I grabbed a growler from Woodcock Brothers in Wilson NY Friday night to take to Saturday's shindig.......It was filled with their Amber Ale. I could have pounded it myself no sweat but I let the host have a couple small glasses.

I'm sure my friend would be happy to talk about it. I just texted him, I'll see what I can find out. I do know it's Winchester Model 70 action; he bought a great condition 300WSM stainless gun and tore it down. Kreiger barrel and 'smithed by Sid Goodling in Pennsylvania.

Ha........well played.

Well, if you're gonna do it.........a friend built a 35WSM and it is a shooting machine!!

Think long & hard about building a freaky big bore. The resale will be horrid.......... You'll probably tire of it after some time and then if you want to flip it to fund another urge, it'll be painful. I had a wildcat built a number of years ago and I don't regret it at all but I do know if I wanted to flip it, I'd get squat. My .223 ai is a great shooting gun and I know I could rebarrel it to any number of other chamberings as you could too, maybe. WSM sized actions are limited to what you can do with them. If you build, I wanna see it.

By chance my wife and I caught a couple neat sunsets this weekend. We had a pizza and a couple cold ones in Wilson at the Woodcock Brewery Friday night then a small get together at a friends place on Lake Erie at Sturgeon Point last night. Too much GREAT food and drink forced an unwanted bike ride this morning on the Clarence bike path. Sorry no pics of that, I looked like a circus act................. Wilson Pier......... Ed's yard.....

Bino Harness Recommendations
Lawdwaz replied to BKhunter's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
When Crooked Horn first came out with their system, I grabbed one. There may still be one in the cabinet but I've gravitated away from them. In warm weather I could see using a harness but during most of our hunting seasons I found them annoying. Between different jackets/bulk and ease of on/off during dressing up or taking a dump in the woods, most of the time they were just not worth it, IMO. I have found that the wider straps on the Swarovski and Leica binos seem to help disperse the weight very well and help to avoid stress on my neck...... Lately, the Leica Ultravid 8x32 bino strap seems to be a huge improvement over the Swarovski's strap due to a "dished out" or contouring of the back of the strap keeps things even more comfortable. Sometimes in the late season I'll swap out the wider type straps for a real skinny "traditional" type bino strap as the weight distribution of all the late season hunting clothes takes the stress of my neck. I want my binos close and fairly high on my chest when bow or gun hunting. Years ago when hunting with traditional gear I'd go with a longer strap and have the binos under my left armpit. When needed, I'd just slide them up and into position. When not needed they would just be down under my armpit and out of my way when stalking or shooting a recurve/longbow properly with the bow canted and a bit of a bend at the waist. -
They'd be rolling me out on a stretcher after THAT flight..................!! Sleeping in tomorrow Jay????????

Sorry to get back so late to this.......I just talked to my BIL, he said he bought the biggest slide hammer Harbor Freight had and then ADDED a 20 or 25 pound weight (dumb bell/barbell type) to the shaft and used THAT to pull the axle out. He said he had to really reef on the thing to get it out. After it came out, he then had to use a Dremel to get a groove cut in the seal/bearing and then beat it out with a chisel and hammer. I didn't pay enough attention to what he was saying but he alluded to replacing a couple cages (?) on each (?) axle along with the bearings which he took to a machine shop to be pressed on. Also, make sure you replace some kind of breather valve/vent that helps the rear end breath. He said if that is plugged (he's 100% sure that is what causes the seals to blow out) you'll just be doing the seal again, soon. One more thing......you really should do both sides at the same time as he said the other side is probably stressed for the above reasons. (the above was NOT checked for accuracy as I'm tired, overweight and need a beer)

BB guns (Crossman 760) then a Savage .22 for me. The first shotgun I used was either a Browning 12ga A5 or a Ithaca 16ga Model 37, neither was a problem for me or my siblings. WE didn't start with the shotguns until we were maybe 11 or 12 years old.........IIRC. Definitely not after that age, maybe a little earlier.

I've got some issues with my feet (yea, I know and other trouble too ) and am thinking of using mid height hiking boots for some of my hunting. The past couple years I've gone back and forth with all leather 8" hunting boots from Meindl, Danner and most recently Chippewa. I don't really know what the trouble is but I do wear prescription orthodic inserts and still have trouble. My feet are tired & sore at the end of the day when hunting, especially spring gobblers. I needed a new pair of hiking boots as my others are whipped. Their general use was for year round messing around and occasionally work. I thought about it and can't see why they wouldn't work great for all of the spring turkey I do unless I'm hunting a swampy area. I bought a pair of Keen Tagheel Mid TAC II at the local Cabela's and they fit great! I've been wearing them each day for the last two weeks and at the end of the day I'm almost fresh as a daisy.......... So now I'm thinking that a boot like them or another similar boot might work for lots of my hunting situations, except of course cold weather tree stand or still hunting. Do I need an 8" heavy leather lug sole boot?

Steve who? -
One guys opinion..... I mean heck, who doesn't have a 28ga or two stashed in the safe? Of course the ammo for a 28ga is available at any hardware store, gun shop or even Walmart. Grab a 20ga and some light loads and the kids will be just fine.........

How do you target a fisher when trapping?
-
Wow......If I COULD see it, I'd say it is a beauty of a gun! I can ONLY imagine the joy someone will find in owning a real piece of work like that. I'm going on my wife's Ipad and take a look when she gets home and unlocks her safe......... Good luck with sale!

That's pretty cool!

I saw your note on pictures coming but just wanted to bust balls and keep your post up and noticeable for all prospective buyers. You home yet?

Got any pics?

Nahhh, just a little late getting to the kill after digging the camera out of the truck. The long drag (75 yards) made me really appreciate the cold beer back in camp.
