before I could venture a guess I'd have to ask a few ?'s how much land is your camp on? how is camp located on the land?...edge...center...near cams/plots..wind relation to pic area? What kinds of activities do you engage in when first arriving...cutting wood...shooting driving 4 wheeler...checking cams...starting wood stove..ect These could all be a factor in the first week lull...when deer aren't use to the sudden turf activity..... may make the nocturnal for a bit/or change patterns

yes and then when temps go up again it will start growing again...so actually around here I can count on growth well into Nov...as long as the ground has a chance to get sun...hhmm sun...I think I remember seeing that way back when :-\ but I speak too soon...last Oct bow opener I was hunting in 6 in. of wet snow

Yes..I left the house at 7am yesterday and it was raining ....got home still ..walked dogs at 11pm ..still ....well it's still raining 24 hrs later ...it's too wet to even muck out the barns....I'd have ruts every where...looks like my house is getting a good cleaning before season opener ....the groung has been so saturated this year....I'm not sure I'd feel safe in my climber...no matter what tree I chose ???

Well being so high up are frosts are a tad later...but the problem I have is getting it to dry enough to till it up and get it in...also just 12 days to opener...I'm under the gun...good thing is it's a well draining area on a slope....Rye comes up almost over night

But the deer and turkey came in and ate every bean off the soy plants....so I mowed it down will rake...when rain ever stops and hopefully that will be soon...I'll get the 50#'s of winter rye planted in a few days...so I'll have winter rye on either side of the turnips...and perhaps down on the lower section as well...keep them in the center as best I can........

Your right...and setting up in front of your neighbors stands and in direct line with their posted signs isn't friendly....neither is cruising other ppls property...posted or not...still illegal without permission in NY... looking for deer signs......Shooting into anothers land that you KNOW is occupied is simply Reckless Endangerment and I will go for those type of charges...ppl have a right to be safe on their own lands

So I'm not the only one noticing how the DEC has a difficult time realizing they actually need to work for that pay check...hhmmm

I have my stands set up so that I can be quite a ways away from the line ... I'm difficualt to see but I can watch the line...I also have ground blinds...I can see and hear...so at any shot...and you would be surprised how much noise a bow releasing and arrow or hitting a deer actually makes at a distance...I'll be there....I have absolutely no problem having some one arrested...I had family members arrested so whats some stranger to me? Because the DEC has told me they want proof of who actually shot the gun that nearly hit me ...even though they have seen the shot trees next to where I was...including a dogwood that was cut in half when I was in the tree stand...My family bought me a really good digital cannon with a fine zoom lens...I also purchased a good zoom bino camera and I'm putting up the game cams this week....normally it's just family that hunts but this year I have a couple of guys and a son that will hunt the other areas that I can't and we'll just switch days...this guy is retired and beef farms...so I'm sure he figures he has free range...one of my other neighbors will have their bow hunters set up as well....they watch that area during gun because they listen to the local radio talk..couple of years ago ppl we've had problems with lined up and let loose in our woods...I was in a stand down hill 1300 ft away an sat there listening to the slugs whistle and zap through the trees to my rt...he ..was was in their lane way and saw the three guys...she was listening as they radioed others in their group laughing " I wonder if she was in her stand? Ha Ha ha....then they took off...the neighbor went to check ..to see if I was alive... >

I have to every season.on 3 other lines....but pretty sure by the end of two weeks...the deer won't be traveling the same route any more ... the thing I like about the new blinds...I use limousine tint on the windows...I can see out ...but no one can see in.....

So the guy that bought the open field next to us is on the line to our woods ...I hear the chain saw...go out what are you doing...putting up tree stands...shows me one 100yrs off the line on edge of the gully that runs the hill...OK...then he starts walking up the property line and says my wife stand will be here...he points into my woods and says the deer cross here....I mean in line and 2ft of to the lft of my posted sign...You do know I have a stand right there...150 ft off the line in my woods...clearly visble ...ya... and one up there..another 150ft away in my land that doesnt boarder him...yep ....Well I say.... I see you will need my cell number ...It's washed off the sign ...he looks at me like I have 2 heads...I said sorry but NO one comes on our land with out my permission...and relay the horror stories of ppl shooting at us and what not...so he takes the # ...then tells me he just trespassed on the guy next door...HE just posted against... to walk up and check on another guys alfalfa field!! > ....Goes on to tell me he could have bought more of the land but didn't need any more woods...apparently not!.....they plan on hunting ours!...I let Mr B know and he flips...he knows them...says they'll shoot and drag and I should have laid the hammer down...I wanted to give benefit of doubt but really!?...My fire wood guy and I will be cutting that wood lot this fall...seeing all the ash we cut is quarantined....We'll clear an area for me to put a bigger one of these up this late winter spring

