  1. Bye the way...NYODN...came again today....lol....they are slashing DMP...8N is going from 23,000 last year to 11,000 this year...finally they seem to be seeing what I've been seeing for at least 3yrs + now.........anyone get their life time tags yet?
  2. I suppose that statement would apply as to where you are hunting them...for I having lost way too many goats...been surrounded by them lost a turkey to them ...neighbors below us loosing their turkeys and chickens...neighbors above their sheep....and a beef farmer not far from us reporting calves snatched AS they were being Born...well we have a different view.....
  3. You do what I did...calmed down then called reg 8 director..which got an I'm sorry and he was "talked to"...really?!.... and then... but we still wont' do any thing...so I e-mailed Albany and let them know whats been going on...and I'm not going to let one opportunity pass to tell what happens...Don't think these sites aren't monitored they are...and with every telling more ppl having problems pop up ...... I equate it to....NYDEC's toilet seems to be broken or plugged....I would think that the owners would want to rout out the problem before too much more crap builds up.... A NOTE: Not ALL DEC officers are like the one I encountered that day but even one is too many ...
  4. fern never seen...but they do eat certain moss.... in the winter and like bedding in mossy areas....when scouting an area I like looking for that and white pine....white pine generates more heat than other trees and I find in the winter the deer like bedding under them...one of my best stands is in a big white pine
  5. Here I suppose it depends on the light available...I had a spot I'd worked for 4 yrs and couldn't get anything to take...called WTI and they suggested secret spot...nope that was a bust as well...mind you 4 yrs of ground breaking weed killing and lime...then I found what is in the pic....Sucra seed...high sugar rye and orchard grass with red and wht clovers ...I planted in late March....
  6. On the other side of this...unfortunately...imagine the profit to any one starting up a wood drying kiln......
  7. and that is why my signs are 60-100 ft apart and not the 600 they suggest and you need to clearly mark property corners...which is done with orange cones and steel posts with surveyor pink paint and tape.... I went to the town judge ...told him of the problems we'er having and told him to talk to the ppl involved..he knows them...explained what we've done to prevent these problems....and I have no problem sitting in his court..that All signs have my cell # on them so the excuse that they couldn't reach me to "track" wouldn't fly....It has helped some...He told me he had just sold his land near one of the lakes ...because trespassing was such a problem and hassle..... The third time I was nearly shot on my land and in my own stand..... the DEC officer refused to investigate ...even though he saw the trees the slug took out by my head and went on to say... I had to hunt elsewhere on my own land and said..." You don't want to be the land GUSTOPOL do you?".....seriously? nearly shot out of a 16ft tree stand and they say that! Every one around us have signs 60ft apart...because we're battling both the illegal and legal morons
  8. Bubba ...when we were in Colorado looking for property ...Those posted signs were every where....I don't really think they thought it was just a joke ??? Actually those stated..........POSTED Violators will be shot Survivors will be prosecuted
  9. I walked turnips over the corn ...the turkeys all but destroyed > ...and the lowere soybean plots and Sucraseed trails...That was Friday and rain...hot..humid!!! Well I checked Sunday afternoon and they were up..some an in high already! ...I'll have to get a pic of my bramble patch...told Mr.B. I'll have to be very careful...loaded with berries and you can't see 3ft infront of you...and it's 6-8 feet tall...the whole acre.
  10. now thats a good idea...have any ideas on how to make the unit remote?
  11. 22...but I only skin out the back legs....when I have enough they hit the crock pot....
