  4. TF.... females have a natural tone to their voice...think about helping her to learn a natural voice call... Nothing to loose, but believe me a lot to gain...
  5. A while ago I did a spring prediction...as I sat here freezing I thought about it...mid 40's to night and tomorrow night low 40 forties. Just 62 in the sun here now. I looked it up....So far on track...
  6. The cold and storms have caused some fruit drop...the plums, first to flower got hit the hardest...just one tree has some fruit..The wet dank weather has blight hitting the wild apples and a couple of cultivated ones. Cherries did well pears just so so, kiwi?, berries great worried about grapes...peaches afraid to look...
  7. LOL some of the deer up here are about the size of a small Arabian since the farmers came in with their corn and beans... Before leasing to the dairy farmer the owner had an Appaloosa farm, now he's clergy
  8. Thanks for the tip...I will be puttin in a bigger area in the future... This fighting to get equipment ready has gotten old. Then there is the constant weather battle ...Hey they loved that hay field so I'll give them smaller versions of it to travel through.. probably strips in the lower bigger field..... clovers /hay/ beans(turnips)/hay ect ect....
  9. I'm sitting here eating an "Italian ice" ,so it says... and freezing in my living room, 60 here ...feeling very envious...Keep enjoying your self and snapping those pics for us less fortunate...Thanks
  10. I have a few small sections I want to try a hose pasture mix in..I am not buying 50#'s of seed to test. Dansville Agway is selling both horse and hay pasture seed by the pound. I chose the horse because it contained the timothy I was looking for but also Italian rye and wht. clover and trefoil. 16# per acre so I picked up a couple of #'s for a small area I'm tired of dealing with... It will have to handle spring standing water. I know timothy can handle it and maybe the clovers, trefoil will so we shall see... The deer absolutely loved the horse hay field that was here before the corn. I believe I will do all the road frontage in the tall horse/hay field stuff and one or two other spots. This not only for the deer as food and bedding but turkey poults to be raised in. I will add a few things of my own in it like red clover, maybe some vetches as well...I really miss it as well some great times watching the deer....
  11. If you haven't cruised their on line you might want to as well as Walmart...Walmart has a large selection on line and I know the have store pick up.
  12. Nothing wrong with that...I have a few I haven't sat in ...in years...but I know they'll be there if I want them...I have the x-mas gift one to put up...I can't figure out where I want it. I run cams year round ,just move them. Gives me an idea of what all animals ,including the local dogs are doing and yes trespassers thinking I'll just check things out off season, they'll never know...When the animals are here...like most of my yote sightings are late winter and spring. Skunk population is down and woodchucks have vacated our woods for the farmers hay field....Wild cat population is down ...fox way up...rabbits doing what rabbits do...ect,ect
  13. Baked cod, baked seasoned steak flies, cole slaw, hot rolls
  14. Tractor Supply has gotten way smarter over the years in carrying hunting supplies and they have a fair collection on line as well and I think do free store pick up if I recall?
  15. TF was that ground pine I saw in your picture? That is considered rare in NY, has a listing as protected and EV . which I don't know why but we have it too.
