren't there a bunch of golf courses in they area?.....ppl that have horse farms ...and those # are way off balance when considering a huntable herd.....there are some pretty big private no go zones there isn't there?
  5. They use to do deer drives down at camp but thankfully have gotten old enough they can't now...I have to say though...we all carried whistles and you were to walk 10yrds and blow on the whistle...for even though we all wear hunter orange head to toe...dang if you couldn't see the person until they were in range ...the whistles helped keep the deer from doubling back for some reason....they did get a few nice buck that way ....my sister in-law and I got the biggest doe ever taken at camp that way....
  6. We've had tree stand made out of PT wood still going strong after 20 years...a little maintenance goes along ways...I've had reg ash wooden ladders that are over 20yrs old still in good condition...it's called linseed oil
  7. I think the law states that a trespasser can only sue for injuries occurred due to neglagent acts or some such...simple law suite fix....bright yellow sign stating this WARNING stand is electrified...touching will be hazardous
  8. Thanks Burmjohn...I love growing plots....Good luck this season
  9. Yes the buckwheat will drop on first frost but if you have other things in there let it be ...that buckwheat is a great draw for deer ...I plant some every year and regularly over seed it in the fall with braccs or triticale or annual rye...bees just love buck wheat....and when it seeds it will draw in the turkey and grouse in your area...besides benefits to your soil....win win all around
  10. Well I put in a corn plot just to have cover from the road and a group of yahoos on one side....flock of 30 turkey came in to this very late planting...mid july and just about wiped it out...I got angry and went down and just shot turnip seed here and there in amongst remaining corn....I also planted a little while ago more turnips...little thin so added Appins to the Purple top...here are pics
  11. perhaps not...I just read the 3 pages and find the whole food plots are no differant than feeding or baiting argument tiresome....On our 73 acres I have12 ground blinds and 26 stands...and 12 food plots....I hunt those areas according to the stand placement and wind...I have no idea where the deer or when they may or may not show up at any given day...and many of those stands and blinds aren't any where near a plot..but near acres of bramble I have growing or near a water feature...fruit trees or the producing red Oak on the property....so no different than agricultural field.. Now with feeding ..heres the thing.... feed is placed in a limited area and at specific times...ie...timer on a feeder....or...Guy gets out of work and has just enough tme to go drop of a pile of what ever...those things happen around the same time of day....causing a unnatural movement pattern in the herd..... thus an un fair advantage to the hunter...see how that works ...so there IMHO is your difference
  12. during bow not so much...only in a light drzzle/misting ...during gun...I Sat opening day in gun a coupl of years ago and it just poured all morning long...my son got a great doe but I just got soaked...even with the rain gear...cleaning and drying my rifle was a pain
  13. my woods are tore up and have kicked up 30 hens and poults...poults are the size of chickens now...Then a while ago spotted 3-4 long bread hanging out on edge of property near neighbor corn /oat planting
  14. heres a wooden "hang on" I built for camp last year......
  15. Well did you read this weeks Out Door News? Because it's news to me that it is LEGAL to feed bear as long as the site is cleaned up 9 days prior to the season opener and no food bait is used during season and they did mention the 1.5 oz limit on liquid bear lure So heres the ? how can you legally feed bear and not get fined for deer coming to a bait/feeding site?
  16. Well mine arrived Saturday and today I got my 8X and 8N permits...poor Dad in-law got his legacy LT but they forgot his muzzle loader tag...eye surgery kept him from applying for his 8X doe tags today...Good luck everyone
  17. all but one hung ...one to repair...one to finish putting rails on and I just built this to put out for turkey and gun...need to make the platform.....
  18. first make sure you get your cell phone out the second you see them and have it ready to dial DEC with one click...or your 911 just in case...and get at least a cell pic of them......if you can get a pic and Text it to someone close to you...before you even talk to them would be smart...I prepare for the absolute worst and hope for the best on all things....it sticks in my mind...one person around here commenting on the best way to get rid of a person you don't like is to keep quiet about it then have a hunting accident...scary...I also think of that when ppl drown in these local lakes
  19. Thank you Lawdwaz....my Dad in-law just called me last night and asked....I told him I'd put the word out and was waiting a reply....camps in a low # area and he feels better getting in line as soon as possible..lottery or not Our clerk will be pleased to see me first thing...one year I went to Walmart and Mr. B heard about it every time he saw her...lol
  20. yes woodsdwellar and aren't we sorrier for it ....Fasteddie it's just a little thing between me and our clerk
  21. the DEC estimated the ones that killed our 130# Nubian goats went between 65-85 pounds and the ones that circled me on the way to my stand were all of that.....the one looked to be the size of my female shepherd...
  22. DMP's go on sale Monday and they have slashed allotments...(good thing I think)...our life time tags have yet to arrive....hows that work?...It's a tradition for me top be the first in line at the clerks office to purchase tags...I'd like to still keep that tradition in applying for my DMPand this year I can get a land owners....superstition working here ???
  23. sweet wouldn't mind at all seeing that near our place...good luck this season
