  1. I think the wind has little to no effect on deer movement. I use to think otherwise but have been noticing lots of movement on windy days. BTW, anything goes this time a year, you never know. The heat is what causes deer activity to dwindle to a snail's pace. Deer have no sweat glands so are unable to dissipate the heat and cool off. Get in the woods.

    Rut!

Yes sir. Thanks! Excited though, will be down with my Brother and Dad. I'll take a doe if gifted with a shot.
  3. I might have an opportunity to purchase Ford 640. Good tractors?
  4. Couldn't open video but interested.

If you follow Alsheimer, he says week leading up to gun will be the hottest. I tend to think this week coming up. I'll be at camp 6th-19th so I'm excited either way.
  6. Good broadheads, nothing wrong with them. The larger mechanical diameter cuts have failures too, for some reason we don't hear about them as much.
  7. Pap, wow, what a recovery. What a buck too! You should be very pleased with the shot, that's a nice shot! What broadheads are you using?
  8. You're asking us? You are the only one that knows. Maybe you just want to photograph and film them. If not, then you can have the best of both worlds, film and then harvest.
  9. I can do all day sits if I can avoid the discomfort from the cold. I use my cell phone to read this forum, have a thermos full of Tim Hortons or Starbucks dark roast coffee and I keep an arrow with a judo point if any tree rats start irritating me.
  10. Not a fun topic, but at least we are getting some real stories. Doewhacker, you're right, tracking is probably the most important aspect. Good point...
  11. I would definitely agree a lot tougher than we can imagine. I would have thought most died and the occasional deer survived. Truth is, we never hear about the ones that succumb, we always hear about the one that had a broadhead imbedded in the bone.
  12. I don't know how to start this topic. Every bow season, we all hear stories of a less than ideal shot placement. Regardless of the factors, it happens from time to time. Many of us, post our honest mishaps on these social sites. This allows us to live the experience through each other. I have been reading a lot of, " well, I didn't recover him but he'll probably survive." Although I'm not judging and love the optimism I just feel we (I) need clarification. I personally feel most deer will die from an arrow hit, even non vitals. I understand it happens but just how common. My Dad even shot one during gun that had a broken arrow shaft in it. Please, if you can shed any light please do so. I'm 35, I have taken about 30-40 deer, I never once noticed a previous shot deer. I've lost 5 and I never saw them again, camera or harvesting. Next time I see my processor, I'll ask him what he's found. Sorry for the long post, this is strictly for informational and educational purposes.
  13. I think the 7th-15th this year. I'm in hearing of more buck action, but mostly seeking. Chasing should be great in 10 more days!
  14. The buck in the pic has massive lung damage. When the lungs are fully inflated they actually go higher then the spine. If you hit that Mark, especially from treestand, I think you got both lungs. That's a great shot!

    Rut!

Increase scrapes are good. The crazy time is when their energy goes to looking for the does and disregard the scrapes. We are still a week out. Should be great very soon!
  16. It is early, so absolutely no reason to rush him... Minimally, 6 hours with Liver... Awesome and good luck!

    Rut!

I completely agree. Around the 7th-15th should be great!
  18. I believe that deer is dead. I'm thinking the arrow was broken or didn't pass through because you hit rib bone. How high in the tree were you?
  19. Hey bud! That's great blood! That's a dead deer, I'd say he died pretty quickly.
  20. He's a nice one. Yep biggest I've ever seen too.
  21. Now I'll be honest, I like Venison quite a bit. I like cow even more. This back strap was from my 3 year old buck. It was cut and wrapped beautifully. I then grilled to what I think is perfection. You absolutely cannot tell or taste any game. You might as well say I'm eating prime rib or ny strip. Some people just don't know what they're missing!
  22. Awesome buck! I love the height and curvature to that rack! P.S. If I had guns that big I might try a recurve too...