  16. Congrats guys nice birds great hunts.... I did as I said and it was a gorgeous morning...set out jake with new fan and feeder hen ...a billion crows all screaming overhead in the beech...must be their roost area as well. At 6a.m. I caught one fly down to my side but they went to the gully behind me. Then had deer running all over...next thing I know I hear baying coming up out of the gully on the neighbors place 3 doe run by and then a barrel of a yellow lab hot on them ...the baying is still coming out of the gully when a black and tan,so fat I thought it was a Burmese, appeared whining and howling..I was fit to be tied ..Up at 3:30 for this!...Well he was going to pass me so I lead him and shot the dirt about 10 ft in front of him...he didn't even break stride but it shut him up....Then they must have circled back around off us to the farmers field in the direction they came from and the hound had to have gotten something for he let loose like he had a coon treed out in the WW field...they were there for the next 45 mins...had to have been a fawn...they were too fat to catch the deer. So much for this hunt..I sat tight had a grey squirrel sit on my shoulder a bit...then a red climbed down my barrel to peek at me and run..greys ran around the oak above my head. Then a raccoon walked past and climbed the tree my wooden stand is in...but couldn't get past the platform edge climbed down and disappeared. Just a moment later on the other side of that tree I hear her come off the limb... A hen was directly in front of me and flew down dropping 20yrds to my front...It was 8am...over sleep much...lol between the dogs and my shot I'm surprised she dropped down at all...she hung out just a little bit then headed for her nest...hhhmmm direction that coon came from. I wasn't going to give up ...but no gobbling today and just faint hens ...Thought I heard a commotion down by opening day blind but the crows were just screaming today..actually as I type...they still are. The dogs finally left the neighbors field then woods and I heard them whining and barking back at their place the next road over and road down the hill...hoping I scared the one enough to stay clear of our place at least...I believe it's the people who's husband died hunting last fall...I'll let it go for now.. Oh well there is still fall and they'll be even fatter....It was rough and luck wasn't on my side though I had some fantastic hunts and good times... turkey...1 Chris....1
  17. Grilled marinated pork loin chops, mixed green salad, mashed potatoes, green beans.
  18. Actually Phade seeing you want to turn this into something nasty I will gladly answer that...I am sure they still have an e-mail I sent them but this gentle man was not the person I spoke to when I called them on that design. Since you mentioned that bad design...tight honey comb...I have yet to see any other cam manufacturers sporting that PARTICULAR design. Yes I am honest with each encounter that I have. I haven't a need to hold on to one bad experience thus limiting future ones. If that were the case I would have dumped this site long ago... PS glad you could once again respond to one of my posts in your usual fashion your consistent I'll say that
  19. Here's a good poem that is true...horse chestnut is what I call a popper...others say spitter...not so bad for a closed fire box I suppose...until you need to open the door to add more wood: Also this link, note huge tree with shallow root system: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aesculus_hippocastanum If the logs are kept a year; Store your beech for Christmastide With new-cut holly laid beside; Chestnut's only good, they say, If for years 'tis stored away; Birch and fir-wood burn too fast Blaze too bright and do not last; Flames from larch will shoot up high, Dangerously the sparks will fly; But ash-wood green and ash-wood brown Are fit for a Queen with a golden crown. Oaken logs, if dry and old, Keep away the winter's cold; Poplar gives a bitter smoke, Fills your eyes and makes you choke; Elm-wood burns like churchyard mould, E'en the very flames are cold; It is by the Irish said; Hawthorn bakes the sweetest bread, Apple-wood will scent the room, Pear-wood smells like flowers in bloom; But ash-wood wet and ash-wood dry A King may warm his slippers by.
  20. So much fun cleaning window screens
  21. Thanks Larry..points for being able to read that...though I do have a point about the damn cap locks...next to a vowel ....poor engineering
  22. db...looking like it won't be like last year... I do have peas coming along and the spinach looks great... few Brussels sprouts and cabbage that were direct seeded and of course the lettuce. Some swiss chard that over wintered...but like you rain rain rain has delayed everything...I was going to go buy plants today but they are on the opposite hill top and not going to be in a green house surrounded by metal poles in a storm...lol
  23. We're all good...though I do discriminate against that nasty nasty blue color...can you guess I have passed more than a few of them recently
  24. Ok I struck an unintentional nerve...I actually do know, my neighbors have them and they were all over where we lived when I was a kid...reason I could say they make great craft material. I didn't give a definitive answer because...There is none, as you JUST pointed out...it depends on the deer in your area and the available food sources that are at their disposal. This is why when you looked it up..you got conflicting answers. Again sorry https://www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/threads/advice-on-horse-chestnuts.326681/
