  1. Looks good.....is that the Black Ice I see glistening or just the flash of the camera?
  2. My sincerest condolences to you and your family, may your wife rest in peace. From my heart..........
  3. After using Slick Tricks for the quite a few years now, I'll be hunting with the Viper Tricks this fall. I had a little doubt in my head after I killed a big bodied buck last fall and didn't get a complete pass through. Yes, the arrow left two holes but didn't exit completely. After reading up on the Viper Tricks and their tremendous record of penetration and strength, I figured I'd give them a shake. Report to follow..........
  4. Bolt action lightweight NON wood stocked sexy bastids. I had a 760 pump gun in the early 80's, lefty to boot. I only used it for a couple years before I pawned it for a 270 Remington Model 700. Yup, lefty too. That went down the road when I scrapped up the coin for a Model 700 LH KS 280 in 1993 IIRC. That was my go-to rifle for a bunch of years until I took a shining on the ULA/NULA guns. Love me some rifles.......
  5. Yes Bob, you CAN! What a wonderful world we live in.
  6. Good deal, hang a pic sometime!
  7. If I can't rest on SOMETHING; like an elbow, branch, tree or even the smallest sapling, I'm not shooting. Oh I guess I need to say that if by chance I have a wounded animal or jump something at spitball range then I'll pop a cap but 99% of the time I'm looking for any rest I can find.
  8. Worthy of a bump to the top........................
  9. Looks great! Love the pics, especially the creek. I think your little lady is going to have a fine season! Remember, the .223 Tikka is ready to rock if she has doubts on that 20ga. Say the word.........
  10. Good to see the usual suspects are still reloading and some new guys chiming in. Last week I rolled some more 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tips for the 7mm-08. 44 grains of RL15 makes for a great shooting load. I only have a dozen loaded cases for my 243 so they'll be made in the next few weeks. I like the 80 grain Barnes TTSX behind 45 grains of H4350. Super fast at around 3100fps and very accurate. My 260 Remington needs some rounds loaded too so I'll use 44 grains of H4350 to propel the 123 grain Hornady AMax bullets. I've never killed with the 260 but have with both of the other guns in the listed loads. Until just a few years ago my rifle hunting for deer was restricted to the state of Pennsylvania. When the fine people in charge here in New York FINALLY figured out that hunting with centerfire rifles was the right thing to allow us crazy bastards in the western end of the state to use, I rejoiced. I still have to pinch myself when I think about it; RIFLES in WNY? Wow..............I'd have bet all the tea in China that would never be legal.
  11. Things are unraveling.........
  12. It took you knuckle heads long enough to find this post... Seriously, I forgot I posted the question and now I have to hit the sack. I'll be back....................
  13. I guess this could go in a couple other sub forums but I planted it here. Mods move at your whim......... For those that reload for their deer hunting, what is your bullet of choice? Specifically; caliber, chambering, weight, powder etc. Have you killed many deer with it and have you had failures you'd blame on that bullet? I'm bored and thought I'd fire thing up in light of the approx. 90 days until gun season opens.
  14. I've never been there before. I sometimes confuse them with A&K gun store in Corfu........... The fellow in Corfu lives in Attica, I think. He used to be a Snap On dealer that had a good reputation in our area. I go through Varysburg once in a while but have never seen the shop or signs. Have you been there Paula??
  15. Dang........I've been using Screaming Eagle stands for 25 years or more. I only have 5-6 of them and haven't had an issue. My good friend bought one in the late 80's and he and another friend (lousy welders) built 30+ copies from that one Screaming Eagle. The fellow that spearheaded the building of those stands (now 79 years old) only puts up 10-12 a year in his most productive spot these days. Just a couple years ago he'd put up and hunt from 14-16 each fall. In his newest spots he'd be swapping them out once or twice a season if an area didn't pan out. I don't know anyone or haven't known anyone in the 30 years we've been good friend that hunts archery hunts more than him. Mornings/evenings; bow season/gun season and late season. Needless to say, I still trust my stands. As always, YMMV.
  16. You're right, it doesn't pass the smell test............something doesn't add up.
  17. My uncle rode his Baker to the ground one day..............no worse for wear, a couple weeks later he climbed up a tree. He was gripped with fear when it was time to come down. A ladder was brought to the "scene" and he climbed down via the Werner. As God is my witness and as far as I know, that stand is STILL in the tree, just off Schwartz Rd in Naples. It is at a VERY awkward angle after all the years of growth on the tree and completely UN-useable by anything other than a squirrel, chipmunk, coon etc. Back in the early 80's my first "hang on" stand was a Loc On brand. Not too shabby but I sure as balls wouldn't trust it anymore.......
  18. Lima? Things have always been a little off in Lima..............
  19. I misspoke, we went to Russell's Steak House instead. The place is just outstanding............... We had quite a day. One to remember for a long time! Paid for the first semester at UB, assisted our daughter in buying her first and topped it off with dinner. Thanks to all for the birthday wishes!
  20. That's very common now. Somewhere I have a few snap shots of a fawn with two lines of spots down it's back during archery season........
  21. Ol' Hawk-eye Shawnu would have busted my onions BIG time on that....... Do you hear from him at all? Wonder how his fishing is going?
  22. Really Elmo? If old Shawnu seems that grammar you'll be in a HEAP of trouble.
  23. Thanks Eddie! Most members here probably don't know me by my street name as I'm kind of a shy person by nature. Fortunately I have broad (but weak) shoulders and can shoulder the bonus greeting.
  24. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! I'm off work today and have a number of things planned, almost all involve spending money. No worries, we got a pretty good dump of rain so far and I'll spend the day with my wife then we're going to Salvatore's for chow tonight. Yesterday at work they showered me with gifts; a 6 pack of Southern Tier Beer and a little chocolate cake. Dessert for breakfast is OK, I'll hold off on the beer 'till after lunch.