  12. Thats a great plot...ahhhh to get lime spread...lucky dog!....It takes me 3 years of liming to get my areas up to where they are "stable" then I can rest a bit ...with it having been that low...and reliming down the road will be needed...I don't know what it cost you to have it done...but walking grandular lime over it...several 40# bags in a year or so will help maintain the levels...It takes much longer to break down but...will last in your soil much longer as well....looking forward to seeing your great 2010 harvest from there
  13. I bought a true ball a few yars ago...couldn't get it to feel right...so still using my finger tab...
  14. actually nyhunter ...I am too...those stands I built all have very large eye bolts in them that .before I ever step off on to the platform I hook my harness to...They are also set at a height that if I were to fall I would never go farther than my knees at most below the stand...Of course I'm a tad well...anal about stand maintenance...re nailed and or bolted and I go through alot of boiled Linseed oil every other year...deer kinda like the smell of that stuff...strange :-\
  15. I'm lft handed as well and shoot my guns left...both eyes open... For years I've hunted with a right handed bow and both eyes are open ...but...I shoot fingers and instinctive...I tried and tried but could never use a sight or peep that is... Until this year and I won a Peep Eliminator sight for ppl like me ...then bought a truglow front sight...wow It's just like using a rifle site ...amazing really....seriously can't wait until bow season and I'm hoping for a nice bow turkey to start out with..if I can find the time...it will be a wood chuck first
  16. I had a guy ask me who the hell I was...standing in the middle of my land!
  17. dry weather? someone in NY is having dry weather!...I'm building an arc here...lol Ah one more thing to worry about Geez :-\
  18. Well guys here's my theory on this poor little guy..actually not so little the booger was heavy to drag... any how...most of the deer strikes around here are deer jumping out of the culvert ditches into the sides of cars....I think he did that ..survived the impact and developed a huge hematoma that got infected ...his liver couldn't process it ...thus the sticky blk anal seepage and the smell of death ...his liver was shutting down...uncomfortable/pain he was constantly on the move...thus the fur being rubbed off on his inside leg....it was going to be a slow miserable death for sure....JMO
  19. Thanks ...and actually it is true that every six I passed was shot during gun..well the neighbor found one dead on her place and thinks it was a bow kill....I make sure I talk to ppl around me...the thing is I know that he either dispersed here from else where during the year and or as soon as Sept rolls around he'll move on to another area....these are things I know from being out in the woods on a daily basis and hunting pretty much every day until mid Dec every year....the best I can hope for is the ppl a couple miles away are letting them walk to make it to our place this year...of all my neighbors only one won't shoot any thing that walks and also has an absolute NO doe killing policy...every one else if it's a running deer they either shoot AT it or drop it...from the # of mercy kills...I save my doe tags for and the skeletons I find...either way they are dead deer...It is what it is when you live in a high hunter density area...which is why we just keep buying up land around us...Started out with 9 1/2... 16 years ago and have 73 now...This general area has always...way before we moved here......been a problem area....ppl absolutly lose the brains once hunting season rolls around and having lrg spread out parcels it also brings in the road hunters....spotters....road sitters...ect...The number of ppl that pull in looking to see what vehicles are here is crazy...We have a company and my two vehicals and come Sept we hide one just to keep them off balance...chased a couple of..."drop offs" through our woods...thinking I was gone...now I hunt using two weapons ...one being a camera with a great zoom lens...It just is what it is.. But to better things...Yes I am hopeful to get the "hardened off" pic...then I will have pics of an entire growing season for this deer...I plan on having them framed as a group....that's a trophy for me ...I've never had a rack mounted...it would have to be a crazy great deer for me to do that ...but cross your fingers ...perhaps a bear rug soon
  20. If you don't get it here's a couple of notes....NY pistol permit holders names and addresses were posted on the internet. Coyotes have attacked 3 and 6yr olds playing out doors during the day...Ya so I guess they don't need your clothes to smell like goat any more > ... Sale of Hemlock and Canadice to DEC is now final...
  21. Mam... ...Ahh I wish he could make it but not here for sure.....We are elbo to elbow in both bow and shot gun...and if he doesn't change his ways soon being a day time roamer he's sure to hit the dirt...ever 6pt I passed on during archery ...was shot during gun season
  22. He was out this morning...I see he's "thinning out" so growth is getting close to the end I think...perhaps not...but how big(score) do you think he'll end up being for a 7pt...remeber he's the one pictured above...
  23. Congrats to you guys.....
  24. ya ..and this is why I walk a hundred yrds into the woods to feed my chickens....ever increasing lack of self respect and respect of others...and the value of human life
