6" here. Not sure on the snow though..................

I called a close friend of mine last Sunday afternoon, he lives in Colorado and we haven't talked a in few months. He had some real bad news........his brother in law (who lives in Boston MA and is married to his sister) was walking out of work and slipped and fell on the ice earlier that same day. Apparently he broke two vertebra in his neck; suffering severe spinal damage and went into cardiac arrest. When we talked after I had called him he said that Mark was in a "halo" and on a ventilator, complete life support. After looking closer they determined he had no brain function and was a quadriplegic. The decision to release him to the Lord was made Tuesday afternoon and he lasted 5 minutes after being taken off life support............ I'm not sure of his age but I'm thinking 55-58 and is survived by his wife and two children. What a horrible and tragic thing. I just got a text from my buddy, he and his wife just got into Boston from Denver, even with the horrid weather. Good thing as the family will need their support.

That's cool growie. Have you used it to your advantage when hunting?

The wonders of the internet, thanks to Al Gore....... I Googled Jim Kassman & Jim's Sport Shop and found that it's been 20 years since he passed away. Damn..... "James F. Kassman, 66, who operated Jim's Sport Shop in Clarence, died Sunday (Feb. 25, 1996) at Mitchell Campus of Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a brief illness. The Hamburg native graduated from Hamburg High School in 1948 and had lived in West Seneca for 30 years. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. An avid fisherman and hunter, he provided financial and program support for several area sports groups, including the Northtowns and Southtowns Walleye Associations, the Lake Ontario Fishing Association and the annual Pepsi Challenge Fishing Tournament on Lake Erie." It's funny what you remember about a person or place from your past. Jim enjoyed smoking a pipe and quite often he'd be burning some Borkum Riff and BS'ing with a customer when I'd walk in. Like I mentioned, he was one of the first around the area to rent hunting videos. Boy there was some great early ones and some real crap too!! $3 a night I think it was....WELL before all the Hunting shows on TV now. It was ground breaking stuff back then. Jim wasn't too much of a hunter as I remember. Seems he wanted to hear about all my hunts when I went in....at one point he sent a picture of me and a pretty big buck into whatever was the state wide equivalent of the NYOutdoors News we have now. Another thing I recall about Jim's shop was that he had a tannery that he worked with that would take salted raw deer hides in and make garments from them of your choosing. I sent a number of hides in and about all I have left are one or two pairs of fleece lined buckskin choppers. I still have two tanned hides (no hair) from back in the day, one gun and one bow. The bow one is cool because I used a Razorbak5 head to kill the buck and you can see the entrance/exit holes in the hide still. Those had to have been tanned almost 30 years ago. Man does time fly........... OP.......sorry to derail/sidetrack this thread. Once I get wound up, I can't stop.

I completely forgot about Cap's being there because BEFORE that, they were at Harlem & Sheridan. AND, IIRC (and I sure as balls could be wrong) weren't they on Niagara Falls Blvd too at some point? Different owners also along the line........
-
Sheridan and Harris Hill was "Jim's Sport Shop", I knew him well. He was one of the first guys around here that offered hunting videos for rent. Fond memories of the man..... I didn't know Leo Baldwin as well but certainly shopped and shot there on occasion. Who was it that bought it after Leo died, Mary and some fellow I don't recall his name though??

Who's the shipping manager for this project ?

Dang, I need a box just like that for something I'm selling on EBay. -
I'll guess Japan. Just a guess.....

I agree, my 20ga Benelli has a 26" barrel and it is a shear delight to shoot!
-
Killed my first pheasant with a Light Twelve........great gun but it wasn't my favorite, I liked pump guns better then. Benelli semi autos have been my pick for the last 16 years.

I've said it once and I'll say it again.................I hate (I hate the word hate) snakes. My ignorance shines again.
-
Enjoy the night!
-
It was either the basket weave or the RIBBED forend of the older style. The ribbed was much more enjoyable to the hand and easier to pump............................................ >>TROUBLED<<

Where'd you score that meal?
-
Good score! I've had a couple 760's, one RH 300 Savage that was from the 50's and the other one was LH .308. I wish I still had that one but doubt I'd hunt it much as it isn't my cup O tea anymore. Before anyone squawks, the lefty had a left hand cheek piece and safety all from the factory in a BDL finish and basket-weave stock/forend. Twas a nice piece..................

You're welcome. What's the second part mean? (I know, darn Kindle) -
Rifle Caliber- Which would you choose?
Lawdwaz replied to pitweiler's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
For deer in NYS you could toss a ball cap over the 243, 260, 7mm-08 and 308, not a bad choice in the bunch! I like them all and own 3/4 but have only killed with the 243 and 7mm-08. So far............. -
That ALMOST sounds like an invite??????
-
That's neat. Quite a diverse state we have here!
-
Private or public land? Rifle or shotgun? Past success? You live close by? Any plans for adopting of nice fellow from WNY?
-
Ha, just what I was thinking!
-
Beautiful! Wow, deer hunting right around there? Tell me more............
-
And for a bit of a comparison, I snapped a picture of the subject buck and a (as told to me by the DEC in Avon) 5.5 yo buck from 2009 in Naples................
-
OK, here we go........ I haven't cut the jaw up yet like I usually do. When you see a white background that's just a piece of paper I put behind for the picture.