hhhmmm I resemble that ...lost a couple of beautiful 8's due to little branches I never saw...and what's up with that!!...smaller than the diameter of a kids straw and sends my arrow into the nether regions? and excuse me but does time slow down when that happens? because it seems like I watched those arrows in slow motion!!

a few years ago ...I went out at camp before light...it was -10...got to rhe stand....a ladder stand and sat for 12 hrs.......My Dad in- law actually got the truck and drove the road to see if he could spot me in the stand...the temps never got above 0 ...Now...well I've spent a good part of the summer rigging things so I'm not sitting in the wind and weather....Gun opener two years ago it was raining to beat the band and sorta warm...lasted that until noon and was MISERABLE the whole day even after I came in....The older I get the harder all day hunts are becoming...unless I'm in my Tree lounge...That is just the greatest stand made.... for a person with a bad back ....also because I really don't sit a whole lot and have a problem with vitamin D deficiency ..during hunting season I suffer from mind destroying leg cramps...the long sits are tough...

Thats a good ? and got me thinking over the last 30 plus years and dividing it up in am...mid day...pm .....it's been about equal with the am/pm being a bit more..That being said...divide it up further and I get bigger buck ...for me the 8pts...have been higher midday /pm

Karpteach...makes me sad to hear guys say things like that...We bought 24 1/2 acres for 10,000 dollars ...just before season opener last year....Our son bought 5 acres with a lrg updated farm house ...pond...2 garages...and a 12x10 ft shooting house on 20ft telephone poles for 35,000...3yrs ago when he was 21yrs old It's not so much the money but the time you put into it.......

Sorry Doc...I'm in 8n and I've been preaching how they were handing out way too many 8N tags for over 3yrs now...and we aren't seeing the #'s we use to...I have been getting an 8X and 3 8N's every year...always got 2 extra in the second draw...incase your wondering...for the wounded ...infected...deer that make it to our place every year...you know the..I shot AT it ..while it was run 50miles an hour across a field...but it didn't " LOOK" hit > Don't say this often...but I think the DEC actually woke up for this one

I nail waterpipe brackets to my wooden stands and when the leaves dry on the beech ..I cut branches and put them in the brackets

I know this isn't turkey related...but about seeing new things..we are getting rain and LOTS of it...but..it has been raining here 2-3 a week all summer long...I went to the dog kennel today and peeking out from under my umbrella I notice worms...big earth worms...climbing the bark of the maple and cherry trees....dozens of them...Wow should I be looking up ppl named Noah in our area?..... :-\

Wow ...I just got through reading this thread...and I have to say....the visual it gave me was pretty much in line with a bunch of guy standing in a locker room...hhmmm....sizing up the guys around him....seriously...from what I've been observing over the past 30+ yrs...the DEC is boarder clueless and the the AVERAGE hunter is clueless as to what is going on in the deer woods.... God almighty wake up and realize that everyone has an agenda...DEC is run by politicians...that are run by special interest groups....and please don't get me going on the QDM thing...because that would swing me to NY guru Charles A....what a total joke that is.....$$$$$$$$$ ppl Though I will admit that it has some merit...but not the altruistic ones ppl love to label it with....Don't we have enough ppl poking their noses in our business on a daily bases? We need more?!...What happened to going hunting for the enjoyment of it and not just the bragging rights...what happened to the thrill of a good clean kill on what ever deer we shoot and the time we spent hunting it...time spent in the woods...with family and friends...real friends not the Ohh hunting is coming up lets call so and so who has land : ...And where the hell did we stole any shred of respect.... Every body wants to beat the "Jones"...be it his neighbor...or anther STATE...hey why don't you take a good look at what those big buck states have for ppl populations ..compared to NY...and don't throw NJ bucks at me because they are clearly smart enough to hide and adapt in populated areas...just like Rochester big bucks....Really know wonder states are loosing hunters....reading some of these forums...especially the closer the season gets...it's hard not to want to quit
