  1. How much meat can you get off of them?
  2. He's within a 100, post pics.
  3. I guess you do, lol. I'm going to try them. Anything to worry about? Worms, parasite, etc?
  4. Ok, I'll check recipes out on the net.
  5. Cook it whole, after cut off head and legs?
  6. I might try squirrel hunting after deer season. Is it good meat? How to prepare and grill it?
  7. Sounds like a good shot. The deer is going to die that we know. I definitely wouldn't go in there now. If in fact the shot caught liver, that deer could live 8 hours. Where you describe the hit, the deer was dead within a minute. I'd wait, that buck will be within 100 yards, you won't need blood as ling as he wasn't pushed. Good luck!
  8. For the fellow hunters that can't buy a deer, I'm on the list. 10 hours in stand today and saw nothing. Yesterday 9 hours and a lone doe. It's going to turn around, I'm remaining optimistic.
  9. This sounds obvious and I'm not being condescending. See the deer before it sees you, this allows ample draw time.
  10. Mind is on the gutter, I like that too. But I actually meant his scent control, in his hunting clothes at a department store. I'm not nutty with scent control but definitely have standards. Mine are in duffel bags in the shed.
  11. Hey buddy, my camp is in Friendship. Been there 12 years. Lots of deer, not too steep. Great hunting.
  12. I don't know how to respond to this...first shot was not fatal. Eventually, meaning a month or two? Plus, more likely he'll die from an infection.
  13. This is getting too complicated. Whether you condone it or not. Whether you accept it or not. Fatal shot is simple = Deer expires because of tne shot, doesn't matter leg, gut, neck, heart, etc. You go back to camp after tracking a gut shot deer for 24 hours, someone asks is it fatal? Your answer should be yes, that's a dead deer. Unfortunate and painful for sure, but it's still Fatal 100% of the time...
  14. As I was reading, I kept thinking someday I will be in your shoes, hopefully not for a very long time. I'm very Sorry for your loss. Your story brought tears to my eyes. Hang in there my friend!
  15. Thermos full of coffee, sip it and make it last. It'll help raise core temp.
  16. Unfortunately , you are incorrect. Land owner has complete authority to grant or deny such request.
  17. They can't go onto a neighboring property unless permission is granted.
  18. I try not to tell people what to do. Since you've asked questions I'll give my two cents. One of the top rules: do not push a deer. If it's a good hit wait 2-3 hours, if it's a poor hit, wait a minimum if 6-8. Sometimes a liver takes 12 hours or more.
  19. IMO, that deer won't make it through February. It's sick and if not, just too thin.
  20. This is just too good! Melts in your mouth, no need to chew.
  21. Apple smoked Backstrap wrapped in bacon from my doe in early Oct. On the smoker as a write this.
  22. Because your Avg. Joe, you knew someone was going to say it, j/k. I tend to agree with you but he's asking for advice not ridicule. Most of us have done something less thasn stellar, let it go...
  23. Recovery might be tough. First off, let him go 10 or so hours. I'm assuming the deer is hit but not vitals. Track slowly and spend time trying to find the bolt first. 50 yards is a long way. If paunch shot you won't find blood. Let him expire and hope for a grid search recovery. Good luck!
