  1. I have 30...grouped in 2-4's.....most stands are here at home 73 acres and the rest are at camp...the guys have 5 stands at camp...they wont hunt out of my stands because they wont use harnesses > ...and they won't hunt as high as I do....only my self..daughter and son bow hunt...I taught them...dad in- law goes out once in a while and Mr.B refuses to bow hunt...but he really doesn't gun hunt much either fishing is his thing
  2. Went to camp today! ;D ....deer beds under all my stands...kicked up a doe and fawn laying on trail and when I finished my rifle stand and climbed to sit a spell saw a huge doe straight in front of me 200 yrd open shot...this is a new stand in an apple orchard ...loaded with late dropping apples and thorn apples....I can't wait!
  3. always have in gun season full camo orange from head to toe ...the whole familt does...if you've read some of my post you know why.....
  4. on occasion...especially in the Tree lounge....it's like a recliner/cot...but us gals don't have it as easy as you guys :
  5. I have over 2miles of mowed trails so usually I don't use a light...I carry one just in case.....I've been charged by deer going to stand a few times...circled by coyotes...DEC said I was breakfast...long story...but with the cross bow situation will probably have the light on now...besides bears are increasing...and I can't run as fast As I use to
  6. Iget alot of stumps and BIG rocks so I use the backhoe on our tractor one year after cutting....the roots are a tad weaker then....our bigest problem in clearing are rocks...I hand remove all bigger rocks and then rake the smaller ones....here is a field I finally cleared enough to plant corn in last week
  7. those plots are my own mix of reds..whts Clovers....sm burnett...chicory...trifiol and the long green one with out the deer also has alfalfa.... I have beans in this same area this year...soy beans.....
  8. off my front porch...one buck is this years
  9. we onloy take pics ...heres a few......
  10. no buck for me last year ...I past several 6pt in archery and had a dog run off an 8pt...took the doe in bow down at camp ...20yrds ..she dropped where I shot her The shot gun doe I took off new land at home ...100yrds using 3" Brenekes...20ga browning...it went in under her shoulder and split her heart...she went down hill less than 50 yrds ...
  11. I like mixing my plots several different separate things in the same area...buckwheat with braccs...beans then overseeding with braccs...same with winter trictical and braccs...or a combination like red& wht clovers mixed with chicory...sm burnett...alfalfa...trifoil... What do you do?
  12. The plots below are several years old and doing great!!!
  13. By the way this is the clover in this plot...I planted it in May
  14. my ground blinds save a couple are all natural...but to give you an Idea of how big...MrB . saw one I built near the house and said that's some log cabin you have there ....I make them in a G shape to make sure I have easy access yet can be seen ..one is just very long...here's pics of a couple of older ones...with boat seats and all the newer ones have the lawn chairs...then I have a commercial chair blind and a dog house pop up
  15. I brought it up when telling of the guys trying to shoot our goats from the bed of a pick truck with a compound... By the way I don't have to drag out the complaints to the DEC...state trooper...nor the sheriffs but there have been many not do I have to bring out the audio tape of a conversation I had with reg 8 after the DEC officer said and I quote " You don't want to be the land gustopol do you?...when the guys next door nearly shot me out of my 16ft tree stand on my land before the offical season opener time...but then again they didn't listen on another complaint where they nearly shot me when I said" they are going to kill some one you wait and see"...It took two years and they killed a guy in their own party...so don't tell me about just stories and nothing to back it up.... As far as that sad and tired "the antis are listening" hot air ...well let them listen and know that there are law abiding hunters out there willing to admit there are too many "slob" hunters and also willing to clean up such things and speak out about it when possible...I'd think they'd have respect for such hunters...even if the hunting community doesn't
  16. Thats a nay...as a kid I thought the plate were ugly...now they are worse ...just keep my old ones as long as possible
  17. Listen I'm going on the experience I've had here.... and let me tell you....stopping and trying to draw a bow on a deer in jacking situations is far harder than shouldering a rifle type stock with a scope and shooting a bolt....also shooting from a vehicle...then you put that with the "relative " silence factor...especially with trespassers...perhaps I live in the wrong area...and all the law abiding real hunters live else where in the state....ooops that can't be so...look at the # of poachers they caught in sting operations down state...I took my Rose colored glasses off a long time ago.... problem is ppl don't like it when someones willing to be vocal about whats really going on out there...gee the anti's might hear...well perhaps the hunting community should start cleaning up their house and stop turning a blind eye to this stuff...you all know one or two yahoos... as I call them... but more likely than not turn a blind eye
  18. So many reasons...First I got into bow hunting because of a guy we all call the "Great White Hunter"..you know the type...a legend in his own mind and lets everyone know it...to his credit he's manged to get a whole bunch of ppl into bow hunting...Telling ppl years ago that it takes a great hunter to bow hunt and on average 6 years to get a deer but he did it in one...then he'd drive his kill around and stop at every house to show off the "big" rack...ect..ect I let him drive me nuts for 2 years and then borrowed my Dad in-laws 50yr old Kodiak 45# recurve...got a new string...and shot off the shelf and instinctive...was afraid to shoot the first year and took this guy my 2nd yr...I was hooked...bought a Hoyt compound and have shot a buck every year since except last and took the doe pictured last year...since.... I know of 6 other ppl this guy has driven to bow hunt... But it is better deer sightings experiance ...can't say challenge because I see so many deer compared to gun....so far I haven't been nearly shot in bow season...safer..knock..knock..knock It's definatly turned me into a hunting nut!
  19. ladderstands are 15'...built stands are 16-23ft and when I climb its usually 20ft...I do have a 12' one in a wht pine and I have a 5' one that sit right on the edge of a steep hill side....to catch them walking the bottom headed toward a planted trail...feels like your 20' up...lol
  20. I have about 30 stands...but the older I get the more ground blinds I build...up to 12 blinds now....usually I have one or two blinds on the way to stand sights...just incase I spot deer between the two I can sneak in and sit...stand sites are set up in groups...100 -300ft apart to play the wind in certain areas
  21. Nice fasteddie....that looked like the Wadsworth estate house in the back ground...always good hunting and big buck out that way
  22. I use my voice not a call..well sometimes both at once ..voice and a sltae...but called in all kinds of hens so...that's not a problem...just knowing when and how long to be quiet is the challenge for me...I've called before and then waited an hour before the bird finally made it in
